TRAVELING TO AND STAYING IN KIGALI

FLIGHTS The closest international airport to the Kigali Convention Centre is Kigali International Airport (IATA: KGL, ICAO: HRYR). The airport is served daily by major European carriers including Brussels Airlines, KLM and Turkish Airlines, and African Carriers including Egypt Air, Ethiopian Airlines and the national carrier of Rwanda, RwandaAir. Please note, that flights on Brussels, KLM, Qatar and Turkish airlines tend to stop in Entebbe on the flight from Kigali to their respective hubs.

ARRIVAL IN KIGALI

PASSPORT A passport or travel document that is valid for not less than six months issued by a State or an International Organization recognized by the Government of the Republic of Rwanda, and a valid visa (for nationals whose country requires a visa) are required to enter Rwanda.

VISAS As of January 1, 2018, all citizens of the world will be issued a visa upon arrival at all Rwandan border posts without prior application. Official representatives and experts holding Diplomatic passport traveling to Rwanda to attend the African Drone Forum will be issued a free visa upon arrival. Delegates from East African Community Member States do not need a visa upon arrival. Citizens of all countries that are not visa-exempt also have the option to submit applications online or at the Rwanda Diplomatic Missions of the country of residence before departure. Those applying online have the option to pay online or upon arrival. There is no single affiliated Agent that is authorized to apply for a visa on your behalf and such Agents may mislead you and charge more than the required fees. Applicants must have a valid passport or another acceptable travel document. The document must be valid for at least six months on the day of entry into Rwanda. The visa fees must not exceed 50 USD for a single entry visa. For further information on the Rwandan visa process, please check the following site: https://www.migration.gov.rw/

CUSTOMS CONTROL Commercial airline passengers are advised to familiarise themselves with any luggage size and weight limits to avoid extra charges and inconvenience. For safety reasons, carrying dangerous materials, objects, and liquids in hand or checked luggage is prohibited. All drones will need to be declared in advance or risk being confiscated and kept with customs until departure from Rwanda. The registration form for drones of the Rwandan Civil Aviation Authority can be found on their website. Please be in touch with the organizers at [email protected] if you are planning to carry



drones for the event. It will take a minimum of 2 weeks to process the registration application.

AIRPORT TRANSFER Kigali International Airport is the largest airport in the Kigali region and is located in the outskirts of the city. It takes an average of 15-20 minutes to get from Kigali International Airport to the Kigali Convention Centre. The hotels listed under the accommodation section all offer airport transfers that can be pre-booked. Please check with your hotel whether they offer this service if you are making alternative accommodation arrangements. Alternatively, taxis are safe, quick and reliable and available from outside the airport terminal at all times. A taxi from the airport the KCC should cost around 15,000 RWF. Please note that cars and luggage will be checked upon entering the perimeter of Kigali International Airport. Allow extra time when transferring for departing flights.

GETTING AROUND KIGALI Hotel and conference venue staff can recommend official taxi drivers for any destination in Kigali. Please make sure you have some cash at hand as some taxi services in Rwanda do not accept cards. Public transportation is also accessible at all hours in Kigali. Please defer to hotel or venue staff for directions or recommendations.

DRIVING Driving is on the left-hand side of the road.

WEATHER IN KIGALI

The average temperature in early February can range from 16°С to 28°С. On windy days, high humidity always makes it feel colder than it is. For this reason, we recommend that guests at the Forum bring warm clothing and an umbrella with them.



LANGUAGE The national language is Kinyarwanda although French, English, and Swahili are also official languages.

LOCAL TIME ZONE Kigali is on Central Africa Time (GMT+2 hours).

ELECTRICITY SUPPLY The power supply in Rwanda is 220/240V AC. It is advisable to bring your own round, two-prong adapter and transformer for 100V AC. The outlets and plugs used in Rwanda are mainly two pins (type C or J). Illustrations below offer guidance most common plugs and socket in Rwanda. Type C is the most widely used.

CURRENCY/ BANKING SERVICES Banking hours are from 08:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 15:00 on Saturdays. Banking amenities are available at all commercial banks; local and regional banks hold an agreement with a variety of credit card networks:

• VISA: Bank of Kigali, Ecobank, Equity Bank, I&M Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank, ACCESS Bank, Banque Populaire du Rwanda, and Urwego Opportunity Bank.

• MasterCard: Bank of Kigali, ACCESS Bank, Cogebanque, and Equity Bank. • China Union Pay: Access Bank, Equity Bank, and Bank of Kigali. • Japan Credit Bureau: Equity Bank. • American Express: Equity Bank and Bank of Kigali. • Diners Club: Equity Bank and Bank of Kigali.

