Change Quote

“it is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones who are most responsive to change”

Charles Darwin

See-- -feel - -change

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams Eleanor Roosevelt

The story of the eagle…

Page 5: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

The eagle has the longest life-span of its’ species

Page 6: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

But to reach this age, the eagle must make a hard decision

It can live up to 70 years

Page 7: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

Its’ long and flexible talons can no longer grab prey which serves as food

In its’ 40’s

Page 8: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

Its’ long and sharp beak becomes bent

Page 9: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

Its’ old-aged and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers, become stuck to its’ chest and make it difficult to fly

Page 10: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

Then, the eagle is left with only two options: die or go through a painful process of change

which lasts 150 days.

Page 11: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

The process requires that the eagle fly to a mountain top and sit on its’ nest

Page 12: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

There the eagle knocks its’ beak against a rock until it plucks it out

Page 13: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

After plucking it out, the eagle will wait for a new beak to grow back and then it

will pluck out its’ talons

Page 14: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

When its’ new talons grow back, the eagle starts plucking its’ old-aged

feathers

30 more years

And after five months, the eagle takes its’ famous flight of rebirth and lives

for ...

Page 16: AIBUMA CONFERENCE 2012 EMBARCING THE CHANGING FACE AND PACE IN BUSINESS AND MANAGEMNT Richard L. Lesiyampe, HSC Chief Executive Officer Kenyatta National.

Many times, in order to survive and succeed

we have to start a change process

Why is change needed?

BECOMING THE BEST IS TO EMBRACE CHANGE NOW

To become the best organization, we sometimes need to get rid of old memories, habits and other

past traditions.

Only freed from past burdens, can we take advantage of the valuable outcomes from...

Why the storySt Francis of Assisi – Start by doing what is

necessary, then do what is possible and you will soon find yourself doing the impossible.

If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got.

To survive in the ever competitive business environment we have to behave like the eagle – re engineer ourselves in the way we carry our business. The customers will keep on adjusting the bar of performance from us as service providers.

The Heart of change◦It is not strategy, not systems, not culture. These elements and many others can be very important, but

◦ the core issue at hand is people - what people do, smell, think, feel, values and the outcomes of people behaviour that will determine the success of an organsation.

Heart of change contd..How to Change behavior.

◦ … giving people analysis to influence their thoughts than helping them to see truth to influence their feelings.

◦Both thinking and feeling are essential, and both are found in successful organizations, but the heart of change is in the emotions.

The flow of see-feel-change is more powerful than that of analysis-think-change. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams

The Heart of Change The secret of success is not what you were taught in school, not academic excellence, not a business school degree, not even technical know-how or years of experience but how you deal with our emotions in the work place.
