Maharajas’ Express General Information

On Board the Maharajas’ Express The Maharajas' Express features five carriages for Deluxe Cabins, six for Junior Suites, two for Suites and one for a grand Presidential Suite. Every cabin has large panoramic windows - a design marvel, just so, that you can savour every bit of magnificent India. All passenger Cabins come with individual temperature controls, the first of its kind in India. LCD televisions, DVD players, direct dial telephone and internet, to name a few. In-house movies and live television also keep you entertained through the royal journey. Just a small reminder for those who are used to a different power supply, the Maharajas' Express is equipped with 110/230V sockets. Every cabin also has its own electronic safe deposit box.

General Information Please find below some general information to assist you with your planning for your journey aboard the Maharajas' Express

Maharajas' Dining A royal banquet for royal passengers, the Maharajas' Express has two fine dining restaurants that seat 42 persons each and everyone on board dines together. House wines and beer served whilst dining come complimentary, of course.

Maharajas' Bar And Lounges One exotic Safari bar with the choicest collection of house brands of wines, beer and spirits with snacks come complimentary to every passenger. There's also a lounge cum bar Rajah Club with comfortable club arm-chairs. And if these features don't make you feel pampered, the Maharajas' Express also houses a high-end boutique featuring exquisite and unique creations.

Credit Cards The Maharajas' Express accepts Credit Cards, master, Visa, Amex on board. A surcharge is applicable on all payments made using credit / debit cards.

Maharajas' Transport From super deluxe coaches for Deluxe Cabin and Junior Suite passengers, to cars for the Suite and Presidential Suite passengers each at every destination. All equipped with complimentary sightseeing kits like bottle coolers, candies and tissues and shoe uppers.

Visas Passengers should be in possession of valid travel documents and a valid visa granted by Indian Missions abroad for entering India. Those arriving in India without visas bearing the correct validity dates and number of entries into India are subject to deportation. For Foreign nationals holding Tourist Visas with a stay stipulation of 180 days / 90 days and with a multiple entry facility; there should be a gap of at least 2 months between two visits to the country on this visa. In case there is a requirement to visit the country within two months, permission should be sought from the Head of Mission concerned indicating the specific reasons for another visit within a short period.

Pre & Post Hotel Accommodation It is highly recommended that you take a minimum of one pre and post night accommodation with your rail journey.

Personal Travel Insurance At Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC), guest safety and holiday enjoyment are very important. Therefore, travel insurance is essential; indeed it is a condition of booking with us that passengers have adequate travel insurance cover from the country of domicile for injury, illness, death, accident, loss of effects or luggage and holiday cancellation. Guests must supply IRCTC with the name, address and telephone number of the insurers, policy number and the 24-hour medical emergency telephone number. Any pre-existing medical conditions must be declared to the insurer and to us; failure to do so may invalidate your Travel Insurance Policy

Guests are required to check-in at least 1 hour prior to departure at Mumbai and Delhi for pre-boarding formalities. Check-in takes place at a pre assigned venue in Mumbai and Delhi. Final details of the meeting point will be provided in the travel documents and vouchers which will be e-mailed or handed over to you approximately 14 days prior to departure.

Following completion of boarding formalities, you will be escorted to your cabin and assisted with your luggage.

On your final night on board, the Train Manager will assist with disembarkation formalities which include luggage and clearance of extras

DETAILED ITINERARIES

THE HERITAGE OF INDIA

(8 DAYS/7 NIGHTS)

Routing: Mumbai- Ajanta- Udaipur- Jodhpur- Bikaner- Jaipur –Ranthambore – Agra- Delhi

Day 01 Saturday Board the Maharajas’ Express at Mumbai - Onto Ajanta

Welcome aboard the Maharajas' Express.

This afternoon, assemble at 1430 hours at The Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Mumbai and complete your registration and check in formalities at the hotel for the Maharajas’ Express. Following which, you will proceed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. On arrival you will be greeted with a welcome drink and the Police Band playing as you board the Maharajas’ Express.

The Maharajas’ Express departs Mumbai at 1640 hours approximately and travels through the land of the Marathas to Ajanta.

Dinner on board.

Overnight on the Maharajas' Express.

Day 02 Sunday Ajanta

Today you arrive into the World Heritage site of Ajanta. Enjoy an early morning breakfast on board the train at 0630 hours.

