AFL Central Victorian AFCA Re-Launch The AFL Central Victoria Commission has highlighted the importance of coaching as part of its plans for 2014. As a result of this there has recently been a review of the Central Victorian Australian Football Coaches Association (AFCA), including two think tanks for both male and female coaches. From this review an implementation plan was developed. Part of this plan was to Re-Launch AFCA and introduce its new structure. The new structure involves the naming of an ambassador, lead mentors to support coaching in the region, a new committee involving two parts. An advisory committee to oversee the direction and possible opportunities for the committee and a sub-committee involving each league in the region. Finally, and most importantly, coaches from all levels within the region will be actively involved in AFCA. Coaches will at times be categorised in Representative, Senior, Female, Youth, Junior Football and Auskick Sub-groups. They will have access to coaches from different age groups across the region. All accredited coaches in our region will be members of the Central Victorian AFCA and are encouraged to participate in AFCA events at discounted costs. We are very pleased to announce Damien Drum as AFCA Ambassador (former AFL Coach), David Newett (TAC Cup Coach), and Aussie Jones (VFL Coach and former AFL player) as our lead mentors. One main focus of the AFCA will be information sharing, training and professional development meetings held bi-monthly on Monday nights. Our first meeting was held on the 17 th of April at the Bendigo Club. AFL Central Victoria is looking for a sponsor to help facilitate meetings and initiatives in Bendigo and across the region. Interested businesses can contact AFL Central Vic Football Development Manager Rick Coburn on 0438410315 or [email protected]). Ricky Coburn AFL Central Victoria Football Development Manager

Bendigo Development Squads Reports V-Line Cup (Boys) & Subway Shield (Youth Girl)

The Bendigo Development Squads (Boys-V-Line Cup/Girls-Subway Shield) participated in this years development carnival from the 6th to 9th of April. These squads were known as the ‘Joel Selwood Bendigo Development Squad’. The boys program commenced in November with an initial squad of 90 boys invited to trial for 55 spots in two teams, Division 2 & 3. V-Line Cup Program involved 2 nights a week of training at Epsom. Over ten intra-club practice matches, three practice matches against other regional teams and three games within the carnival for both teams. The Division 2 boys finished 4th and Division 3 boys finished 6th in their respective divisions. A big thankyou to Tyrone Jones (Div 2 Coach) and his team of assistants, Michael Blake, Brad Fawcett and Neale Torpey. Also to the coaching team of Div 3 coaches, Bruce Wallace (Div 3 Coach), Patrick O’Brien, Darren Edmondson and Cam Davie.

Some girls involved in the program were travelling from as far away as Kerang. The girls played one practice match and three games within the Subway Shield Carnival, finishing 3rd in the competition. Alana was assisted by Grace Campbell ‘Female Youth Football Ambassador’.

Congratulations to the 2014 State Youth Girls Representatives: Ainslie Kemp (Castlemaine), Ruby Campbell & Bella Ayre (both from the Huntly FC)
