So the knowledge about color and effective application of colors followingthe scientific principles of art as well as of color is important

Color is defined as the reflection or absorption of light by a given surface.

It has three distinct characteristics- hue, value and intensity (Lew ,1984).Colour plays an important role in weaving a harmonious picture and helpsto establish a feeling of comfort and warmth.

THE CHARACTERSTICS OF COLOUR . Hue is the particular shades or tint of the color.

Values is the lightness or darkness of the color .

Intensity is the degree of brightness or dullness of the color

    General guidelines

Colors in large areas should have similarreflectance's, especially if the areas are adjacentto each other.

Large areas or big objects should not be paintedin bright, intense colors because it cause people

to see after images. Contrasting colors in spaces are important to

    relieve visual monotony

    27/33

Work requiring intense concentration is done ( a technical writersoffice or a data entry center, for example ), walls and ceilingsshould be painted in light colors that do not attract attention.

Bright, intense colors such as orange, bright yellow, red, andbright blue are best used in places that are mainly used for shortperiods of time. For example, entrance halls, corridors, circulation.

Variety can be introduced through accessories such as plants, photos in workstations, and woven wall hangings.(Joyce andWallersteiner,1989)

A HOUSE CAN BE A HOME WHEN ITSHELTERS THE BODY AND COMFORTS

    THE SOUL

So let us be surrounded by beautiful things but

it should be functional too, as the purpose of

ID is mainly three fold, functional andaesthetic and off course self expression.