Later, following disembarkation at 0740 hours at Pachora station, you will be driven to the World Heritage site of Ajanta Caves famous for its rock cut cave monuments which date back to the 2nd century BC. The drive by road to Ajanta Caves takes approximately 90 mins.

The Ajanta caves consist of 30 caves including an unfinished one, which belong to the period 200 BC to 650 AD. These Buddhist cave temples and monasteries are cut from the rocks and volcanic lava of the Deccan in the forest ravines of the Sahyadri hills and are set in beautiful sylvan surroundings. They were discovered accidentally by a British Captain, John Smith in 1819, on a hunting expedition. The Ajanta caves provide a unique combination of architecture, sculpture and paintings. The caves are mainly known for their exquisite frescoes and sculptures, depicting scenes from life of Buddha.

Return to the Jalgaon station by 1330 hours. This is followed by lunch on board the train as the Maharajas’ Express chugs away for its next destination, Udaipur.

Enjoy a leisurely evening on board with dinner. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

IMPORTANT:

The road journey from station to Ajanta Caves will be approximately 60 kms. The sightseeing of Ajanta Caves takes approximately 2 hours and involves climbing high steps. Please also note that it is mandatory to take off shoes to enter into the caves in view of the religious sanctity of Bu ddhism.

Day 03 Monday Udaipur

This morning you will wake up in the picturesque region of Mewar, one of the most popular and royal states of the Rajputana. Admire the magnificent landscape of the Aravali Hills arriving into Udaipur - the City of Lakes.

Disembark the train at 1000 hours as you begin your visit with a boat ride on Lake Pichola. Following the boat ride visit the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, with its scalloped arches, fret ted balconies, and cupolas. Visit Mor Chowk and see its lavish mosaics of peacocks; Moti Mahal with beautiful mirror work; Chini Mahal covered in ornamental tiles and the spectacular Zenana Mahal where -after visit The Crystal Gallery and the Darbar Hall with an audio guide. Feel like a king as you experience the hospitality at the Satkar Hall of Fateh Prakash Palace reminiscent of the ancient Mewar glory. Feast your taste buds over a vast spread of International and Indian cuisine.

Following lunch return to the train for a relaxed afternoon on board. Or you have the option of enjoying spa facilities in a five star hotel or Light and Sound Show at City Palace.

Day 04 Tuesday Jodhpur

This morning, the Maharajas’ Express, continues her journey into the stronghold of the Marwar region. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board arriving into the Blue City of Jodhpur.

The morning is at leisure on board or you may wish to embark on a village sa fari to the Bishnoi village as an Optional Activity, for which you’ll deboard at Rohet, 40 km before Jodhpur. As the train reaches Jodhpur, you may wish to opt for a Spa at a Five Star hotel or Private Shopping Tour or Visit to Jaswant Thada and Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum.

Return to the train for lunch on-board.

Post lunch visit the magnificent Meherangarh Fort. Admire the intricate latticed windows, elaborately carved panels and elegantly curved porches. Followed by a walking tour of the Old Clock Tower Market. As you reach the Market on Tuk Tuks, get a glimpse of the daily lifestyle of the local residents, passing some of the oldest houses and havelis.

Enjoy an exclusive Cocktail evening with a wide array of sumptuous Marwar Culinary delights served i n the Hanwant Mahal as you admire the cityscape with the illuminated Umaid Bhawan Palace forming the backdrop.

Return to the train and continue your journey to picturesque Bikaner.

Day 05 Wednesday Bikaner

Your journey through the desert continues. As you relish your breakfast on board, enjoy observing the desert scenery, the scattered prosopis cineraria trees; the villagers attired in their bright turbans and the occasional herd of camels breaking the monotony of the desert.

The medieval city of Bikaner was once a major centre in the cross -desert caravan trade. Popularly known as Camel Country, Bikaner has the best riding camels in the world. Bikaner’s forts, palaces and temples are splendid architectural legacy.

Late morning arrive into the desert citadel of Bikaner and relax on board OR you may choose to embark on an optional tour of the city visiting Lalgarh Palace Museum displaying some fascinating exhibits on the royal heritage of Bikaner or visit the famous Deshnok (rat temple).

Return to the train for lunch.