Most internationally recognized currencies and travelers’ cheques can be exchanged at commercial banks, hotels, and at Kigali International Airport. Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops.



SIM CARDS The following Rwandan mobile telecommunication service providers are available:

• MTN • Airtel

Mobile telephone service providers also provide a gateway to the Internet using GPRS, 3G and 4G. Cell phone SIM cards are widely available; however, every SIM card user/buyer in Rwanda is expected by law to be registered by presenting identification for activation. The SIM card can be registered at the point of purchase.

PLASTIC BAGS As part of an environmental protection policy, plastic bags are not permitted into Rwanda. Passengers entering Kigali International Airport, or any other border posts with plastic bags are required to discard them and are supplied with an environmentally friendly alternative at a cost ranging between 2 to 6 US Dollars.

ADF VENUE The main events of the African Drone Forum Symposium and Expo program will take place at the Kigali Convention Centre (KG2 Roundabout, Kigali). A detailed map of the Forum venue will be published on the official website and in the African Drone Forum mobile app. Forum personnel will be available to provide assistance in locating specific venues.

BADGE COLLECTION Participant badges may be picked up in person at the ADF registration desk (upon presentation of an identity document). If your accreditation badge is lost or damaged, please go to the registration desk. Participants should keep their badges and identity documents with them at all times at the Forum venue. The badge is personalized and non-transferable.



PROGRAMME The African Drone Forum Symposium programme contains four themed tracks:

The Symposium programme will discuss the state-of-the-art in drone services, innovation and know-how beyond the technology – in cost-benefit assessment, operating models, risk management, regulatory compliance, skills and training. ANCILLARY EVENTS On February 4, 2020, we are offering a day trip to Karongi to watch live drone flights available by invitation only and to VIP Plus ticket holders. On February 8, 2020, we are offering a tour to the Zipline nest leaving from KCC at 8AM (TBC) with a return to KCC at 1PM (TBC). Spaces are limited and sign up is on a first come first served basis via email to [email protected]. Please include "Zipline tour" in the subject line of the email.

EXHIBITION The expo area is open during the following times:

MOBILE APP The African Drone Forum mobile app is the best way to get the latest information and learn about everything offered at the Forum. The mobile app Attendify can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. In the app, search for ‘ADF2020’. All of the app’s functions and features are fully available after registration to the ADF which were specified in the participant’s invitation to the forum. Key app features:

GENERAL INFORMATION

FOR PARTICIPANTS WITH LIMITED MOBILITY The Kigali Convention Centre is accessible for users with limited mobility.

DRESS CODE Business casual is required at the event venue. Modest clothing is recommended outside the venue.

GRATUITIES Tipping is always a personal choice, and visitors are encouraged to tip as they find appropriate. The recommended amounts for gratuities are 5% to 10% of the restaurant bill and RFr500 per bag in hotels.

HEALTH AND EMERGENCY SERVICES Recommended vaccines for travellers to Rwanda include Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Yellow fever, and Rabies. You may need to take prescription medicine before, during, and after your trip to prevent malaria. Always discuss with your doctor before travelling. Please note that you might be asked to present your international certificate of vaccination (yellow card) at the point of entry to verify having received the yellow fever vaccine. Swimming in Lake Kivu or walking barefoot along the shores should be avoided due to occurrences of bilharzia. Use of insect repellent is recommended. There will be medical services available at the venue during the conference hours. For after-hours, Delegates are advised to seek treatment at one of the following hospitals:

Kigali city has several pharmacies open during day hours, with few others working 24/7 on a rotational basis. Participants are requested to have travel medical insurance as any emergency medical care will have to be paid directly by participants. SHOPPING CLOSE TO THE VENUE Kigali Heights Shopping centre on KG 2 Roundabout adjacent to the Kigali Convention Centre is a major retail centre and home to a number of dining options and shops as well as a 24-hour pharmacy. Public Offices open from 07:00 to 17:00 while business open from 8:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday. Opening times on weekend for businesses range between 09:00 to 22:00. VENUE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES The Kigali Convention Centre is furnished with modern safety equipment, including fire extinguishing systems. In case of an evacuation announcement, participants should do the following:

● Keep calm and act according to the instructions of the ADF staff, the police

and other persons responsible for maintaining public order and fire safety ● Not interfere with rescue personnel, police and transport operations ● Leave the Forum venue in accordance with evacuation plans and follow Exit

signs We ask you to immediately report smoke, fire or any suspicious objects by dialling 113 on your mobile device and notify the ADF staff.
