Putting a Stamp on January Canadian Bluenose might sound like
someone who’s been out in the Janu-
ary cold too long, but it’s actually the
name of a stamp issued in Canada on
January 8, 1929. It features an image
of the Canadian schooner Bluenose,
a celebrated racing ship, hard-
working fishing vessel, and symbol
of Nova Scotia. The stamp is consid-
ered to be one of the most beautiful
stamps ever
made and is
worth about
700 Canadian
dollars.

Auld Lang Syne What does it mean?
The title of the Scottish tune translates to "times gone by" and is about remembering friends from the past and not
letting them be forgotten.
Despite its strong associa-tion with New Year's Eve,
"Auld Lang Syne," written by Robert Burns in the 1700s, was never intended to be a
holiday song. Guy Lombardo is credited with popularizing
the song when his band used it as a segue between two radio programs during a
live performance at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York
in 1929. By coincidence, they played "Auld Lang
Syne" just after the clock hit midnight, and a New Year's
tradition was born.
The song, and the confusion that comes with it,
has been immortalized in countless movies and TV
shows
Questions Inside
Canada’s winter sport will be celebrated by having hockey games in the Atrium every Friday morning. Come out and test your skills, enjoy the competition, and sing in ode to the “Good Ole Hockey Game”. This will lead into the Winter 2018 Olympics and will finish with an all star game at one of our other AgeCare sites. Check out your calendar to see times.
Just want to watch? Come out and cheer on your neighbourhood.
January Birthdays
In astrology, those born between January 1– 19 are Capricorn’s Goats. Goats are practical, deter-mined, and ambitious. They follow a straightforward path and persevere with grit and honesty. Those born
between January 20–31 are Water Bearers of Aquarius. Water Bearers are creative and intellectual philoso-
phers, getting to the root of problems and using their tal-ents for the benefit of others.
