USING THE GUIDE
The guide can provide you with infor-mation about the current program
as well as upcoming programs. Thecontent and accuracy of the guide isentirely dependent on the broadcasteror cable company.
1 Press the GUIDE button toopen the Guide window. If thebroadcaster or cable companyis providing it, informationabout the current program andprograms throughout the dayare displayed.
2 Use the CURSOR LEFT orRIGHT button to select a time.The program name, time,inforamtion, as well as signaltype are displayed.

USING SURF
After you set up a list of yourfavorite signal sources in the SURF
list, you can press the SURF button tosee the list and quickly tune to afavorite signal source. Place up to 10signal sources in the SURF list.
1 Once you are viewing thechannel you want to add tothe surf list, press the SURFbutton. The Surf list boxappears. The number of thecurrent channel is shown withADD? to the right. Press theCURSOR RIGHT button toadd the channel to the Surflist. The text should switchfrom “add?” to “delete?” Thetext gives the next availableaction, therefore, when it says“delete?” the channel has beenadded.
2 Press the NUMBER but-tons, CH(annel) +/– but-tons to select another signalsource to add to the Surf list.Press the SURF button andthen the CURSOR RIGHTbutton to add the channel tothe list.
Repeat this step, filling the listwith up to 10 favorite signalsources. NOTE: If you exceed10 channels a warning messagewill inform you to delete achannel before adding another.
3 To tune to a favorite signalsource from the list, pressthe SURF button. The Surflist box appears. Press theSURF button or the CURSORDOWN button or UP as manytimes as necessary to tune tothe channel.

HELPFUL HINTS• To delete a signal source
from the list, press theSURF button. The Surf listbox appears. Press theSURF button or theCURSOR DOWN buttonor UP as many times asnecessary to select thesignal source to be delet-ed. Then press the CUR-SOR RIGHT button todelete the signal source.The screen will say“add?” when the channelhas been deleted.

USING DSURF
DSURF locks the tuner into a “digi-tal only” mode. Like a “Caps
Lock” button on a computer keyboard,DSURF limits channel selection to digi-tal channels only.
1 Press DSURF.
2 Use Channel + or - to select achannel. Only digital channelsare available. A small icon,appears next to the channel toindicate DSURF is activated.
3 Press DSURF again to returnto normal channel selectionand the DSURF icon disappears

USING PICTURE-IN-PICTURE (PIP)
The Picture-In-Picture (PIP) featureallows you to display a subscreen
within your main screen and watch twovideo sources at once. Because your sethas one tuner, you need to use a VCRas a second tuner for your PIP picture.Tune to your favorite show on the mainscreen while scanning other AV inputs inthe PIP window. See panel 24 to selectthe PIP source.
1 Press the PIP button toturn PIP on.
2 Press the PIP button a sec-ond time to make the PIP win-dow smaller.
3To select a video source towatch in the PIP window, see“Selecting a PIP Source” onpanel 24.
4 Press the PIP button a thirdtime to turn PIP off.
MOVING THE PIP SCREEN
Press the POS button. Each timeyou press this button, the PIP screenmoves to another corner of the mainscreen.
FREEZING THE PIP SCREEN
Press the FREEZE button. Thepicture in the PIP screen stands still.Stopping motion allows you to writedown onscreen phone numbers oraddresses.

USING PICTURE FORMAT CONTROL
Your TV’s wide screen (16:9 aspect ratio)delivers a home-cinema experience not
possible with a conventional (4:3 aspectratio) set. High-definition (HD) programsoriginating in 16:9 format and otherwidescreen-format video sources appearmore lifelike, dramatic, and theatrical.Border bars are diminished or eliminated.Most anamorphic-DVD programs will fill thewide screen without border bars.
Selecting a Picture FormatUsing the Remote Control
Use your TV’s picture-format modeswith video sources you connect to theANTENNA, CABLE AV1, AV2, AV3,AV4, AV5, SIDE inputs on the TV. Whilewatching a video source—with noonscreen menu or display present—press the FORMAT button once to seethe currect mode. Press it again tochange to the next mode.

Picture-format ModesNATIVE (16:9) is the default for yourDTV because HD programs are broad-cast in this format. Analog channels areexpanded horizontally. 4:3 shows an analog the picture in itsoriginal, conventional (4:3 aspect ratio)format. ZOOM expands, or zooms, the pictureboth vertically and horizontally, eliminat-ing or reducing the size of border bars.PANORAMIC stretches the outer por-tions of the picture horizontally.
To prevent uneven picture-tube aging,do not leave border bars or other sta-tionary images on screen for extendedperiods of time.

Picture-adjustment OptionsRemember, when the bar scale is cen-tered , the control settingsare at mid-range levels. Picture adjust-ments are described as follows:BRIGHTNESS raises and lowers theblack level of the picture.PICTURE raises or lowers the intensityof the picture (also called contrast).SHARPNESS improves the detail in the picture.COLOR adds or eliminates color.TINT adjusts the picture to obtain natu-ral skin tones.COLOR TEMP offers NORMAL,COOL, or WARM picture preferences.
NORMAL keeps whites white.WARM makes whites less blue.COOL makes whites more blue.

