• 18 million people — 47% under 14

• Roughly 500 mi. long

• English & Chichewa are the 2 main

languages

• Plateau, highlands, valley

• 90% work in agriculture

• Environmental issues are

deforestation, drought, and water

pollution

• World’s lowest GNI per capita -- $250

• 53% live below poverty line

• Literacy – 73% male, 59% female
