Why Sequoia™
Our commitment
The Sequoia lamp is backed by the full commitment of
Kumho Electric, Inc., a top-5 global lighting
manufacturer. Each light carries a 5-year warranty
when operated on a programmd-start ballast and 4
years for an instant-start ballast. If the lamp fails to
operate within that period of time, Kumho Electric will
provide a free replacement lamp plus $1.00 labor
allowance per lamp.
Patented Technology
Sequoia’s long life was developed through extensive
R&D efforts to create a special filament, utilizing
Kumho patented technology, to increase the amount
of Barium Oxide coating by a factor of four.
Barium Oxide emits electrons that pass across
vaporized mercury and produce UV, which excites
the phosphors to produce visible light. When the
Barium Oxide is exhausted, the lamp stops working.
Simply adding more Barium Oxide would make the
resistance in normal filaments go up, causing them
to burn out faster. It is the clever, patented filament
designed by Kumho which allows more Barium Oxide
coating without increasing resistance.
The second part of the technology is maximizing the
performance of that filament, which requires slightly
higher internal gas pressure. It is this higher gas
pressure which causes the slightly lower lumens.
Kumho’s engineers apply special phosphor blends
to these same 32 watt lamps to achieve higher
lumens in Sequoia HL versions.
“The lumen maintenance value at 25,000 hours was still about 95% and that value at 100,000 hours operation is estimated to be about 92%.
