Barcelona-El Prat, best airport in Southern EuropeBarcelona-El Prat Airport received the award of best airport in Southern Europe presented by Skytrax in the framework of the World Airport Awards 2016 on March 17th.
The airport also received this award in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
Aena’s financial results of 2015Total revenue in 2015 increased to 3,518 million euros (+11.1% compared to 2014), of which commercial revenue (Commercial plus Off-Terminal) accounts for 26.1%.
The ordinary commercial revenue grew by 14.9% compared to 2014, due to the new contracts and the implementation of the new commercial strategy.
Aena’s EBITDA in 2015 was 2,098 M€, +12.4% over 2014.
Consolidated net profit stood at 833 million euros (74.2% increase compared to 2014) due to the very positive evolution of the business and financial results.
Cash flow reached 1,629 million euros, a significant increase vs. 2014 (1,346 million euros) , representing a 21% increase.
Aena also consolidated the positive trend in passenger traffic and reached 207.4 Mpax in 2015, +5.9% more than in 2015.
As a result, the Board of Directors proposed, for the first time, at the General Shareholders Meeting the distribution of 2.71 euros dividend per share.

Short Haul Route: Iceland
General Overview
11,922 km2 of large glaciers and near 200 active volcanoes shape this country known as “The Land of Fire and Ice”. One of the most famous glaciers is Snæfellsjökull, used as the entry point for the characters of Julio Verne’s famous book “Journey to the centre of the earth”. Its beautiful landscapes has also been featured in the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones”.
Located in the North-Atlantic ocean just below the Artic Circle, Iceland is also the land of light and darkness: long summer days with nearly 24 hours of sunshine and short winter days with few hours of daylight. Take a stroll in the midnight sun in summer, it is something that you will never forget.
Iceland is well known for its Aurora Borealis, but there is more, from caves to tubes with lava formations which allow you to connect with nature. Also try outdoor bathing or bathing in geothermal pools.
Surfing, super jeeping, snowmobiling, whale whatching, salmon fishing, hiking, ice climbing, river rafting, kayaking, caving, horseback riding, or diving are some of the exciting activities that you can enjoy all year round.
Icelandic culture has been shaped by isolation and the extreme forces of nature. These conditions have created a resilient people, where family ties are close, the sense of tradition is strong, and the bond with nature is tight.

Potential Routes
Recently Icelandair announced scheduled flights from Reykjavik to Madrid and Barcelona from June to September. Both cities are an all year round destination that had 158,652 searches with 11,366 redirections in the case of Madrid and 236,977 searches with 18,360 redirections in the case of Barcelona according to Skyscanner. This demonstrates that there is still room to establish a scheduled route all year round.
Another interesting all year round destination is The Canary Islands. According to Skyscanner there where 7,300 searches to Gran Canaria and 6,500 to Tenerife South in 2015.

Long Haul Route: GuangzhouGeneral overview
Guangzhou, known formerly as Canton, is China’s busiest transport and trade hub and the third largest city in the country, after Beijing and Shanghai.
With a population of about 14 million people, Guangzhou is also the center of one of the most populous metropolitan agglomerations on Earth — the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone-which has an estimated population of 57.6 million people.
A giant metropolis, Guangzhou is home to gleaming skyscrapers and leafy alleys, the old and the new, the tradition and the modernity of China. Its history as a strategic trade port to the South China Sea and its closeness to Hong Kong and Macau have afforded Guangzhou a culturally diverse population, which have resulted in its unique lifestyle, extraordinary cuisine and tremendous wealth.
The city is famous for the China Import and Export Fair (commonly known as the Canton Fair) — the largest trade fair in the world, which sees thousands of international visitors flocking to Guangzhou twice a year. Thus from 2013 to 2015 Guangzhou ranked as the top best commercial city in China, according to Forbes.
In 2015, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) was China’s third busiest and world’s 17th busiest airport by passenger traffic, with a record passenger volume of 55.2 million travelers2.

