Third Grade Tidings

Third grade has been working very hard

this school year. We are starting on Unit

and Subtracting Whole Numbers, and

we are continuing to build stamina for

Daily Five in Reading. The students have

become very independent during their

Daily Five rounds, and are doing an

excellent job! As a reminder, don’t

forget to turn in those Reading Logs

every Friday. Remember to always stay

positive!!!

Second Grade Snip its

Second graders have been working hard

these past couple of weeks. We are

finishing up our second week of book clubs

with the book Nate the Great. The

students are enjoying learning about

mysteries. We are also about to finish our

first unit of Superkids. Our students love

getting to know the characters and

relating to the stories. In math we have

really been working on addition and

subtraction strategies, and becoming

more fluent with our basic facts. We

would like to remind parents to please

send in their child’s “Reading Bag” each

Friday, so we are able to refill their bags

with new books for the next week.

The Fall Carnival is coming 10/25 from 6-8 and….. Help is needed!

Please contact Suzy Rosswurm to help

[email protected] or 762-2131

Library Lingo The Fall book fair will be held from Monday, September 29 – Thursday,

October 2. At the book fair students can pre-order the new Diary of the Wimpy Kid The

Long Haul. All the profits made from the book fair go towards purchasing new books for our school library. Students and parents please remember to return library books on time and take proper care of the books. If

books are damaged beyond repair you will be charged for the book.

PE News My name is Mr. Patton and I am the PE teacher here at AES. I would like to remind everyone shoes are required for PE class students should have a pair to wear on our new gym floor and

refrain from wearing sandals the days they have PE. Also if students are wearing a dress they

need to make sure they have shorts on underneath for gym.

Students have been working on cooperation games and skills stations the last couple of

weeks. We started our soccer unit this week and we will be going outside so students should wear shoes and maybe a light jacket if they have

PE class in the morning. September is Childhood Obesity Month and to

help raise awareness I will be sending home weekly tips every Friday. You can help your child develop healthy habits early in life that

will bring lifelong benefits. As you gain practical tips on helping your kids eat nutritious meals and enjoy a physically active lifestyle, be sure to apply these same behaviors to your own

life. The best way to lead your child to a healthy lifestyle is to set a positive example

yourself. The prevention of childhood obesity starts at home. In an effort to help families the American Heart Association came up with the

EmpowerMEnt Challenge. Here’s how it works: Over four weeks, families across the

country are encouraged to take control of their health by pursuing a different healthy goal every

week which includes eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking less sugar sweetened beverages, reducing sodium intake and

increasing their physical activity-together. Each goal is fun, simple, won’t break the bank and can be done as a family. By the end of the

month, families will be better equipped to live a heart-healthy life Take the challenge is easy and

they will be sharing lots of free tools and materials to help you along the way. Your child

received a Raising Healthy Kids flag to color and sign to join the movement to live a heart healthy life. . For more resources check out

heart.org/healthierkids or The EmpowerMEnt Challenge Event Page on Facebook. When posting about the challenge be sure to use

#LifeisWhy so they can see all of the great things that you guys are doing!!

Avoid smoking and using tobacco products. Be physically active every day.

Eat a heart-healthy diet.
