Dayco Bungalow Hotel - Adrasan

Do you want to escape the package-tour massive concrete all-inclusives? It is still possible in the small beach-side village of Adrasan just to the South of the ancient ruins of Olympos City in the Antalya region of Turkey. This coast must be one of the most beautiful regions in the Mediterranean and Adrasan is one of the best small resorts for your vacation with a super bay and beach surrounded by pine forested mountains and no huge hotels.

Dayco Hotel is different. Not a large concrete block of rooms but individual detached timber chalet cabin bungalows surrounding a small garden and on the seafront. Here you can relax and enjoy your holiday in a quiet peaceful setting. Chill out on the small restaurant bar veranda viewing great mountain and sea scenery and enjoy the company of passers-by popping in for a quick chat.

Dayco Bungalows are well established since the early 1990's and the accommodation is continually upgraded to a good quality with thermal insulation, air-conditioning, hot powerful showers and w.c. all included. A water-main brings good quality water from an inland city supply.

Stunning Adrasan Cavus-Bay (Çavuşköy) is a paradise for nature lovers attracting walking and hiking enthusiasts in the cooler months and families enjoying laid-back fun holidays in the summer without the hectic over-organised activities of larger resorts. A destination for relaxing - not a place for busy night-life.

Hüseyin views his Bungalow Hotel – DAYCO – from the summit of Moses Mountain

In the main season May though October you can enjoy a full day boat trip with one of the local Kaptans visiting natural uninhabited coves, beaches and islands. A freshly cooked lunch of either fish or chicken is included together with afternoon Turkish tea and fresh watermelon when in season. Also a bar on-board if you need a beer!

Other attractions include smaller boats taking around 4 holidaymakers for private trips or fishing trips, canoe and pedalo hire, an excellent PADI dive school, tandem paragliding from the mountain behind Adrasan bay with well established professional company 'Kemer Paragliding'. In the heat of the day a relaxing lunch can be taken at a selection of restaurants on seating platforms set in a cooling river surrounded by ducks, geese, terrapins and occasionally a passing kingfisher. Along the coast are the historical sites of Olympos and Phaselis and there is even a cable car ride to the top of Tahtali Dag Mountain where on a clear day you can view the coastline for many miles.

Adrasan is to some extent off the 'beaten track' but well worth the extra effort to get here especially if you want to get away for a complete change! Even if you do not stay at Dayco Bungalow Hotel you are welcome to call in and relax in the bar restaurant and pass the time of day with the owner Hüseyin who speaks good english.

Private airport transfer from Antalya can be arranged and typically takes 1 hour 45 minutes by road mostly along the coastal highway through fantastic mountain scenary. This transfer cost is £50-£70 per vehicle (depending on party size and exchange rate) and is best arranged for you by Dayco Hotel. The driver will meet you at the Arrivals Door of Antalya Airport and display a name-sign. It is necessary to know which Terminal - normally Thomas Cook land at Terminal 1 and Thomson at Terminal 2. Internal flights in Turkey use the Domestic Terminal. During daylight hours a frequent bus service operates from all airport terminals to Antalya City Bus Station (Otogar) - this is Service 600 and can be found outside the Departures Entrance of Terminal 2 and the Domestic Terminal. Very frequent service coaches link Antalya Bus Station (Otogar) and also from Kaş to the Adrasan junction on the coastal highway but local minibus connections to Adrasan are only available in the summer season approximately every hour during daytime. Bus travel in Turkey is inexpensive but expect to more than double the time taken compared to a private transfer.

The peak summer months of July/August are usually very busy for all hotels so book a bungalow well in advance. If you prefer come in the milder seasons of May/June and September/October.The weather is good and sea warm.

Walking and Trekking around AdrasanLocal seaside and hill track walking plus longer coastal trekking along the famous waymarked

Lycian Way hiking route are popular early or late in the year, even in March April and November.During the holiday season of May-October when daily boat tours are operating

it is often possible to arrange a one-way transfer to, for example, Sazak Bay to combine with one-way walking - 3hr trek to/from Sazak.

Hüseyin the owner of Dayco is licensed to guide walks and treks. If you are new to the area and would like an introduction to the local tracks or the more demanding treks

along the Lycian Way Route between Olympos - Adrasan - Gelidonya Point then guided walking is possible in the less busy Springtime and Autumn months. At these times of year a one-way vehicle

transfer is a good idea to save covering the same ground twice and also the longer Lycian Way treks can take up to around 6 hours. Exploring in this way by using Adrasan as a base is more convenient and

comfortable than carrying large heavy backpacks from one town to the next.

