    The opera tor inter face is provided by the display and th e front pa nel

    keys.

    The displa y ma y be mult iple windows or a single window.

    When t he display is mu ltiple windows, th e "active" window is indicat ed

    with a color which is different from t he color of th e th ree "inactive"

    A mu ltiple window display is available. The displayed pa ges are:

    Transmitt er Out put, Receiver Input, Results and either Graph or Ot her

    (Function).

    Allows control of the settings associated with the generated signal.

    Allows cont rol of th e sett ings ass ociat ed with th e received signal.

    Allows cont rol of the test timing a nd gra ph st ora ge and displays theselected measurement results.

    Allows ma na gement of the st ored gra phical results.

    Modifying Displays w ith Pop-up Menu s

    Alth ough th e met hod of modifying the displa ys with softk eys is always

    available, it is ea sier in ma ny cases to use the Pop-up m enus.

    The pop-up m enus ar e par ticularly useful for:

    Text entr y

    Date/time entr y

    Int eger, Hexadecima l and Binar y entry Trace data ent ry

    Menu selection when th ere a re a large nu mber of choices

    SDH/SONET payload m apping

    ATM physical a nd ada pta tion layer selections

    Jitter mask selections

    If an a tt empt is ma de to set out of ra nge values, the instr um ent will

    adopt t he n earest possible legal value.

    Displays.

    In some cases selection is simplified with a pictorial or gra phic "ma p"

    display. This facili ty is available where the display has a symbol.

    These displays are obtained in th e same way as th e pop-up men us using

    . Some of these displays include m enus which allow th e sett ings to

    be changed.

    NOTE Details of th e pictorial display depend on th e optiona l modules fitted tothe instrument.

    Using th e Other Front Panel Keys

    The test set a tt empts t o ma tch the sett ings to th e received signal.

    Termin at es the curr ent t est period if one is in progress. Start s a n ew test

    period. The indicat or a bove the key is lit when a test period is inprogress.

    Adds a single bit err or t o the outpu t da ta patt ern each time th e key is

    pressed.

    Retur ns t he inst ru ment from rem ote opera tion to Local (keyboar d)

    operat ion. The indicat or a bove the key is lit when t he instr um ent is

    un der Remote Control.

    Displays th e pop-up m enu for t he curr ently highlight ed field. This key

    also confirms the selection made.

    Clears th e pop-up m enu without chan ging th e selection.

    The selected m easur ement results ar e logged, immediately, to the

    selected printer.

    the current stat us of the instru ment. If an a larm h as occurr ed during the

    current Test Per iod, the indica tor above is lit . To view

    which a larms have occurred, press and hold . When

    is released th e stat us indicat ors ret ur n to displaying the

    current s tatus .

    When pressed an d held, th e Stat us indicat ors display any alarm s which

    ha ve been set du ring th e cur rent Test Period. This cont inues un til
