NOTES FOR APPLICANTS1. Two winners will be selected; one for each option.
2. Entrants may submit only one contest application form per option. In the case of multiple entries by the same
person only the first submission received under each option will be considered.
3. Awards are given with the strict understanding that no additional support for the project will be provided.
Recipients are responsible for any costs pertaining to shipping and import duties associated with getting the
tracking devise, as well as all costs with deploying, acquiring and analyzing the data, and producing the final
report / publication., and project completion.
4. Submitted entries will be considered by a selection panel. Winner selection is at the selection panel’s sole discretion.
Call for proposal opens on 23 September 2020. Applications close at 17:00 (Korean Standard Time) on 23 October 2020.
Awards will be announced at the East Asian-Australasian Shorebird Science Meeting.

Guidance to Applicants
1. Conditions applicants accept when applying for tracking devices1.1 The applicant must register for the 1st East Asian-Australasian Flyway Shorebird Science Meeting.
1.2 The applicant agrees to provide the following: 1) a report to the Shorebird Working Group within three
months of project completion, 2) a short write up of their project outcomes for the EAAF Partnership’s
newsletter and website, 3) winner of option 1 will need to provide summary results to Migrate
Technology Ltd. as identified on the website advertisement of this competition. Award winners are
strongly encouraged to publish their results in peer-reviewed journals.
1.3 Applications should have in-kind contributions and other matching finances (i.e., to deploy, analyze,
and report on tracking devices).
1.4 Lead investigators are responsible for obtaining all necessary permits from necessary authorities to
undertake tracking studies in their respective geographies (i.e., government, ethics, Indigenous
groups, etc.).
1.5 Project completion is required within 18 months of the close of the application period (by April 2022).
1.6 Winning applicants are required to acknowledge either Migrate Technology Ltd or Druid Technology
Co. Ltd in any presentations, publications, reports or promotional material arising from this work.
2. Criteria with which Project will be assessed for funding (it will be assumed the applicants agree to conditions in #1 above)
2.1 The project will improve the understanding of factors important for the conservation of migratory
shorebirds and their habitats in the EAAF.
2.2 The focus of the project is on at least one the migratory shorebird species in the EAAF
2.3 The alignment of the project with priority Single Species Action Plans or overall EAAF Partnership’s
Shorebird Working Group objectives. See www.eaaflyway.net/shorebird-working-group/ scroll down to
“Shorebird WG – Work Plan (2019 – 2020)” for a list of recent priorities.
2.4 The appropriateness of the tracking device for the species and question at hand (e.g., within body weight
limitations, prior information showing good use of tracking device on this species or similar). Tracking
devices should not exceed 3% of the body weight of the species on which it is deployed to meet ethical
guidelines for animal welfare.
2.5 The ability of the lead investigator to deploy tracking device, obtain and analyse transmissions from
tracking device, and report on results (i.e., the likelihood of the project achieving its objectives).
2.6 The justification for why this study is particularly important.
2.7 Leveraging of in-kind contributions and other matching financial.
