Good Morning Katy, I am interested in connecting with someone from your local Advisory Committee on Accessibility. My name is Carolyn Smith and I am an exhibit designer at Reich+Petch Design International, an exhibit design firm that works in Science Centres, Museums and Zoos both nationally and internationally. I am currently preparing a session proposal for next years Canadian Association of Science Centres conference to be held at the Exploration Place Museum & Science Centre in Prince George . The topic I am proposing is “Accessible Exhibit Design Strategies for Small and Large Facilities”. I was hoping to include someone from your Accessibility Advisory council to discuss your community’s needs and to provide a personal local perspective. Would you be able to direct me with someone I can talk to, to see if this is something they might be interested in participating in? Thank you for your Consideration. All the best,
Reich+Petch

TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL NAME AND TITLE: Andrea Palmer, Chair, Advisory Committee on Accessibility SUBJECT: Advisory Committee on Accessibility 2016 Annual Report ATTACHMENT(S): Advisory Committee on Accessibility 2017 Work Plan
PowerPoint Presentation Terms of Reference for the Advisory Committee on Accessibility
PURPOSE: The purpose of this report is to review the achievements and projects that the Advisory Committee on Accessibility completed throughout 2016. This report also provides an overview of work that the Advisory Committee on Accessibility plan to undertake throughout 2017. 2016 ACHIEVEMENTS: Transportation The Committee continues to maintain and develop a database of sidewalk and pedestrian networks that create barriers for people. The information in this database is shared with staff in the Public Works Department each year to inform the prioritization of annual sidewalk improvements. Parks and Trails Input on the Parks Strategy, including supporting ongoing work by Spinal Cord Injury BC’s Access North project, whose work has informed tangible results in Prince George Parks. One example is evident in Ginter’s Park – a gate was adjusted and trails altered to ensure barrier-free access for all. We can also look to the Great West Life Mobility Trail at Tabor Mountain for an exemplary new trail that forms a model for accessible trail systems in British Columbia.
RECOMMENDATION(S):
1. That the report dated February 23, 2017 from the Chair of the Advisory Committee on Accessibility titled “Advisory Committee on Accessibility 2016 Annual Report”, BE RECEIVED FOR INFORMATION; and
2. That the 2017 Workplan attached to the report dated February 23, 2017 from the Chair of the Advisory Committee on Accessibility titled “Advisory Committee on Accessibility 2016 Annual Report”, BE APPROVED.