Potential Routes
Spain has no direct flight connection with Guangzhou. However, in 2015, 137,000 passengers flew directly from Beijing to Madrid and Barcelona3, whilst 576,749 indirect passengers flew from all mainland China to Spain, of which 39,846 started their journey in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
Additionally, in 2015 there were more than 100.000 indirect passengers from Latinamerica to Guangzhou that could be captured by connecting through Spain thanks to its high connectivity, absence of transit visa and cultural and language links.1 Hong Kong Trade Development Council

1. La Sagrada Familia
Five generations have already witnessed the temple’s rise in Barcelona. Construction continues today and is hoped to be completed in 2026 (the centennial of Gaudí’s death).
When completed, it will reach 170 meters, which is intended to be one meter less than Barcelona’s highest point, Montjuïc hill.
The project was first commissioned for Francisco Del Vilar, but after creative disagreements he dropped the site and it was passed over to Gaudí.
The holy place was built to be seen from all points of the city. It has glass mosaics at its highest points, when reflected by sun or moonlight, act as beacons to guide sailors home.
2. The Gothic Quarter and Barcelona cathedral
The Gothic Quarter used to be the perimeter of Barcino, a former Roman colony. It got the name “Gothic Quarter” in the 20th century.
The Gothic Quarter is full of “plazas” and hidden nooks and crannies, be sure to explore all of them.
Most of the sights at the Gothic Quarter are concentrated around the Cathedral of Saint Eulalia. Probably the best part of the cathedral is the 14th-century cloister. It is home to a flock of white geese whose ancestors have lived here for five centuries. How they originally came here remains a mystery and they are certainly an unusual feature for a cathedral. Various legends say that they represent the virginity of St. Eulalia.
The church is one of the landmarks of Barcelona. The design is unique and was revolutionary for the time in which it was built. It seems like a fortress with its monumental towers.
Did you know that the church of Santa Maria del Mar, together with Mallorca Cathedral, has the most spacious interior of any three-nave European Gothic church?

3. Church of Santa María del Mar

Palau de la Música Catalana was built between 1905 and 1908 by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and financed by popular subscription.
The Palau de la Música Catalana is an architectural jewel of Catalan Art Nouveau and the only concert venue in this style to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (4th December 1997).
The building is designed around a central metal structure covered with glass, which exploits natural light to make masterpiece into a magical music box which brings together all the decorative arts: sculpture, mosaic, stained glass and ironwork.
4. Palau de la Música 5. Las Ramblas
The curious fact about this landmark is that there is not just one Rambla but actually five. The popular promenade is 1.2 kilometres long and it splits in five different bouvelards: Rambla de Canaletes, Rambla dels Estudis, Rambla de les Flors, Rambla dels Caputxins and Rambla de Santa Mònica.
The other surprising fact is that Barcelona’s most famous pedestrian street was in the past a stream of water that flowed down from the mountains to the Mediterranean sea.
A stroll down Las Ramblas ends just in front of Christopher Columbus Monument. But, did you know that the sculpture doesn’t point to America? There are several theories on where does the finger point: it is said that the destination is Algeria, while others believe that is a quarter in Palma de Mallorca town called ‘Geneva’, coincidentally, the Italian city with the same name is where Columbus was born.
A magnificent view and a wonderful way to enjoy your evening. Tibidabo peak is home to two major points of interest: the mountain's soaring cathedral and it's fun-filled amusement park.
The name “Tibi-dabo” is, according to the Bible, a passage in which Satan tries to make Jesus fall into temptation. He said to him: "Haec omnia tibi dabo si cadens adoraberis me", In English "I will give you all you can see if you kneel". which in the end means “I will give you all you want”.

