1 THE EURASIAN JUNE 2013 VOL 39 ISSUE 14 aeawa.asn.au Hello Members, A Happy Mother’s Day to all our members who are Mother’s and I hope you were well looked after on this special day by your loved ones! On the 5 th of May, we set out to give all Mother’s present at our Mother’s Day Sunday lunch a wonderful treat. Around 200 people packed into the hall where we were well entertained by the band ‘No Limits’ comprising Gerard Sandosham, Gerard De Souza & Keith D’Cruz, with special guest Bala, they had a crowded dance floor by the end of the afternoon! There was plenty to eat, plenty of prizes given away mainly to the ‘mothers’ and all this was topped off with a special gift for each mum present. We hope you had fantastic time. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped us make this a very special day for all….especially our Mothers! By now, all members should have received this years Event’s Calendar and Members Benefit Scheme, which were enclosed with the May newsletter. It gives you an overall view of events and activities that have been planned for the year. A huge effort was put into these by the Man- agement & Community Services Committees. Please participate actively and enjoy the benefits we have provided for you. An Executive Steering Committee has been formed and plans are underway in preparation for our 25 th Anniversary. As this is such a significant milestone in our short history, we would like it to be known as our “Silver Jubilee Celebration”. These celebrations will ultimately culminate with our Silver Jubilee Dinner & Dance. As you can appreciate it will be a big year with big events and these come at a cost. We will be doing some fund raising projects and will be seeking corporate and private sponsorships wherever possible. Your assistance with this will be much appreciated. Two major fundraising events are, our “Big Bingo Afternoon’ and ‘Musical Extravaganza’. Details of these will be available soon and your full support is encouraged! There will also be an Anniversary Raffle held at every Sunday lunch. Donations for these are welcomed! Our next Sunday lunch is on the 9 th of June. Bring the family and friends along for an afternoon of food and entertainment. Our Community Services talk on ‘Diabetes’ continues after the lunch and our Winter Dance is on the 22 nd of June at the Belmont Sports & Recreation Club (BSRC) on Abernethy Road and we are expecting another great turnout. Please get your tickets early to avoid any disappointment. Information on both can be found inside. Finally, on behalf of all our members, I would like to show my appreciation to a long time friend and honoured life member of the AEAWA, Philip De Mello, who after almost 25 years of unwavering service, has finally decided to ‘throw in the coffee cup’ and retire! Thank you Philip, your active presence at the AEAWA will be sorely missed! Now you can sit back and enjoy the Sunday lunches with the rest of us! Please join me in thanking Philip and wishing him our very best! Chad Beins

AEAWA SCHOLARSHIP FOR YEAR 11 and YEAR 12

At the Sunday Lunch in March 2013 and at the recent AGM in April 2013, the Management Committee

announced the introduction of an AEAWA Scholarship to be offered to all Year 10 students in 2013 of cur-

rent AEAWA members. Two scholarships each worth $700.00 will be offered and when awarded, these

two scholarships will be paid in two instalments of $350.00 each at the commencement of Year 11 and 12

respectively. AEAWA has secured two sponsors for these two scholarships for 2014 and 2015.

Details of these scholarships are as follows:-

Objective

The purpose of this scholarship is to reward students who have displayed a strong commitment to achieving

academic excellence and to encourage such students to excel in their studies to the best of their abilities in

Years 11 and 12. This is also a good way for AEAWA to provide a benefit to its current members and at

the same time, encourage new members by attracting families with children to join the association.

This scholarship has been instituted to commemorate the silver jubilee of AEAWA.

The scholarship will continue provided funding of the scholarship is available to AEAWA.

Criteria

To be considered for this scholarship, the student applicant must demonstrate:-

a high level of achievement across a number of learning areas in Years 9 and 10 including

English, Mathematics and either a Science or Humanities subject.

a balanced student life with participation in community services or sporting or, musical activities or any

other extra-curricular activity.

values which are or would be an asset to the wider community.

Do look out for information about applications for these scholarships in October 2013 .

LUNCH VOUCHERS

To serve the lunches faster, a lunch

voucher needs to be purchased –this is

how it works:

when you arrive you get a num-

bered ticket as usual

then you purchase a lunch voucher

at the entrance, currently $6 for a

main meal ($3 for over 80’s and

free for over 90’s)

if a side dish is available this may

also be purchased at the same time

when your number is called, please

present your numbered ticket to-

gether with the coloured voucher at

the kitchen to receive your meal.

(N.B: One ticket = one main meal + side

dish).

A gentle plea - please have the correct

amount handy to save us running

out of change.

In the unfortunate event that we run out of

all meals, we will refund your money.

(Cakes are sold after the lunch service

has finished)