Following lunch, you will disembark by 1400 hours and proceed on a visit to the Junagarh Fort, an unassailable fortress built in 1593 AD by Raja Rai Singh. While the fort is a formidable structure encircled by a moat, its real beauty lies inside. Be overwhelmed by the Diwan-i-Khas, Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Hawa Mahal, Badal Mahal and Anup Mahal. The Fort Museum is fascinating and adorned with ornate decorative costumes and jewellery.

Continue on an experience of a lifetime! Experience the royal pageantry as a convoy of decorated canopied camel carts accompanied by musicians takes you for a Sundowner on the Sand Dunes. Enjoy cocktails,savour traditional mouth watering barbecue delicacies as you enjoy traditional folk arts like the Langaas and Kalbeliyas whose music and dance will mesmerise you.

Later return to the comfort of your train and embark on your onward journey to Jaipur.

Day 06 Thursday Jaipur

Today, you will arrive into the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. Jaipur is truly a pristine jewel in the crown of the desert state of Rajasthan. Built by Raja Jai Singh in the 18th century, Jaipur is renowned for its magnificent palaces, forts and temples.

Disembark at 1000 hrs as your exciting tour of the Pink City be gins with a visit to the Amber Fort situated on a ridge just outside Jaipur city, this fort palace is surrounded by fortified battlements overlooking the Maota Lake. A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartm ents, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory.

Proceed for an exclusive royal experience. Your arrival at the venue will be accompanied by the band and the beating of ‘Nagadas’ (huge Indian drums). You shall also have an opportunity to indulge with the elephants – paint them, feed them or opt for a joy ride. Later, enjoy Cocktail Lunch over sparkling wine at the venue.

Return to the Maharajas’ Express. OR you may choose to participate in the optional activities such as Spa facilities at a five star Hotel OR private shopping tour OR Golf at Rambagh or Visit to City Palace Museum and Jantar Mantar (Observatory)

Day 07 Friday Ranthambore - Fatehpur Sikri

On arrival into Sawai Madhopur, early in the morning, get ready for a safari to the Ranthambore National Park. Originally the private hunting ground of the Maharajas, Ranthambore was declared a National Park in 1973. It is famous for its open sightings of tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard. Wildlife cannot be compared to that of Africa and you are indeed fortunate if you spot the elusive tiger or the shy leopard.

Proceed for an early morning exciting game drive. The safari is carried out in open vehicles and the ride is quite bumpy. One must carry adequate warm clothes for winter months.

Return to the train. Enjoy breakfast as you continue your journey to the fabled deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. Admire the changing landscape as you savour lunch.

On arrival at the quaint station of Fatehpur Sikri, disembark at 1545 hours and proceed on a tour of the fascinating sights comprising of imposing gateways, Halls of Private and Public audience, beautifully sculptured palaces with unique water bodies, reflecting a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. This deserted red sandstone city was built by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar as his capital in the late 16th century. It is now a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then return to the train to enjoy an ‘Indian Evening’!

Day 08 Saturday Agra-Delhi

Today, the train continues on her last leg of the journey towards the magical city of Agra. The jewel of India, home to one of the world’s great architectural wonders - the Taj Mahal. With its spectacular monumental masterpieces and picturesque natural setting, Agra is a legendary city glorified by time.

Early morning, disembark and proceed to the world famous Taj Mahal (one of the Seven Wonders of the World). Also an UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was built by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz. This incomparable marvel is constructed entirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens. Approximately 20,000 of India’s most revered craftsmen were recruited to give shape to this poetry in marble.

Later enjoy a Champagne breakfast gazing at the Taj Mahal, from atop the Taj Khema a table and overlooking Taj. Following breakfast, return to the train.

Enjoy a hearty lunch on board as you continue your journey to Delhi.

Bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express as your ‘The Heritage of India’ journey comes to an end at approximately 1530 hours on arrival into Safdarjung Station.

The royal journey is over, but the memory of which will live on forever!

Saturday Board the Maharajas’ Express in Delhi Day 01

Welcome aboard the Maharajas’ Express.

The epic journey begins at the Delhi Safdarjung Railway station, where on arrival at 2045 hours approximately, complete your registration and check in formalities as you enjoy a welcome drink, with Live Instrumental Music.

Dinner will be served 2130 hours onwards. The Maharajas’ Express departs Delhi at 2200 hours for Jaipur.

Sunday Jaipur Day 02

This morning arrive into Jaipur.

