ADVC-50 Jumper Settings *

Use the jumpers towards the rear of the PCB to modify the ADVC-50's functionality.

Video Format:

Jumper 1 toggles between capturing NTSC and PAL video format.

NTSC Setup Level:

With Jumper 1 installed, jumper 2 toggles the output black level between 0 IRE (Japan

NTSC) and 7.5 IRE (USA NTSC).

Locked Audio Mode:

Jumper 3 toggles between capturing locked audio or unlocked audio. When capturing

a lot of long clips, leave this jumper in position to make sure the audio stays locked to

the video.

Audio Mode:

Jumper 4 toggles between 48kHz/16-bit 2-channel audio and 32kHz/12-bit 4-channel

audio. Normally jumper 4 will be installed for best audio quality.

Macrovision Defeat: This is an undocumented feature. With Jumper 6 removed the ADVC-50 will remove

Macrovision copy protection.

Appendix 2

Using an older IEEE1394 Controller under Windows 7 Many older IEEE1394 (Firewire) controllers do not work with the default Win 7 drivers. The IEEE1394 bus driver was rewritten for Windows 7 to provide support for higher speeds and alternative media, as defined in the IEEE-1394b specification. The 1394 bus driver that is included with Windows 7 replaces the 1394 bus drivers that were included with earlier versions of Windows. As a result, many older controllers will not work with the ADVC-50. The solution is to change from the Windows 7 default driver to the "legacy" controller driver. The following instructions describe how to revert to the pre-Win7 or "legacy" 1394 host controller bus driver. This driver is provided for backwards compatibility for 1394 (Firewire) device drivers that are not compliant with the new Windows 7 1394ohci.sys driver architecture.

Step 1. Opening the Windows 7 Device Manager Click on the Start button, type devmgmt.msc in the box with the text "Search Programs and Files" and press the Enter key. This will open the Device Manager. Step 2. Expand the IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers entry so you can see the installed 1349 host controllers. Step 3. Identify the IEEE1394 (Firewire) controller in the Device Manager tree that you will be using with the ADVC-50, right click it, and select "Update Driver Software...." This will open the Update Driver Software window.

Step 4. Select the "Browse my computer for driver software. Locate and install driver software manually" option. This will advance to the next window where you will be prompted to browse for driver software on your computer.

Step 5. Towards the bottom of the window select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. This list will show installed driver software compatible with the device, and all driver software in the same category as the device". This will advance to the next window where you will be prompted to select the device driver you want to install for this hardware.

Step 6. Select the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host controller "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)" and click Next (it is important to select the Legacy controller). This will advance to the next window where the driver will be installed.

ADVC-50 Device Driver in Windows 7 With the ADVC-50 connected to a compatible IEEE1394 (Firewire) Controller, Windows 7 will automatically install an ADVC-50 device driver. To check the ADVC-50 driver, open the Device Manager and expand "Imaging Devices". The ADVC-50 driver should be listed as:
