Approximately 90% of the food requirements are met through imports due to the unsuitable climate, limited water resources and uncultivable soil conditions. The collective annual food bill for the GCC region alone hovers in the $9 - 10 billion range, of which the United Arab Emirates share is about 60 percent.

Qatar National Food Security Programme is aiming to achieve self sufficiency by 2023 as plans are being made to gradually increase domestic crop production whereas the UAE is looking at buying lands overseas and creating food reserves.

Innovative solutions in the agriculture sector are in great demand in the region to overcome food security issues and AGRAme is the only platform to meet the leading decision makers in the region.

Poultry industry in the Middle East has seen significant growth over the last decade but increasing population and expansion of the hospitality sector has pushed the country to import poultry and livestock products from other countries all over the world. Poultry expansion projects are growing around the region. The year 2010 saw total investments in Saudi Arabian poultry industry surpass US$ 8 billion whereas rest of the GCC countries have also followed suit with significant investments in the poultry sector.

As a pioneer in aquaculture among the countries of the GCC, the United Arab Emirates is endowed with many natural lagoons, bays and creeks, most of which are encircled by mangrove swamps provid-ing ideal spawning and nursery grounds for a wide variety of fish and shrimp species. Aquaculture concerns like Marine Resources Research Centre and International Fish Farming Company (ASMAK) are leading the development of this sector in the region. In a recent move, UAE has established Khalifa Bin Zayed Centre for Marine Research, which will be developed at a cost of US$ 20 million. The centre will help ensure increased fish stocks in the UAE territorial waters and protect such resources from irrational consumption.

In a pursuit to further develop their aquaculture sector, the GCC countries are seeking latest relevant technology from manufacturers worldwide and AGRAme is a perfect platform to meet the top decision makers in the region.

Arab nations are considering launching an ambitious strategy involving investment of nearly $65 billion (Dh238.7bn) in the next 20 years to expand their farming sector and ensure food for their fast-growing population. The UAE amongst other nations has also joined the quest to reduce annual spending of over US$ 4 billion on imported food supplies. Industry experts in the country are advocating the import of relevant technology and equipments to increase the country’s ability to produce locally and eventually, reliance on domestic produce.

With the growing concern for food security and consequential investments in agriculture in the Middle East, the need for agricultural machinery is more than ever before. Machinery & Supplies Exhibition is the only available platform in the Middle East to introduce your agricultural machinery brand.