Jaipur is truly a pristine jewel in the crown of the desert state of Rajasthan. Built by Raja Jai Singh in the 18th century, Jaipur is renowned for its magnificent palaces, forts and temples.

After on board breakfast proceed for a visit to the Amber Fort situated on a ridge just outside Jaipur city, this fort palace is surrounded by fortified battlements overlooking the Maota Lake. A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartments, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory.

Proceed for an exclusive royal experience. Your arrival at the venue will be accompanied by the band and the beating of ‘Nagadas’ (huge Indian drums). Monday Ranthambore – Fatehpur Sikri Day 03

This morning arrive into Sawai Madhopur.

On arrival in Sawai Madhopur, early in the morning, get ready for a safari to the Ranthambore National Park. Originally the private hunting ground of the Maharajas, Ranthambore was declared a National Park in 1973. It is famous for its open sightings of tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard. Wildlife cannot be compared to that of Africa and you are indeed fortunate if you spot the elusive tiger or the shy leopard.

Proceed for an early morning exciting game drive. The safari is carried out in open vehicles and the ride is quite bumpy. One must carry adequate warm clothes for winter months.

Return to the train. Enjoy a relaxed breakfast as you continue your journey to the fabled deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. Later enjoy lunch onboard.

On arrival at the quaint station of Fatehpur Sikri, disembark and proceed on a tour of the fascinating sights comprising of imposing gateways, Halls of Private and Public audience, beautifully sculptured palaces with unique water bodies, reflecting a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. This deserted red sandstone city was built by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar as his capital in the late 16th century. It is now a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tuesday Agra - Gwalior Day 04

This morning arrive into Agra - the jewel of India, home to one of the world’s great architectural wonders - the Taj Mahal. With its spectacular monumental masterpieces and picturesque natural setting, Agra is a legendary city glorified by time. Early morning, disembark and proceed to the world famous Taj Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was built by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz. This incomparable marvel is constructed entirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens. Approximately 20,000 of India’s most revered craftsmen were recruited to give shape to this poetry in marble.

Later enjoy a Champagne breakfast gazing at the Taj Mahal, from atop the Taj Khema.

Following breakfast, return to the train. Proceed on a journey to Gwalior through the fascinating Chambal ravines which served as the home to some of India’s most notorious dacoits. Admire the

Arrive into the royal city of Gwalior – a city where many reigning dynasties have left indelible etchings of their rule on all its palaces, temples and monuments. These mementos of a glorious past have been preserved, giving Gwalior a timeless appeal.

After Lunch on Board disembark to experience a traditional welcome and proceed on a tour of the magnificent Gwalior Fort, admiring its enclosed exquisite temples and palaces, the most sp ectacular being the Man Mandir Palace. This palace is a masterpiece of Rajput architecture, embellished with exquisite stone carving and latticework. Some of the other fascinating sights within the 3 km fort enclosure are the 21 colossal Jain sculptures depicting the ‘Tirthankaras’ (one who has achieved freedom from the cycle of rebirth) carved into the rock face and the famous Saas -Bahu (Mother and Daughter-in-law) temples covered with beautiful sculptures of dancing girls and deities.

Your visit continues to the opulent Jai Vilas Palace Museum, a section of which still remains the residence of the royal family of Gwalior. Enjoy exploring the unique exhibits in the museum, the most exquisite being the unique model train made of silver to serve drinks and aperitifs during the Royal banquets in the Durbar Hall. Admire the stupendous Durbar Hall with its c rystal staircase, arched ceiling with stunning gold leaf work supporting two of the world’s largest chandeliers. The legend goes that in order to test the strength of the ceiling to support the chandeliers, several elephants were made to stand on the ceiling.

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast on board as the train continues its journey through some of the most dramatic and picturesque environs towards Khajuraho. Admire the rich landscape as you have lunch on board.

Khajuraho is renowned for its architecture and exquisite sculptures. Built between 950 and 1050 AD in a truly inspired burst of creativity, the temples are superb examples of Indo -Aryan architecture. The highly sensual engravings depict the whole range of human emotions and relationships.

On arrival proceed on a tour of the magnificent temples of Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Explore the Western group which constitutes some of the finest examples of Chandela art at its peak including the Kandariya Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Today as you enjoy breakfast, your journey continues through rich agricultural fields, arriving into the holy city of Varanasi.

