Performance. The 320D FM is equippedwith the C6.4 ACERT engine, whichprovides 7% more horsepower ascompared to the Cat 3066 T engine.

Automatic Engine Speed Control.The two-stage, one-touch controlmaximizes fuel efficiency and reducessound levels.

ADEM™ A4 Engine Controller.The ADEM A4 electronic controlmodule manages fuel delivery to get thebest performance per liter of fuel used.The engine management system providesflexible fuel mapping, allowing theengine to respond quickly to varyingapplication needs. It tracks engine andmachine conditions while keeping theengine operating at peak efficiency.

Electronic Control Module.The Electronic Control Module (ECM)works as the “brain” of the engine’scontrol system, responding quickly tooperating variables to maximize engineefficiency. Fully integrated with sensorsin the engine’s fuel, air, coolant, andexhaust systems, the ECM stores andrelays information on conditions such asrpm, fuel consumption, and diagnosticinformation.

Fuel Delivery. The Cat C6.4 ACERTfeatures electronic controls that governthe fuel injection system. Multipleinjection fuel delivery involves a highdegree of precision. Precisely shapingthe combustion cycle lowers combustionchamber temperatures, generatingfewer emissions and optimizing fuelcombustion. This translates into morework output for your fuel cost.

Cooling System. The cooling fanis directly driven from the engine.An optional programmable reversible fanallows for radiator blowout, to increaseservice intervals and to maintain engineoperational temperatures. The optimumfan speed is calculated based on thetarget engine speed, coolant temperature,hydraulic oil temperature and actual fanspeed. The Cat C6.4 ACERT delivereda completely new layout that separatesthe cooling system from the enginecompartment.

Air Cleaner. The radial seal air filterfeatures a double-layered filter core formore efficient filtration and is located ina compartment behind the cab. A warningis displayed on the monitor when dustaccumulates above a preset level.

Noise Reduction Technologies.The engine mounts are rubber-isolatingmounts matched with the enginepackage. Further noise reduction hasbeen achieved through design changesto the isolated top cover, oil pan,multiple injection strategy, insulatedtiming cover, sculpted crankcaseand gear train refinements.

Power TrainThe Cat® C6.4 has exceptional power and fuel efficiency unmatched in the industryfor consistently high performance in both forestry and millyard applications.

Component Layout. The 320D FMhydraulic system and componentlocations have been designed to providea high level of system efficiency.The main pumps, control valves andhydraulic tank are located close togetherto allow for shorter tubes and linesbetween components that reduce frictionloss and pressure drops in the lines.The layout further provides greateroperator comfort by placing the radiatoron the cab side of the upper structure.This allows incoming air to enter theengine compartment from the operatorside and hot air and correspondingengine sound to exit on the oppositeside away from the operator. This reducesengine compartment heat and soundbeing transmitted to the operator.

Pilot System. The pilot pump isindependent from the main pumps andcontrols the front linkage, swing andtravel operations.

Hydraulic Cross Sensing System.The hydraulic cross sensing systemimproves productivity with fasterimplement speeds and quicker,stronger pivot turns.

Boom and Stick Regeneration Circuit.Boom and stick regeneration circuitsaves energy during boom-down andstick-in operation which increasesefficiency, reduces cycle times andpressure loss for higher productivity,lower operating costs and increasedfuel efficiency.

Fine Swing Control. Standard fine swingcontrol cushions start and stop for betterimplement control.

Controllability. The hydraulic systemoffers precise control to the 320D FMreducing operator fatigue, improvingoperator effectiveness and efficiency,which ultimately translates intoenhanced performance.

Auxiliary Hydraulic Valve. The auxiliaryvalve is standard on the 320D FM.Control Circuits are available asattachments, allowing for operationof high and medium pressure toolssuch as grapples.

Hydraulic Cylinder Snubbers.Snubbers are located at the rod-endof the boom cylinders and both endsof the stick cylinders to cushion shocks,reduce sound and increase cylinder life,increasing uptime and productivity.

Operator Station. The workstationis spacious, quiet and comfortable,assuring high productivity duringa long work day. Controls, joysticksand an ergonomically designed seatreduces operator fatigue.

Operator ComfortThe purpose built forestry cab interior layout maximizes operator space, providesexceptional comfort, provides excellent sightlines and reduces operator fatigue.

Monitor. The monitor is a full color400 � 234 pixels Liquid Crystal Display(LCD) graphic display. The monitorangle can be adjusted to minimize sunglare and has the capability of displayinginformation in twenty-seven differentlanguages.

Pre-Start Check. Prior to starting themachine, the system will check for lowfluid levels for the engine oil, hydraulicoil and engine coolant and warn theoperator through the monitor in theevent display area.

Gage Display. Three analog gauges,fuel level, hydraulic oil temperatureand coolant temperature, are displayedin this area.

Event Display. Machine information isdisplayed in this area with the icon andlanguage.

Multi-information Display. This areais reserved for displaying variousinformation which is convenient forthe operator. The “Cat” logo isdisplayed when no informationis available to be displayed.

Seat. Seat provides a variety ofadjustments to suit the operator’s sizeand weight including fore/aft, heightand weight. Wide adjustable armrestsand a retractable seat belt are alsoincluded.

Joystick Control. Joystick controlshave low lever effort and are designedto match the operator’s natural wristand arm position. The operator canoperate joystick controls with an armon the armrest and the horizontal andvertical strokes have been designedto reduce operator fatigue. Exclusiveproportional control and push buttonsare programmable to operator personalpreferences, allowing maximumproductivity.

Hydraulic Activation Control Lever.For added safety, this lever mustbe in the operate position to activatethe machine control functions.

Console. Redesigned consoles featurea simple, functional design to reduceoperator fatigue, ease of switchoperation and excellent visibility.

Skylight. An enlarged skylight withsunshade provides excellent upwardsvisibility.

Viewing. Cab design optimizespost structures, and scratch-resistantpolycarbonate window placement toprovide excellent operator visibilityto front, sides and rear. Forestry cabis designed with heavy-duty guarding,meeting FOPS/OPS/FOGS/TOPSand CB requirements.
