radio stations in Burundi on the order of President Nkurunziza”. The award was given by the Mayor of Paris in recognition of his commitment as someone who has campaigned for the freedom of the press in

Burundi. On August 31, 1984 he was re-elected without opposition in the first direct presidential elections since the coup of 1976. President BAGAZA is the first President to have developed the country. Many roads, schools, military camps, hospitals, offices, industries,... were built under his regime. The last years of the m a n d a t e o f B a g a z a w e r e c h a r a c t e r i z e d by the deterioration of relations with the Catholic Church. On September 3, while he was in Quebec (Canada) attending the Francophonie, President Bagaza was deposed in a military coup. He was replaced as president by Pierre Buyoya, and went into exile in Uganda and later went to Libya, where
he lived until 1993. From 1994 until his death, he led the Party for National Recovery (PARENA). He was a Senator for life as a former head of state. He died in Brussels, Belgium on 4 May 2016 at the age of 69.

This shortening process is associated with aging, can-cer or a high risk of death. Contrary to the life history theory, women with fewer children exhibited shorter telomere lengths than women with more children. Moreover, women who gave birth to more surviving chil-dren had longer telomeres, going against former theo-ries that producing a larger number of offspring speeds up biological aging

he Parliament Wallonia- Brussels Federation has unanimously decided to award this year’s prize for Democracy and Human Rights to Burundi human rights defender, Pierre Claver Mbonimpa.Through h is Association for the Protection of Human Rights and Detainees ( A P R O D H ) , Pierre Claver M b o n i m p a pledged in favor of human rights. Recently, he has clearly shown his position
against the third term of Burundi president Pierre Nkurunziza. Mr. Pierre Claver Mbonimpa was seriously involved in the fight against torture and
sexual violence even in this period of crisis where many young people were arbitrary arrested, tortured or killed.
In the current political turmoil in Burundi, Pierre Claver Mbonimpa lost one of his sons and his son-in-law both killed in gunshot attacks. This happened after he had fled the country
as he had himself been target of an assassination attempt of which he got out badly injured. The award, with a prize of 10,000 euros, will be awarded to him on wednesday afternoon on the occasion of the plenary session of Parliament.

he Ministry of Education, Higher formation and Scientific Research organized on April 28, 2016 an entrance examination in the Faculty of Medicine for public and private universities.At Mutanga campus, candidates in the competition were divided into five auditoriums. Only candidates who provided with their national ID cards were allowed to do the exam. Ms. Anastasie Gasogo, the Director General of Higher Education and president of the commission in charge of the exam said that activities started well apart from some particular cases of irregularities related to the delay. Some candidates were disoriented since they did not know the location of Mutanga campus, she said.
Moments of pause between the tests have been reduced to recuperate the lost time. For candidates who did not find their names on the list due to error, Ms. Gasogo said they were allowed to do the examination and the verification process would follow without disturbing other candidates.Concerning the reason why the ministry decided to organize such competition which was done in previous years, Ms. Gasogo explained that it was due to the fact that at the end of secondary school, a number of pupils who want to continue their university studies in the Faculty of Medicine has increased. Therefore, an entrance exam is necessary to select the number of students needed in that faculty. Furthermore, Burundi has made this decision in order to conform to the standards of the East African Community (EAC) requiring only 100 students.As far as results of the exam are concerned, Ms. Gafoto promised that by the end of May, they will be available and that the claims and validation will be completed.Note that this examination was the second one organized in this perspective and it took place in three centers such as Ngozi (North), Makamba (South) and Bujumbura ( We s t ) w h e r e 11 5 0 candidates from the whole country were registered for doing the exam. u Burundi, les premières promotions dans le nouveau s y s t è m e d e l ’ e n s e i g n e m e n t fondamental vont passer l’examen national au mois de juin, qui leur permettra de poursuivre l’enseignement post fondamental.Un climat de confusion reigne chez les candidats à cet examen ainsi qu’à leurs parents. Cette confusion est causée par le fait que seuls les résultats obtenus dans cet examen seront pris en considération par le ministère ayant l’éducation dans ses attributions pour orienter ces élèves dans l’enseignement post fondamental. C e q u i a c c r o î t l’inquiétude est que les programmes dans certains cours ne toucheront pas à leur fin suite au retard de plus d’un mois dans l’octroie de livres aux écoles.Le gouvernement du Burundi prévoit créer des centres de formation professionnelle pour les élèves qui ne réussiront pas à l’examen national, mais cela ne rassure personne
puisqu’aucun signe ne montre même le début de ce projet. La situation politique et sécuritaire au Burundi risque d’handicaper la mise en application de cette réforme en éducation étant donné que certains bailleurs de fonds ne financent plus certains domaines.Signalons que la mesure de considérer
seuls les résultats de l’examen national dans l’orientation dans l’enseignement post fondamental concerne aussi les élèves de la dixième année de l’ancien système même si ils feront des examens différents. Les élèves de la 9e année de l’enseignement fondamental seront orientés dans les mêmes sections que les élèves de la 10e année de l’ancien système.