One of the oldest living cities in the world, Varanasi (also known as Kashi or Benaras) has a spiritual legacy of over 3000 years. A place of pilgrimage, this holy city is set on the banks of the sacred river Ganges. Varanasi epitomizes the chaos and colour of India. Lively bazaars, exquisite and bright silks, festivals, temples, mosques and palaces – all can be found here.

Following disembarkation, proceed for lunch at Hotel Taj Gateway, en-route visit a Silk Weaving Centre, where you may even shop for some world famous Banarasi silk saris and brocades. After lunch, visit the ancient ruins of Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon expounding the principles of Buddhism. Visit the ruins, stupa and the Ashoka Pillar, whose four back -to-back lions have been adopted as India’s national emblem.

Enjoy a scenic cruise on the river Ganges and witness a magical evening aarti at the ghats of the holy Ganges. The chants of Sanskrit mantras, the clash of cymbals and drums, the scent of flowers, incense and sandalwood and the blazing camphor lamp and many a flamed aartis raised high in the air, makes for an absolute magical evening to remember!!

This morning you will explore the dramatic ruins of Imperialistic Lucknow as you visit Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza and The Residency.

The spectacular Bada Imambara is considered being the largest vaulted apartment in the world comprising of ornamental gateways, corridors and galleries. Experience the imperialistic splendour and mystical elegance of the Nawabs of Awadh as you visit one of their architectural wonders the famous ‘Rumi Darwaza’, a beautifully ornamented gateway and The Residency, started by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daulla and completed by Nawab Sadat Ali for the British resident in 1800. Unravel the history of the Mutiny of 1857 at the Residency as you explore her ruins and visit the main Residency building which houses an interesting Museum displaying the original model of the Residency, old lithographs, photographs, paintings, documents and period-objects.

After the tour you will be transported into the glorious era of the Nawabs of Awadh as you experience traditional hospitality at an exclusive venue. The mesmerising music, exquisite courtesan dance and the Culinary Delights – all combine to bring alive the elegance and charm of the Nawabi era.

After lunch disembark to visit the Jantar Mantar (Observatory). The Jantar Mantar at Jaipur is a collection of 19 astronomical instruments, built in 138 CE by the Rajpur ruler Sawai Jai Singh. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, it has the world’s largest stone sundial.

Day 04 Tuesday Bikaner

Enjoy your journey through the country side with breakfast on board.

Late morning at around 1000 hours, arrive into the desert citadel of Bikaner and relax on board or you may choose to embark on one of the optional tours. Visit the Lalgarh Palace Museum displaying some fascinating exhibits on the royal heritage of Bikaner or another intriguing optional is an excursion to the Karni Mata Temple in Deshnok, popularly known as the “Rat Temple”.

The temple complex has hundreds of rats swarming the courtyard, an integral part of the temple rituals and customs as they are considered very sacred.

Following lunch, disembark and proceed on a visit to the Junagarh Fort, an unassailable fortress built in 1593 AD by Raja Rai Singh. While the fort is a formidable structure encircled by a moat, its real beauty lies inside. Be overwhelmed by the Diwan-i-Khas, Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Hawa Mahal, Badal Mahal and Anup Mahal.

Later experience the royal pageantry as a convoy of decorated canopied camel carts accompanied by musicians takes you for a Sundowner in the Sand Dunes. Enjoy cocktails, savour traditional mouth- watering barbecue delicacies as you enjoy traditional folk arts like the Langaas and Kalbeliyas whose music and dance will mesmerize you.

This morning you will wake up in the picturesque region of Mewar, one of the most popul ar and royal states of the Rajputana. Admire the magnificent landscape of the Aravali Hills arriving into Udaipur - the City of Lakes.

Disembark the train at 1000 hours as you begin your visit with a boat ride on Lake Pichola. Following the boat ride visit the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, with its scalloped arches, fretted balconies, and cupolas. Visit Mor Chowk and see its lavish mosaics of peacocks; Moti Mahal with beautiful mirror work; Chini Mahal covered in ornamental tiles an d the spectacular Zenana Mahal where-after visit The Crystal Gallery and the Darbar Hall with an audio guide. Feel like a king as you experience the hospitality at the Satkar Hall of Fateh Prakash Palace reminiscent of the ancient Mewar glory. Feast your taste buds over a vast spread of Indian cuisine.

