In his first apostolic exhortation, Pope Francis spoke of how the best way to bring others to know Jesus is by radiating the Joy of the Gospel. But what exactly do we mean when we speak of joy? Joy is the spontaneous reaction one has to an awareness of being in the presence of God. (We might consider as an example of true joy the reaction of John the Baptist who leaped with joy in his mother’s womb in the presence of our yet-to-be-born Savior.) Joy is the experience of freedom – the freedom to know that nothing is more valuable than possessing the grace of God itself. This scripture reading sums up Stewardship. “Rejoice always” means place your trust in God; He will provide all that you need. “Pray constantly” means prayer should be a running conversation with God throughout the whole day, every day. “Give thanks in all circumstances” means even in bad situations, thank God. Suffering a little bit helps build empathy for others in similar situations and shows our dependence on God.

Esta lectura resume la Corresponsabilidad. “Vivan siempre alegres” significa poner la confianza en Dios; Él proveerá todo lo que necesitamos. “Oren sin cesar” significa que

FEAST OF ST. LUCY (LUCIA)Today is the feast day of St. Lucy (Lucia). She is the patron saint of those who are blind, and is a martyr of our faith. The name “Lucy” comes from the Latin word for “light,” so this feast day is often a celebration of light. Traditions include young girls wearing a wreath of candles on their head to begin the Christmas season. The light of the candles is a reminder that we should be a light in the darkness of the world. Let St. Lucy be a guide this week as you live your faith and share the light of Christ with others.

MEALS FOR HOMELESS SHELTER Good Shepherd is covering the needs of the VIC-HOP homeless shelter every Saturday in December and January. Thank you to all individuals and GS Groups that have volunteered to cook hot meals for the homeless shelter! • December 5 – Thanks to our Senior Singles group!• December 12 – Thanks to our ROCK Volunteers!Families can participate by donating Blessing Bags. In addition to dinner, we provide a bagged breakfast and lunch for each guest. Assemble bags at home and bring them to Good Shepherd to the special collection bin. FEED OUR HUNGRY NEIGHBORSThe ROCK soup kitchen needs large prepared casseroles. ROCK serves a hot lunch to about 20 people Monday through Friday at the Elks Lodge on Route One. LA CUARTA SEMANA18 - 24 de diciembre
Los símbolos de la cuarta semana de Adviento tratan sobre las personas que participaron en el milagroso nacimiento de Jesús. • Comenzamos con los padres de María: Ana y
Joaquín, • quienes prepararon a María a estar siempre
obediente a la voluntad de Dios (Lc 1:26-38). Esto la preparó a aceptar la invitación de Dios de ser la madre de Su Hijo.
• José (Mt 1:18-25), amorosamente cumplió su rol de esposo y padre protector de Jesús.
• El pequeño pueblo de Belén, con la misteriosa estrella, fue el lugar del nacimiento de Jesús.
• Los pastores del campo fueron los primeros en escuchar la noticia
• proclamada por los ángeles que llenaron el cielo.
• Fue así que Jesús nació, cerrando el capítulo final de la historia que inició hace mucho tiempo.
De la misma forma, su nacimiento también es el inicio de una nueva y asombrante historia para toda la humanidad.

THE FOURTH WEEK December 18 - 24The symbols of the fourth week of Advent deal with the people involved with the miraculous birth of Jesus. • We start with the parents of Mary, Anne and
Joachim, • who brought Mary up in the readiness to
always do God’s will (Lk 1:26-38). This prepared her to accept God’s invitation to become the mother of his Son.
• Joseph (Mt 1:18-25) lovingly fulfilled his role as the husband of Mary and the protective foster father of Jesus.
• The little town of Bethlehem, with its mysterious star, was the setting for Jesus’ birth.
• The shepherds in the fields were the first to hear the news
• proclaimed by the angels who filled the sky. • And so it was that Jesus came to be born,
closing the final chapter of the saga that had begun so long ago.
Yet His birth is also the beginning of a new and even more wondrous story for all people!