7. Park Güell
Eusebi Güell gave Gaudí the assignment of drawing up plans to develop an estate for well-off families on a large property he had acquired in the zone known popularly as the Muntanya Pelada bare mountain. The complex conditions to sale the plots, the lack of a suitable transport system and the highly exclusive character of the development all made it unviable. The park thus became a large private garden, used for public events authorized by Güell.
Thanks to the work of Friends of Gaudí, Park Güell was opened to the public in 1963 and is a public park much appreciated by Barcelona’s inhabitants, as well as a major focus of attraction for visitors. It was recognised as an artistic monument in 1969 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
Güell wanted to recreate the British parks, that is why he named it Park Güell, in English.
8. Casa Milá (La Pedrera)
The Casa Milá got the nickname "Quarry" because of the unusual construction. The large stone slabs were first mounted to the facade and then processed by the craftsmen. The construction was also groundbreaking. The house has a natural ventilation system, which makes air conditioning unnecessary and in Gaudi's plans and elevator was included.
Gaudi designed the Casa Milá inspired by the shapes of nature: as a result, not a single straight angle can be found in the building. The highlight of Casa Milà is undoubtedly the roof. Not only the overwhelming view of the city attracts the eyes of the visitors, but also the chimneys, ventilation shafts and stairwells with their fanciful colors and shapes leave a memorable imprint in the imagination of the privileged tourist. In fact, some chimneys look like soldiers, who watch over the roof.
9. Casa Batlló
It is also known among locals as the "House of Bones," Casa Batlló seems to have been designed with the shapes of organic forms in mind. The goal was to avoid using any straight lines, and the roof is said to be shaped like the arched back of a dragon.
Casa Batlló was originally bought by the Batlló family because of its location, and they had plans to demolish it and build something less gaudy. Antoni Gaudi convinced them that a simple restoration would do the trick, fortunately.
Quite apart from its artistic value, the building is extremely functional, in a way that is much more typical of the present than of the past. There are even those who see elements in it which are precursors of the vanguard of late 20th century architecture.

La Boquería (Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria) is Barcelona's best-known market and one of Europe's largest and most famous food markets. This is a place where to spend an hour or so feasting the senses and where you will find foods of all varieties and nationalities under one roof.
Here you are some examples of catalan cuisine:
Pa Amb Tomaquet (Pan Con Tomate): Bread rubbed with fresh tomatoes and drizzled with oil and salt. A true Catalan staple.
Escalivada: A warm side dish of grilled vegetables skinned and de-seeded and served with oil.
Escudellla: Catalan stew made with a piece of meat, beans, potatoes and cabbage.
Butifarra: An uncured spiced sausage with similarities to Cumberland sausage.

11. Sant Jordi’s Day is the Catalan Valentine’s Day
Saint George Day, knwon in Spanish as “Día de Sant Jordi”, is also called the Day of the Rose, which in Spanish means “Día de la Rosa”, because of the amount of roses that one can find all over the city. The story of Sant Jordi says that he slayed the dragon of Montblanc before it ate a beautiful princess. Due to this romantic act, Sant Jordi Day is celebrated as a sentimental celebration.
The tradition is to exchange gifts between sweethearts, loved ones and friends on the 23rd April. The man gives a rose to a woman as a sign of love, and the women gives a book, as a sign for eternal love in return. So in a way, Barcelona integrates Book Day into their own Valentine's Day.
Barcelona is the first and only city that received a Royal Gold Medal for architecture in 1999.
This honor for architecture is awarded annually since 1848, by the Royal Institute of British Architects on behalf of the British monarch, in recognition of an individual’s or group’s substantial contribution to international architecture.
The city’s architecture has had a huge influence on many contemporary architects around the world.

Located 8 kilometres outside Santa Cruz de la Palma, it is a modern airport fully equipped to contribute to the economic growth and development of tourism in the region it serves. Traffic is above all domestic, altough international traffic has its origins and destinations mainly to Germany, the Netherlands and United Kingdom. At La Palma airport, important developments has been made to the infraestructure - a new terminal building, a control tower and an extended apron - in order to adapt the aiport’s capacity to air traffic demands.

Reasons to visit La PalmaThe fact that it does not take you long to drive from the mountains down to the sea. The fact that going around the island is comfortable and relatively easy. The expression “traffic jam” is totally unknown for us. However, taking the peculiar island topography into account , do not forget that you will find roads full of curves or even narrow ones. The beaches at Los Cancajos (Breña Baja), Puerto Naos (Los Llanos de Aridane), El Puerto (Tazacorte), Bajamar (Breña Alta), Zamora (Fuencaliente), La Veta (Tijarafe), Nogales (Puntallana), and the natural seawater swimming-pools at La Fajana in Barlovento or Charco Azul (San Andrés y Sauces) are all good options.