Today you arrive into the princely state of the Babi dynasty. Enjoy an early morning breakfast at 0630 hours on board as you arrive into the Sevalia Station. Disembark at 0815 hours and drive down to Balasinor.

Visit the Dinosaur Fossil Park where the fossilized dinosaur remains of at least 13 species and eggs have earned Balasinor the name of India’s Jurassic Park, followed by a village walking tour. Later proceed for the ‘Garden Palace’ for a warm welcome by the royal family.

Following disembarkation and a grand traditional welcome begin your exciting tour of the pink city with a visit to Amber Fort at 0900 hrs. The Amber Fort, set in picturesque and rugged hills is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Mirja Raja Jai Singh, the fort was made in red sand stone and white marble. The rugged forbidding exterior belies an inner paradise with a beautiful fusion of art and architecture. Amber is the classic and romantic fort-palace with a magnificent aura.

A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartments, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory. Return back to the train for a leisurely lunch on board.

Wednesday Day 01 Board the Maharajas’ Express in Delhi - Onto Agra

Welcome aboard the Maharajas' Express.

This evening, assemble at Delhi Safdarjung station at approximately 2045 hours and complete your registration and check in formalities for the Maharajas’ Express, as you enjoy the Live Music, sipping into your Welcome Drink. Dinner on board 2130 hours onwards. The Maharajas’ Express departs at 2200 hours to Agra. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Thursday Day 02 Agra

Arrive into Agra – the Jewel of India.

Early this morning, disembark to visit the world famous Taj Mahal (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this incomparable marvel is constructed en tirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens.

Later, enjoy Champagne breakfast at Taj Khema, a tableland overlooking the magnificent Taj!

Following breakfast, return to the train. Or you may choose to take an optional tour to the Itmad-ud- Daulah or Fatehpur Sikri or Private Shopping Tour.

Return to the train for lunch.

After a leisurely lunch onboard visit the Agra Fort or you may choose from one of the optional activities like spa facilities at a five star hotel or a private shopping tour or visit Fatehpur Sikri or Mohabbat the Taj show.

Please contact the Guest Relations Executive for the optional activities. Return to the comfort of the train and continue your journey to Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore). Breakfast at Taj Khema; Lunch and Dinner on board. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Friday Day 03 Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore) - Jaipur

On arrival into Sawai Madhopur, early in the morning, get ready for an exciting safari to the 'Ranthambore National Park'. Originally the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, Ranthambore was declared a National Park in 1973. The Park is famou s for its open sightings of tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard. The safari cannot be compared to that of Africa and you are indeed fortunate if you spot the elusive tiger or the shy leopard. Proceed for an early morning exciting game drive. The safari is carried out in open vehicles and the ride is quite bumpy. One must carry adequate warm clothes for winter months.

Return to the train. Enjoy a relaxed breakfast onboard and unwind over lunch as your journey continues to Jaipur.

Jaipur, the capital and the largest city of Rajasthan was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber in the 18th century. It is renowned for its magnificent palaces, forts and temples, jewellery and blue pottery. After lunch disembark to visit the Amber Fort. The Amber Fort, set in picturesque and rugged hills is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Mirja Raja Jai Singh, the fort was made in red sand stone and white marble. The rugged forbidding exterior belies an inner paradise with a beautiful fusion of art and architecture. Amber is the classic and romantic fort-palace with a magnificent aura.

A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartments, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory or following arrival in Jaipur, you may choose to participate in one of the optional tours. Enjoy spa facilities at a five star hotel or proceed on a private shopping tour or visit the City Palace Museum and Jantar Mantar.

Proceed for an exclusive royal experience. Your arrival at the venue will be accompanied by the band and the beating of ‘Nagadas’ (huge Indian drums). You shall also have an opportunity to indulge with the elephants – paint them, feed them or opt for a joy ride. Later, enjoy Cocktail dinner over sparkling wine at the venue. Witness native folk dances of Rajasthan over cocktail dinner.

Following dinner, return to the station and board the train for return journey to Delhi. Breakfast

and Lunch onboard; Dinner at an exclusive venue (City Palace or Jai Mahal Palace). Overnight on

the Maharajas’ Express.

Saturday Day 04 Delhi

Breakfast will be served 0715 hours onwards on board as you arrive into Delhi. At 0830 hours Maharajas’ Express arrives into Delhi Safdurjung Railway Station. Disembark and bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express as your journey comes to an end.
