IN AN UNPREDICTABLE WORLD…ADRE STANDS READY

Thailand will proudly host the first ever ASIAN DISASTER RISK REDUCTION EXPO in 2014 (ADRE 2014). The unique exhibition featuring Expo, Conference and Networking Event, is themed, ‘Reducing the impact of disaster’- what we need more than ever in an increasingly dangerous world. The show will be held at the IMPACT exhibition Center in Bangkok from 4-7 November. And it couldn’t come at a better time –Asian governments are currently investing billions of dollars in disaster risk reduction programs as a result of major catastrophes that have impacted the region in recent years.

ADRE is a unique platform for showcasing rescue and disaster management products and services. It will also highlight the importance of disaster prevention equipment and manufacturers from Asia and around the world will be at the big four- day event.

ADRE will be co-Located with The International Security & Safety Expo & Forum 2014 (ISF 2014) - Asia’s No. 1 Integrated Security and Technology Event. Industry representatives from sectors such as aviation, engineering, fire protection, and logistics will be present along with thousands of private, government officials and industry leaders. Because of the intimate nature of the event they will be ready to discuss preventative measures in person and provide expert advice on the latest technology designed to prevent and reduce the impact of events that are all too inevitable.

MULTIPLE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN ASEANThe past two years have been challenging ones for the Asia-Pacific region. The Great East Japan earthquake resulted in a devastating tsunami and Southeast Asian floods severely affected the ASEAN region. Thailand, suffered a staggering $294 billion loss that amounted to 80 per cent of disaster costs for the year. However, there have been positive efforts to improve previous approaches. For example, the amount of DRR investment by the Government of Indonesia has grown from less than 0.6 of their total budget in 2006 to more than 1 per cent in 2012.

The economic cost and consequences of Thailand’s recent floods, with total losses of THB 1.43 trillion ($46.5 billion) resulted in physical damage totaling THB 630.3 billion ($20.5 billion. And additional losses in associated economic activities has been estimated at THB 795 billion ($26 billion).

The Thai Government is now planning to spend over $11.5 billion to develop new water-resource management systems and flood prevention measures.
