Advanced AutoCAD focuses on the processes used in Landscape Architecture firms to document as-built sites, including the creation of site plans, grading and layout plans, details for hardscape installations, and records of planting and irrigation design. Industry protocols for labeling and clarifying designs for construction is a strong focus of the course. Students will learn these skills through creating a document set for an existing courtyard located on campus. We will use 2D AutoCAD as the primary software as well as LandFX, an AutoCAD-integrated software. This course is designed to support the technical skills required by the Tech Studio, but is open to any Landscape Architecture student with basic CAD knowledge (Intro to CAD or with instructor approval) who wants to hone skills for the professional work environment. Since AutoCAD is the dominant drafting software in the industry, this expertise will be highly valuable in professional practice. Class time will be split between lesson time and lab/work time, and attendance and participation form a substantial part of class grade. Students will be required to use their personal computers, with AutoCAD or F-X CAD and Land FX software installed on a PC or partitioned Mac on the Windows platform. AutoCAD for Mac will not be taught in this course.
