GENERAL INFORMATIONClomate is a novel microcapsule suspension formulation of clomazone. It is a residual herbicide for use in all varieties of winter oilseed rape, potato, combining pea (spring), vining pea, winter and spring field beans, and carrots, for application to the soil prior to crop and weed emergence.Clomazone acts by blocking the synthesis of certain essential plantpigments, including those required for photosynthesis. Susceptible weedsabsorb clomazone during germination and emerge with bleached ordiscoloured leaves and die shortly after emergence.

WARNINGS AND RESTRICTIONSCROPS EMERGED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION MAY BE SEVERELYDAMAGED. EXTREME CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO AVOID SPRAY DRIFT to avoid

severe damage or complete destruction of plants outside the target area.DO NOT APPLY under windy conditions. DO NOT ALLOW SPRAY SWATHS TO OVERLAP as crop damage mayoccur.Do not apply to broadcast crops. Do not cultivate after application. Do not use on sands, very light soils or on soils with more than 10%organic matter content or on any soil with poor or compacted soil structureor that is subject to waterlogging. A reduced level of weed control may result if a prolonged dry periodfollows application.Weed control is likely to be unsatisfactory if application is made to drycloddy seedbeds.Under certain climatic conditions, some transient discolouration of thecrop foliage may occur, which can be particularly severe if heavy rain fallssoon after application. These transient symptoms are quickly outgrownand have no adverse effect on crop yield. Trace amounts of Clomateremaining in the sprayer after use can cause damage to other cropssubsequently treated with the same equipment. Immediately after usethoroughly clean the sprayer and all equipment as detailed in the section“SPRAYER DECONTAMINATION”. The safety of Clomate to daughter tubers has not been tested, consult themanufacturer or your advisor before using on seed crops. Contract agentsshould be consulted before using on crops grown for seed. Effects onprocessed crops have not been established. Consult processor beforeusing Clomate on crops intended for processing. There is a risk to adjacent crops and non-crop vegetation from thevolatilisation of Clomate. This may result in damage/bleaching toneighbouring vegetation. If effects are seen they must be reported via theStewardship Programme (see www.clomate.eu or contact your cropprotection distributor or adviser).

RESISTANCE MANAGEMENTThere is a moderate risk for the development of weed resistance toClomate. A strategy for preventing and managing such resistance shouldbe adopted. This should include integrating herbicides with a programmeof cultural control measures and alternating the use of Clomate with otherherbicides with a different mode of action and a similar spectrum ofactivity. Guidelines have been produced by the Weed Resistance ActionGroup and copies are available from the HGCA, CPA, your distributor orcrop adviser. Implement a weed resistance strategy based on GoodAgricultural Practice and including the following: Follow the label recommendations.

CLOMATE 3L LEAF_AlbEU-UK_Clomate_LBL_CR_08-01-14 23/01/2014 14:42 Page

Adopt complementary weed control practices.Minimise the risk of spreading weed infestations.Implement good spraying practice to maintain effective weed control. Usethe correct spray nozzles to maximise coverage. Apply only underappropriate weather conditions. Monitor herbicide performance and reportany unexpected results to Albaugh Europe Sàrl.

APPLICATIONBefore use, make sure the spraying equipment is cleaned from anyprevious use and that it is calibrated to apply the recommended sprayvolume and pressure. After use, make sure the sprayer and all equipmentare thoroughly cleaned as detailed in the section “SPRAYERDECONTAMINATION”. Apply in 200-400 litres of water per hectare as aCOARSE spray (BCPC). Do not allow the spray boom to bounce or yaw,and ensure an even coverage of the soil surface.

MIXINGHalf fill the sprayer tank with clean water and begin gentle agitation. Addthe required quantity of product into the sprayer tank and allow to dispersefully. Rinse the empty containers thoroughly by using an integratedpressure rinsing device or manually rinsing three times. Add the washingsto the sprayer and continue agitation whilst topping up the tank with waterto the required level. Continue agitation until the mix is sprayed out. Sprayimmediately after mixing, do not allow the mixture to stand in the sprayer.

WEEDS CONTROLLEDThe following weeds are susceptible to a pre-emergence application ofClomate at the recommended rate:Cleavers Shepherd’s PurseCommon Chickweed Fat-hen (moderately susceptible)Red dead-nettle

CROP RECOMMENDATIONSWinter Oilseed RapeApply to moist level seedbeds that are of a fine tilth and free from clods.Loose or puffy seedbeds should be consolidatedby rolling or other cultivations prior to application. The seed should be covered by at least 20mm (3/4 inch) of soil to ensureadequate crop safety. Where a crop has been direct-drilled, the drill slits must be closed by harrowing across thedirection of drilling prior to application. Where direct drilled crops aretreated then ploughing and cultivating to a depth of 15 cm must take placebefore the planting of any subsequent crop. Do not apply to broadcastcrops. Clomate may be used on all varieties of winter oilseed rape. Applyas soon as possible after sowing the crop and before emergence of crop

and weeds. Apply 0.33 litres per hectare in 200-400 litres as a COARSE spray (BCPC).Do not allow the spray boom to bounce or yaw, ensure an even coverageof the soil surface.

Field Bean (winter)Apply to crops on level seedbeds that are of a fine tilth and free from clods.Loose or puffy seedbeds should be consolidated by rolling or othercultivations prior to application. The seed should be covered by at least20mm (3/4 inch) of soil to ensure adequate crop safety. Where crops aredirect drilled they should be cultivated before application to close the slitsand cover the seed. Clomate may be used pre-emergence of crop and weeds on all varieties offield bean (winter). Apply as soon as possible after sowing and beforeemergence of the crop and weeds. Apply 0.33 liters per hectare in 200-400 liters as a COARSE spray (BCPC). Do not allow the spray boom tobounce or yaw, ensure an even coverage of the soil surface.

PotatoApply to crops on level seedbeds that are of a fine tilth and free from clods.Loose or puffy seedbeds should be consolidated by rolling or othercultivations prior to application. The seed potatoes should be covered byat least 20mm (3/4 inch) of soil to ensure adequate crop safety. Clomatemay be used pre-emergence of crop and weeds on all varieties of potato.Apply as soon as possible after the last ridging operation and before thesoil starts to crack (usually about 7 days before emergence). Apply 0.25 litres per hectare in 200-400 litres as a COARSE spray (BCPC).Do not allow the spray boom to bounce or yaw, ensure an even coverageof the soil surface.