Adrasan Walking Guide

Adrasan - a great holiday location for scenic local walking and as a base for trekking the 'Lycian Way'

Walking Trekking around Adrasan - Antalya Türkiye

Walking Trekking guide for Adrasan (also known as Çavuşköy Cavus-Bay)

NORTH COVE and on to SAZAK BAYThe walking route to "North Cove" (see map) is

started at the very North end of Adrasan Cavus-Bay beach (North side of the river) by following the rising rough road passing Felix Bar climbing immediately

above/behind the river hotels and restaurants. If the river is in flood use the road bridge adjacent

'River Hotel'. Walk along this rough road back towards the beach

before meeting the rising road from Felix Bar.This rising road soon meets the Sazak Bay rough

road heading back towards the coastline but higher.

After about 15 minutes walking along the Sazak Bay rough road a narrower track heads down to

Adrasan North Cove - KARGICAK Halfway down this track peters out at the head of a dried river gulley near a disused mine entrance.

Look out for well trodden tracks sometimes waymarked with stones either side of the gulley

down to the cove beach.

Kargıcak

Back on the Sazak Bay rough road the route continues to :

SAZAK BAY(Length: Trekking from Adrasan Bay takes about three hours each way at a reasonable pace so take supplies with you. Also it is probably too hot to take from June thro' Sept'.)For Sazak just keep following the rough road ignoring the minor tracks that branch off. About half way along the North side of Adrasan Bay the road heads inland and crosses

over the peninsular through a disused meadow area then heads down to Sazak alongside a river (bed). From the east end of Sazak Bay are said to be tracks across to

SHEPHERD'S BAY - ÇOBAN LİMAN where there are overgrown ancient ruins. Rather than go to Sazak there is a branch in the rough road just before the 'meadow

area' that doubles back towards the DIVE CAVES . The easterly branch reaches a rocky headland and Water Island - SULU ADA is seen in the distance.

The westerly branch heads towards a cove AKSEKİ BAYADRASAN SOUTH COVE

Walk along the rough road from Hotel Ford around the headland for about 10 minutes and there is a small cove near the fishing boat moorings. The beach is small stones but

once in the sea the sea bed is soft silvery sand often with many small fish. From here, walking 1 hour each way, the route starts to the:

ADRASAN BAY LIGHT BEACON There is a narrow walking track through the woods to the light beacon at the southeast corner of Adrasan Bay but most people fail to find it because they try to get there from

the end of the rough road above where the small fishing boats are moored. The trick is to start above the corner of the cove before the moorings - climb three

metres up the dry river bed and walk the track running along the "cliff" above the road. MINE HILL TRACK

Length: 1.5 hours walk to the hilltop.Once again follow the rough road from the Ford Hotel and you will soon see the start of a track that doubles

back above/behind the Ford and other hotels. This old mine 'donkey' track winds its way to the top of the hill for a view of the open sea. At the top follow the track to the right for an extra 45 minutes or so where it

suddenly stops at a mound of rock. Then work carefully along the hillside for 50metres for a great

view of 'Water Island' - Suluada.Alternatively head left for a similar time to reach the disused mine workings and view across the outer entrance to Adrasan Cavus-Bay towards Kemer and 'Three Islands'.

FARM Length: One hour walk each way.Start walking inland from Paraşüt Market up the valley

passing Cengis Kaan & Osmanlı Sarayı Hotels eventually joining the rough road that started at Blue

Bay Pansiyon and the Boat Trip Jetty. This road which passes Hotel Maviay is part of the Lycian Way Trekking Route and

climbs to follow a ridge between two valleys. Farm not in use. The Lycian Way runs through the farm and continues up the hill to view the sea in 1hr then on to Kara Öz for views of Gelidonya Lighthouse and '5 Islands' - 6 hrs trekking.

