In what ways can household products be harmful?

•Household products that are hazardous can be toxic, corrosive or flammable. •They can contain metals that are toxic to humans. •They can accumulate in ecosystems and cause harm to organisms. •If they are handled, stored or disposed of incorrectly, some can react with other chemicals and cause harmful accidents.

Analysis Question 2

Give an example of a product that can no longer bediscarded in the garbage. Explain why this is nolonger allowed.

Batteries are one example of a product that can no longer be discarded in the garbage in most states. They contain heavy metals that can accumulate in the ground and groundwater if they end up in a open garbage dumps or landfills.