ADJUSTING CONVERGENCE: CONVERGE RED/BLUE
Your projection TV has three color pro-jection tubes: one for red, one for
green, and one for blue. When mixed inproper proportion, the beams of lightcoming from the tubes can produce anycolor. To create a clear picture, however,these color beams must be preciselyaligned. This alignment is called conver-gence.NOTE: Allow the TV to warm up for 20minutes before adjusting convergence.
1 Press the MENU button toshow the onscreen menu. Pressthe CURSOR RIGHT button toenter the PICTURE submenu.Then press the CURSORDOWN button repeatedly untilMANUAL CONVERGE is high-lighted.
2 Press the CURSOR RIGHTbutton to enter the MANUALCONVERGE submenu. If youwant to adjust the RedConvergence, press the CUR-SOR RIGHT button to enter theadjust mode. To adjust the BlueConvergence, press the CUR-SOR DOWN button to high-light CONVERGE BLUE, thenpress the CURSOR RIGHT but-ton to enter adjust mode.
3 In adjust mode, press theCURSOR RIGHT, LEFT,UP, or DOWN button toadjust the cross hair until thecolor outline around it is gone.(The adjustment is automaticallysaved in the TV’s memory.) Toreturn to the MANUAL CON-VERGE menu, press the MENUbutton. To exit the onscreendisplay, press the INFO/EXITbutton.

The Multipoint Red/Blue Convergencecontrols allow you to adjust picture con-
vergence at specific points on the TVscreen.
1 Press the MENU button toshow the onscreen menu. Pressthe CURSOR RIGHT button toenter the PICTURE submenu.Then press the CURSORDOWN button repeatedly untilMANUAL CONVERGE is high-lighted.
2 Press the CURSOR RIGHTbutton to enter the MANUALCONVERGE submenu. Pressthe CURSOR DOWN buttonrepeatedly until MULTIPOINTRED or MULTIPOINT BLUE ishighlighted. Then press theCURSOR LEFT or RIGHT but-ton to enter Navigate mode.
3 Press the CURSOR LEFT,RIGHT, UP, or DOWN but-ton to move to a cross hairthat has a color outline. Thenpress the INFO/EXIT button toenter adjust mode.
4 Press the CURSOR LEFT,RIGHT, UP, or DOWN but-ton to adjust the cross hairuntil the color outline isgone.Then press the INFO/EXIT button to return to NAVIGATEmode. Repeat steps 3 and 4until all misaligned cross hairshave been adjusted.
5 For your adjustments to bestored in the TV’s memory,you must activate SAVEMULTIPOINT. To save your multipointadjustments, press the MENUbutton to return to the MANU-AL CONVERGE menu. Press the

The BASS BOOST control allows youto increase the low-frequency range

You may have noticed the peaks andvalleys of sound that occur between
program changes or at commercialbreaks. The volume levels often varyconsiderably. By turning on the AVL(Audio Volume Leveler) control, you canmake your TV produce a more consis-tent volume level. Follow these steps toturn the AVL control on.
1 Press the MENU button onthe remote control to showthe onscreen menu.
2 Press the CURSORDOWN button once to high-light SOUND.

SAP
SAP, or Second Audio Program, is anadditional part of the stereo broad-
cast system. Sent as a third audio chan-nel, SAP can be heard apart from thecurrent TV program sound. TV stationsare free to use SAP for any number ofpurposes, such as the broadcast of asecond language or other audio infor-mation.
If an SAP signal is not present with aselected program, the SAP option can-not be selected.
Alt Audio Program is the digital equiva-lent of SAP. It functions in nearly thesame way.

If you have connected the TV’sAUDIO OUTPUT jacks to the AUDIO
INPUT jacks on an external audio sys-tem, you can turn off the TV Speakers.Once the TV Speakers are off, you canadjust the Audio Out to either constantor variable output.

USING INTELLITUNE, SMART PICTURE
Because broadcasters and cable compa-nies are transitioning to Digital TV they
may broadcast digital channels at certaintimes or they may reorganize channelswithout notice. To make sure you do notmiss a channel, Philips has developedIntellitune. When the TV is OFF (standbymode) it will search for previously unpro-grammed channels and add them to thechannel list. It does this every three hours.
1 Press the MENU button onthe remote control to showthe onscreen menu.
2 Press the CURSORDOWN button twice tohighlight FEATURES.
3 Press the CURSOR RIGHTbutton to enter the FEA-TURES submenu.

SETTING THE TIMER START/STOP TIME
You can set the Timer to switch to aselected channel at a specific time
while you are watching another channel,or when the TV is in standby mode. Youcan also set the TV to turn off at sometime after the TV switches channels.
1 Press the MENU button onthe remote control to showthe onscreen menu.
2 Press the CURSORDOWN button twice tohighlight FEATURES.
3 Press the CURSOR RIGHTbutton to enter the FEA-TURES submenu. Then pressthe CUROSR DOWN buttonuntil TIMER is highlighted.

