Analysis of ancillary products: Adverts in music magazines for digipaks/ new releases/ tours and tour dates.

Page 2: Adverts in music magazines

Within this advert we see a new release of a Jessie J album, Image itself covers over half of the page. This indicates how important it is to push this star image representation as it is all about the star herself.

Initial thoughts

Page 3: Adverts in music magazines

This is the at the bottom of the advert it gives further information about the artist; her website links, as well as her record labels. This information gives an active audience (postmodern) the chance to gain more information about their favorite star.

This additional piece of information about the album is a buzzword hitter, “PLUS” gives the indication that the audience is almost getting more than they bargained for. Also as it is the last piece of text you read- it is last on your mind.

Another example; Initial thoughts

This advert has a aspects of verisimilitude in a sense of linking the artist with a realistic location; the audience will easily be able to distinguish where this artist has come from. The symbolic signs of a tower block is easily denoted into a city environment. His clothing (urban wear, chains etc.) is also linked together to create more of a realistic impact.

The font for the advert also links in terms of synergy: the artist’s costume, font, background all match this street type look. This font is almost like spray paint which again pushes this star image representation of a

street artist. Release dates for the album are also listed, they are in bold as it is more vital information for the audience. The tag line itself “WRETCHROSPECTIVE” is a combination of the artists name and the word prospective; of which is the way you look at different matters.

This piece of information displays the platforms (whether it be hardware or software) that the albums is available. The most notable are “Itunes” and “hmv”. Hmv in particular as it is the biggest on the advert which shows the way that the music is distribute to an audience.

Additional Information

Similar to the Jessie J magazine, the record label is very small on the advert. It is given just to give additional information about the artist. This appears to be a notable convention of a musical advert within print media.
