    S hs:The first high school classes were offered in 1930,

    and were housed in the basement of the formerMcKenzie School, which now serves as theAdministration Building of the district, at 8701Mackenzie Road.

    The first section of the original Affton Senior HighSchool building, which was later named W.F. GauntHigh School, was constructed in 1936 at 8520Mackenzie Road, and the first class to graduate fromthe new high school was in 1937.

In1983, Affton partnered with the LindberghSchool District to offer Affton-LindberghEarly Childhood housed at Concord Schoolin the Lindbergh district. In 2006, Afftonsplit from Lindbergh to partner with SpecialSchool District and the program moved to

    the St. George School, located at the cornerof Gravois Road and Heege Road.

    for projects beyond the scope or capabilities of the district. Its pri-orities include providing teacher grants to support extraordinaryefforts in the classroom, and college scholarships, funded by anendowment, for Affton students.

    directors who serve without compensation. Members are elect-ed at large to serve staggered terms of one to three years each.There is no limit on the number of terms a member may serve.

    community in ensuring our students receive the best education.

    School BoarD MeetinGSRegular meetings of the Board of Education are held the firs

    and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the MultipurposRoom at Affton Early Childhood, 9832 Reavis Road.

    PUBlic noticeAll responsible public agencies are required to locate, evaluate,

    and identify children with disabilities who are under the jurisdiction

    of the agency, regardless of the severity of the disability, including

    children attending private schools, children who live outside the

    district but are attending a private school within the district, highly

    mobile children, such as migrant and homeless children, children

    who are wards of the state, and children who are suspected of hav-

    ing a disability and in need of special education even though they

    are advancing from grade to grade. The Affton School District

    assures that it will provide a free, appropriate public education

    (FAPE) to all eligible children with disabilities between the ages of 3

    and 21 under its jurisdiction. Disabilities include autism, deaf/blind-ness, emotional disorders, hearing impairment and deafness, men-

    tal retardation/intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic

    impairment, other health impairments, specific learning disabilities,

    speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, visual

    impairment/blindness and young child with a developmental delay.

    The Affton School District assures that it will provide informa-

    tion and referral services necessary to assist the State in the imple-

    mentation of early intervention services for infants and toddlers

    eligible for the Missouri First Steps program.

    The Affton School District in partnership with the Special

    School District of St. Louis County assure that personally identif

    able information collected, used, or maintained by the agency fo

    the purposes of identification, evaluation, placement or provisio

    of FAPE of children with disabilities may be inspected and/o

    reviewed by their parents/guardians. Parents/guardians ma

    request amendment to the educational record if the parent/guard

    ian believes the record is inaccurate, misleading, or violates th

    privacy or other rights of their child. Parents have the right to fi

    complaints with the U.S. Department of Education or the Missou

    Department of Elementary and Secondary Education concernin

    alleged failures by the district to meet the requirements of th

    Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The AfftoSchool District has developed a Local Compliance Plan for th

    implementation of State Regulations for the Individuals wit

    Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This plan contains the agency

    policies and procedures regarding storage, disclosure to third pa

    ties, retention and destruction of personally identifiable informa

    tion and the agencys assurances that services are provided i

    compliance with the General Education Provision Act (GEPA). Th

    plan may be reviewed at the Affton Administration Office, b

    appointment with the Director of Special Education. This notic

    From its start in a one-room, native-stone schoolhouse, the

    Affton School District has grown into one of the most successfuldistricts in the state, recognized for Distinction in Performance thelast five consecutive years.

    To mark its 150th anniversary of education and service, in 2005the district published a pictorial history which traces the districtsproud history from the mid-1800s to the present.

    The 144-page book tells the story of Affton School District andthe community which supports it through pictures. Many of thephotos and memorabilia were donated to the district from privatecollections and have never been viewed by the public.
