ADSORBER DIVISION

Adsorber Division is a core business of Watch Water®.One of the largest specialty Water Treatment companies, as it focusses strongly on Filtration and Adsorber products.

These include Katalox- Light, Crystolite, Zeosorb, Catalytic Carbon, Titansorb, Ferrolox, TRAPPSORB and among others.

*Eight equivalent of sodium chloride (NaCl) toremove one equivalent nitrate from resin*Relatively large waste volumes, which are verydifficult to dispose. “Spent brine from watersofteners and nitrate removal systems cannotbe disposed to waste water plants in the future.”Reverse Osmosis with nitrates will absolutely beforbidden in the future. What then…..?NITROTRAPP

NITROTRAPP differs from all other nitrateremoval systems in the market in severalaspects. The custom designed adsorber removesnot only nitrates from drinking water, but alsoprovides healthy bicarbonates. “This can’t beachieved simply by any other media, which arebased on Ion Exchange or Reverse Osmosis.”Anion exchange for nitrate removal is similar to awater softener, where relatively large amount ofsodium chloride are typically used as follow’s.

The only method of purifying any watercontaining Nitrates.

1. Passing the water through Adsorber inpacked bed vessel to TRAPP NITRATES onAdsorber in down flow direction.

2. Periodically regenerating the Adsorber bypassing a volume of a very harmless brinesolution through the Adsorber in oppositedirection to release TRAPPED Nitrates intothe valuable Fertilizer solution.

3. Rinsing the Adsorber of residual with de-adsorb solution by passing five bed volumesof clean water through the Adsorber. Therinse water is either feed water or purifiedfeed water without nitrates.

4. And now this feed water can be; groundwater, surface water, agriculture fielddrainage, process feed water for food +beverage, process waste water, water fromaquarium’s or fish farms. The concentrationof Nitrates in the feed water can be up to1000 mg/l or ppm. The concentration ofNitrates in the feed water is reduced to99% or more. The waste water is 100%commercial fertilizer.

In the Nitrification process bacteria degradenitrogen-containing compounds and releaseammonia. Some bacteria such as Nitrosomonascan oxidize the released ammonia to nitrite andother bacteria such as Nitrobacteria furtheroxidize the nitrite to nitrate.

Significant sources of Nitrate in water includenitrate-based chemical fertilizers decayingvegetable and animal and human waste, domesticefficient (sewage sludge disposal and industrialdischarge) atmosphere washout, septicsystems, pesticides and waste contaminationthrough storm and urban runoff of thesesynthetic fertilizers are the major contributionto water contamination. All these products canbe converted to Nitrate through a series ofbacterial reactions collectively known asNitrification.

Introduction

Many different parts of the world have beenfacing the problem of Nitrate contaminatedsurface and ground waters. Half of the worldpopulation that is three billion people, including500000 infants are consuming drinking waterwith Nitrate concentrations over the MaximumContaminant Level (MCL) of the 10 mg NO3-/L

has been tested and Certified to NSF/ANSI-61 Standard.

Nitrate Health IssuesNitrate is one of the most common groundwatercontaminants in rural areas. It is regulated indrinking water primarily because excess levelscan cause methemoglobinemia, or "blue babysyndrome" disease. in which blood lacks theability to carry sufficient oxygen to the individualbody cells causing the veins and skin to appearblue. Nitrate do indicate the possible presence ofother more serious residential or agriculturalcontaminants, such as bacteria or pesticides.

Cancer. Nitrate is converted to nitrite afteringestion, This nitrite reacts with both naturaland synthetic organic compounds to produce N-Nitroso compounds in the human stomach. Manyof these N-Nitroso compounds are carcinogenicin humans with high nitrate levels in drinkingwater may increase cancer risks.

Page 4: ADSORBER DIVISION - Watch-Water · Adsorber division of Watch Water has developed the NITROTRAPP adsorber and Deadsorber to remove nitrates from water and waste water. Nitrate is

media is Bead-like-Material thattraps Nitrate ions from liquid and water.Nitrotrapp is a deadsorable or in other words areversible process in which Nitrate ions frominsoluble permanent solid medium are exchangefor healthy ions. Nitrotrapp beads are based onvery selective chemical and physical properties ofboth beads and ions. However, Nitrotrapp withhigher selectivity for Nitrate and none of theother competitive ions like sulfate, silicates, phosphate or bicarbonates. Nitrotrapp beadsare selectively manufactured in chloride form butcan be regenerated with following available salts

should be rinsed before service.Rinsing time 10 minutes Transfer the Nitrotrapp into the pressure vessel.

Add sufficient water to cover the Nitrotrappbeads by 2-5 inches (5 to 10 cm) allow the waterto stand for 10 minutes.

Go to backwash cycle and allow the Nitrotrapp towash for 5 minutes.

After backwash the Nitrotrapp go for last rinsefor approximately 5 minutes to remove anyresiduals.

has been introduced by WatchWater Germany as a Nitrate Removal Technologyand approved as a best available Technology BATfor Nitrate Removal from drinking water. It is notregenerated by sodium chloride there is no needof waste water treatment plant. Total annualcosts operation, maintenance and salt of theWatch Water-Nitrotrapp system’s is calculatedto be 18.5 US cents per 1000 gallons ofdrinking water. Rejected Nitrate afterregeneration can be sold as fertilizer for 0.50cents per Gallon of Magnesium or PotassiumNitrate of nearby farmers or gardens. WatchWater has built several fully automated systemswith magnesium chloride regeneration for wellhead treatment of Nitrate contaminated wells inthe world. Complete systems are constructed ina standard 20 feet or 40 feet container and canbe delivered to the client side. All projects arecustomer proprietary and such not referenced. Inall sites, nitrate concentrations exceeded theMCL and are now being treated to acceptablelevels. The waste produced by these systems in arange of 0.1-0.2% which is quite low and valuablefor Agriculture Horticulture.