HILL MEADOW WITH VIEW OF ADRASAN VILLAGEA very pleasant walk along a mostly easy going well trodden track up to a plateau with a view of the whole of Adrasan village and the hills behind in the Kumluca direction (about 1.5hrs walking from Adrasan Bay). Follow the red&white

waymarked 'Lycian Way' trekking route (Adrasan to Olympos section) - signposted just up river from Gelidonya Hotel / Arykanda & Paradise Hotels (at North end of the bay) - until some greenhouses and then cross over - may be stepping

stones. At right angles to the river a road then runs between greenhouses - then the only tricky bit - cross the field alongside the last greenhouse and step over a narrow mountain stream to find the path up to the meadow plateau

alongside the mountain stream (field & crossing not well marked). Once there just a friendly shepherd with inquisitive sheep and a cow or two! Return the same direction but stay on the North side of the greenhouse area using the new anti-

fire dirt road or for longer route take the first left hand track from the meadow dropping down to the river and follow the roads back alongside the river. Cross the bridge near a small cemetary or further on at stepping stones (~2hrs to the bay).

MOSES MOUNTAIN TRACK - Müsa Dağ Rather than returning from the meadow it is possible to continue along the Lycian Way Trekking Route to Olympos or

alternatively follow the new fire-break rough road that doubles back and climbs almost to the summit of Moses Mountain - Müsa Dağ. The mountain dominates the North side of Adrasan Bay. Plan for a full days trekking.

ADRASAN VILLAGE Length: One and a half hours each way inland walk. Try excellent chicken kebab

(or soup for a late breakfast) at a fast food restaurant - lokanta.Starting from the centre of Adrasan Bay take the inland road (Atıcı Hotel) or alternatively from the North end of the Bay take the road passing the river

restaurants. Many tomato greenhouses on each route. The first route passes a small mosque about half way and the remains of a castle on the left above the road.

Both ways lead to Adrasan Village Sunday Travelling Market.

From the market, carry on over the river bridge towards

Adrasan Village.

Adrasan Village has mosque, tailor, doctor, pharmacy, barber, hardware

store, Jandarma, fast food, Post Office, mini markets, patisserie, tea

rooms but no longer an ATM

A short walk up the road past the woodyard and lokantas is

the desirable hill area to buy a property.

...........Further afield but not too far from Adrasan...........PHASELIS

Take the morning Adrasan dolmuş to the Antalya highway (terminates here at the new Adrasan junction) and change to a Kaş-Antalya dolmuş getting off at the start of Çamyuva

town area on the main road (Çamyuva Town sign). Walk back along the main road until the river and then follow river track down to the coast - then around the headlands and

coves into Phaselis. The route is waymarked (part of the Lycian Way). There's plenty to see -- the marble avenue, amphitheatre and aquaduct, plus

superb beaches and ancient small harbour. It is a protected area so no hotels/bars/restaurants only a snack kiosk.

To return, take the Phaselis entrance/exit road back up to the main road and make the return journey - Important : hourly Adrasan dolmuş to Bay only runs in summer season

and is not always reliable. Sometimes a taxi waits at the Adrasan Junction for hire. Passing car drivers often offer a lift if no other transport is available.

ULUPINARFor Ulupinar : From the new Antalya Highway-Adrasan junction take the Kaş-Antalya

dolmuş minibus (as above for Phaselis) passing the Antalya Highway-Olympos junction (was also the old Adrasan junction) and on to the junction for Ulupinar then walk down to

the river restaurants for a good value amazing oven baked trout meal. CHIMEARA - YANARTAŞ

This is one for night time - something not to be missed - 'FIRE MOUNTAIN' and best done by taking a taxi or hotel trip.

Again on the trekking route of the Lycian Way not far from Ulupinar and is now slightly commercialised with a constructed path of stone steps to reach the natural gas flames emerging from the

rocks. Take a torch and some flat shoes with non slip soles and be prepared for many steps! Don't stay too long as there seems to be

quite a lot of partly combusted gas fumes.

Adrasan Walking - Lycian Way Trekking

Rest and relax in the eveningto prepare for your next day

Adrasan - Dayco Bungalow Hotel - Çavuş Bayis open from March into November.

In a quiet location on the seafront just a few metres from the beach.

Dayco - 12 detached timber chalet bungalows with en-suite shower/w.c. set around a small garden.

The best months for walking/trekking are early and late season when the rural holiday resort of Adrasan is usually very quiet with only a few tourists. This all changes during July to early September when it becomes very busy especially at weekends.

The local walks around Adrasan are not demanding and with a little local knowledge are fairly straightforward to find. If the region is new to you it is possible for Hüseyin at Dayco to provide guided walks in the springtime and autumn months.

An introduction to the more demanding Lycian Way coastal trekking route is also possible but restricted to approximately 7 hours walking duration from Adrasan - to Olympos to the North and Gelidonya Point (Kara Öz) to the South. Return transport.
