SkiLLS And PASSionS to LASt A LifetimeThe future of the aviation sector can be found in Peterborough. Home to Seneca College’s groundbreaking flight training school, as well as two top-ranked post secondary institutions Fleming College and Trent University, Peterborough is a place where young talent comes for training. It also represents an astounding pool of skilled employees for growing businesses in the aviation and technology sectors.

Seneca CollegeSeneca’s Bachelor of Aviation Technology program is the only aviation technology-based degree program in Canada. Seneca has been the national leader in aviation education for more than 40 years. The Bachelor of Aviation Technology program provides a rigorous aviation technology-based curriculum and the application of this theory to aviation. This program is also accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI). This board accredits Aviation University and College aviation programs. The School of Aviation and Flight Technology is a member of the University Aviation Association (UAA) and the Air Transportation Association of Canada (ATAC).

Trent UniversityTrent University is a research-intensive institution with campuses in Peterborough and Oshawa. The university was founded in 1964 as a primarily undergraduate liberal arts and sciences teaching institution. With a land area of 1,460 acres Trent is, in geographic terms, one of the largest universi-ties in Canada.

Trent currently has 12 graduate programs, including the only Indigenous studies PhD program in Canada. It has a strong international reputation for excellence in its environmental sciences research and teaching programs.

The Aircraft Interiors Fundamental program offers some of the finest training available for anyone interested in a career in the aerospace industry, and is a Co-Op program with Flying Colours Corp, a global leader in aircraft completions, refurbishment, modification, repair and modernization with over 20 years experience working on a variety of business jets and regional airliners.

Program courses include: Terminology, Safety & Emergency Equipment Maintenance, A/C Interior Component Removal & installation, A/C Interior Component Repair and Modification, A/C Interior Component Fabrication.

Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School (Aviation & Aerospace SHSM)This specialized program allows students to experience learning activities in the Aviation and

Aerospace Sector while meeting the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

The SHSM program is a practical and effective way to provide students with skills and Aviation and Aerospace Sector training that assists in the transition of students from secondary school apprenticeship training, college, university or the workplace.

It includes a Co-Op program and classroom at the Peterborough Airport. The students get the opportunity to experience the every day activity and culture of a modern Aerospace and Aviation Sector.

industrial AirportThe Peterborough Airport opened in 1969 following expansion and licensing by Transport Canada for scheduled services. The airport has grown progressively over the years, and today Peterborough’s industrial airport is a leading base for national and international aerospace manufacturing, aircraft and engine overhaul and maintenance, charter operations, corporate and general aviation, flight training, aviation and aerospace trades education, tourism gateway to Peterborough & the Kawarthas, private aircraft owners and operators and aviation support activities.

Major Expansion ProjectWith the Peterborough Airport having seen over $35 Million of infrastructure improvements since 2010, there is no better time to explore new opportunities in aviation.The governments of Canada and Ontario, along with the City of Peterborough each invested $7 Million through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund program for the major expansion program. An additional contribution of $7.6 Million was made by the City for a total investment of $28.6 Million.

Additional improvementsA second phase of expansion was completed in 2013 with an additional City of Peterborough investment of $6 Million, which included:

• A 2000 ft paved crosswind runway and supporting parallel taxiway

• Bravo taxiway extension of 1000 ft

The expansion project has set the stage for economic growth in the Peterborough region, opening the door for job creation and new business opportunities.
