Agricultural impact on the landscape of each region

The agricultural activity in Campania is limited to the coastal plains which have got an extraordinary production, thanks to the abundance of water, the fertility of the volcanic land and the favourable climate. That is why the Romans called it Campania felixCampania is the first places in the national production of:

peas tomatoes

Aubergines

Potatoes Peppers

The expanses of tomatoes fields represent the most common landescape in the countriesThe cultivation of the piennolo tomatoes at the foot of Vesuvius has got ancient roots. These ones are very tasty tomatoes which can be preserved until the springtime, provided they are tied with a sort of garland hanging from the ceiling.

A curiosity: the piennolo tomatoes

The hilly landscape of our region is characterized by the cultivation of vines and olivos

In the plain we can find the cultivation of fruit treesWinter landscape: Citrus plantationSpring landscape: fruit treespeach trees in bloom

An exclusive production of the Campania region: The AnnurcaAppleIt is called the "queen of apples" and It is only one originating in the south of Italy

After the crop, the annurca apples need a reddening period when they are placed on some straw trellis-works. The fruits are placed there in rows, exposing the less red side to sunlight. The term annurca is considered to come from mala orcula, because such a kind of apple was produced near the Orcus, that is near the Averno Lake (in Pozzuoli).