SETTING THE TIMER ACTIVATE CONTROL
After you have set the TIME, START TIME, STOP TIME, and CHAN-
NEL, you must activate the Timer for itto operate. Your options are to set theTimer to work ONCE or DAILY. SetACTIVATE to OFF if you don’t want touse the Timer.
1 Press the MENU button onthe remote control to showthe onscreen menu.
2 Press the CURSORDOWN button twice tohighlight FEATURES.
3 Press the CURSOR RIGHTbutton to enter the FEA-TURES submenu.

UNDERSTANDING AUTOLOCK CONTROLS
The AutoLock™ feature is an integratedcircuit that receives and processes data
sent by broadcasters, or other programproviders, that contain program content advi-sories. When programmed by the viewer, aTV with AutoLock™ can respond to the con-tent advisories and block program contentthat may be found objectionable (such asoffensive language, violence, sexual situations,etc.). This is a great feature to censor thetype of viewing children may watch.
AutoLock™ offers various BLOCK-ING controls from which tochoose:Access Code - An Access Code mustbe set to prevent children fromunblocking questionable or censoredprogramming set by their parents.Channel Block - After an access codehas been programmed, you can blockindividual channels.Block All - Allows you to block ALLchannels at one time.Movie Ratings - Certain blockingoptions exist which will block program-ming based on ratings patterned by theMotion Pictures Association of America.TV Ratings - Just like the MovieRatings, programs can be blocked fromviewing using standard TV ratings set byTV broadcasters.MOVIE RATINGSG: General Audience - All agesadmitted. Most parents would find thisprogram suitable for all ages.PG: Parental Guidance Suggested -This programming contains material thatparents may find unsuitable for youngerchildren.PG-13: Parents Strongly Cautioned -This programming contains material thatparents may find unsuitable for childrenunder the age of 13.
MOVIE RATINGS ContinuedR: Restricted - This is programmingspecifically designed for adults. Anyoneunder the age of 17 should only view thisprogramming with an accompanying par-ent or adult guardian.NC-17: No one under the age of 17will be admitted. - This type of pro-gramming should be viewed by adults only.X: Adults Only - This type of program-ming contains one or more of the follow-ing: very graphic violence, very graphic andexplicit or indecent sexual acts, verycoarse and intensely suggestive language.
TV RATINGSTV-Y -- Designed for a very young audi-ence, including children ages 2-6.TV-Y7 -- It may be appropriate for chil-dren age 7 and above who have acquiredthe development skills needed to distin-guish between make-believe and reality.TV-G -- Suitable for most audiences, thistype of programming contains little or noviolence, no strong language, and little orno sexual dialogue or situations.TV-PG -- This program contains materialthat parents may find unsuitable foryounger children. Your AutoLock™ access code allowsyou to enter the AutoLock™ sub-
menus to set up or turn off blocking.Your access code is also the “key” thatunlocks programs or channels that arebeing blocked by AutoLock™.
1 Press the MENU button onthe remote control to showthe onscreen menu.

Closed Captioning (CC) allows you toread the voice content of television
programs on the TV screen. ClosedCaptioning is only available when thebroadcaster supplies it. Even whenthe broadcaster supports ClosedCaptioning, it will not be available dur-ing all programs (most commercialsare not closed captioned).

USING AUTOCHRON
Follow the steps below to setAutoChron™ to download the time
from your PBS station to your TV.After successful setup, AutoChron™will automatically maintain the correcttime using your PBS station until youset the time using the AutoChron™MANUAL option (see panel 30).
1 Press the MENU button.The onscreen menu appears.Then press the CURSORDOWN button repeatedlyuntil INSTALL is highlighted.
2 Press the CURSORRIGHT button to enterthe INSTALL submenu.Then press the CURSORDOWN button repeatedlyuntil AutoChron is highlighted.
3 Press the CURSORRIGHT button to enter theAutoChron SET TIME area.

2 Use the number buttonson your remote control toinput the first digit for thetime. You can also press theCURSOR BUTTON UP orDOWN to select a digit. Pressthe CURSOR RIGHT buttonto move to the next digit inputslot and input the time.
If you should need to change anumber you have input, youcan press the CURSOR LEFTor RIGHT button to the digitinput slot to make the correc-tion.
3 After you have input thetime, press the CURSORRIGHT button to enter theAM/PM area. Then press theCURSOR UP or DOWN but-ton to select AM or PM.

USING WEAK DIG SIGNAL
Because Digital broadcasting is stillnew it is not uncommon for a
broadcaster to only send out a digitalsignal for part of a day. You could alsobe on the limit of the signal strengthand the reception comes and goes. Ifyou program your channels when thesignal is not being sent or is weak it willnot be saved in your channel set up.However, using the WEAK DIG SIGNALfeature you can add those channelswith weak signals to your channel list.
1 Press the MENU button.The onscreen menu appears.Then press the CURSORDOWN button repeatedlyuntil INSTALL is highlighted.
2 Press the CURSORRIGHT button to enterthe INSTALL submenu.Then press the CURSORDOWN button repeatedlyuntil WEAK DIG SIG is select-ed. Press CURSOR RIGHTbutton to enter the weak digi-tal signal menu.
