We eat food to live. The food we eat makes up our diet.

Our body needs the substance in our diet to work, this is called nutrients.

The three important nutrients are, carbohydrates, proteins & fats.

Carbohydrates provides our body with energy.

Examples of carbohydrates: starch, sugar.

ProteinsProteins

Proteins are used in our body for growth & repair damage tissues.

Its also a source of energy.Examples of proteins : fish, meat, egg

white, cheese & beans.

Oils & FatsOils & Fats

o They provide two times more energy then carbohydrates.

o Examples of fats :butter, margarine, cooking oil, oily fish & meat

Carbohydrates, proteins & fats are made up of large molecules which are not insoluble in water. Only small molecules can pass through the cell membranes & enter the cell, so the large molecules must be broken down.

In some countries, children do not have enough food to eat . This effects their, growth, their shorter & weighs less.

Some people eat very little as they think their fat & because of that, they feel weak & tired. The lack of food also affects their growth.

People recovering from sickness or an injury need a good diet so that the body can repair itself & be healthy again.
