Regional trainings conducted (no.) 2 4 1 3 50% 75% Farmer's training was conducted in Region 4A, 4B and 5. Training

on plantation establishment of ERDS Region 3 will no longer be

conducted considering that the project was terminated effective

July 2012 as recommended during the ERDS Reg. 3 IHR and as

approved by ETRB. The project was terminated because the

established plantation was not properly maintained and protected

and survival of the outplanted seedlings was less than 10%.

Project 4: Development and management of Bamboo clumps assessed/ - 60 - 60 - 100% In the established 10 hectare pilot plantation established in

pilot bamboo plantation in documented (no.) Brgy. Lewin, Lumban, Laguna, the number of culms per clump ,

Lumban, Laguna (60 /specie) average height and diameter of both kawayan tinik (60) and giant

bamboos (60) were noted/measured. The latest data collection

showed the following:

Kawayan tinik

Ave. no. of culms/clump - 21.83

Ave. diameter - 6.34

Ave. height - 9.50

Giant bamboo

Ave. no. of culms/clump - 6.47

Ave. diameter - 6.42

Ave. height - 8.05

However, during the 2nd assessment conducted in November

2012, a problem was encountered because the area was flooded

for 2 months due to typhoon "Habagat". Many of the giant

bamboos were affected and died unlike kawayan tinik which can

tolerate flooding and winds.

Area identified and approved (no.) 1 1 100% A one hectare area located along Talatuanan Creek, BarangayAquino, Tiaong, Quezon was approved/granted by NPC MainOffice in Quezon City as a planting site.

indigenous and endangered and maintained (no.) are maintained. The establishment of target hedge gardens of

species Bagras and Nato have not yet been done. The Bagras juvenile

shoot-tip cuttings that were subjected to propagation protocol

study prior to out- planting to its corresponding hedge garden have

suffered 100% mortalities. Such experiment was repeated during

the period so with the determination of the rooting survival of Nato ,

hence, its respective hedge garden was also deferred. Hedge

gardens of both species are both expected to be established on

the later part of 1st quarter and early part of 3rd quarter 2013.

Propagation protocols developed 1 2 1 2 100% 100% The ERDB developed three (3) propagation protocols for Nato

(no.) and Bagras species and established the corresponding hedge

gardens, and propagstion protocol of Kalingag with hedge garden

established in 2011. Protocol experiment on Kalingag using

juvenile orthotropic shoot tip cuttings yielded percent rooting

survival that is more than the required minimum rooting standard

(at least 70%) across all the treatments tested. The Bagras

cuttings had 100% mortaility while Nato undergone rooting survival

measurement. Inputting and analysis of data obtained from rooting

survival measurement of Nato are ongoing.

Best Provenance monitored/ 3 3 3 3 100% 100% The project also monitored the status of provenance trial sites in

assessed (no. ) Regions 4A, 7, and 11 and created a pool of relevant information

on all possible newly verified seed sources, clonal seed orchards

established, provenance trials and propagation protocol studies.

As per Bureau management decision, as of 31 September 2012,

this project is terminated but all activities under the project

Lands Sector to prepare a national and regional master plans for

foreshore area management. Among the major factors affecting

foreshore area use and management includes legal issues, unclear

and overlap of policies, conflict with local government and other

agencies, biophysical setting relative to use and potential uses,

social issues (encroachment, habitation, and illegal activities)

environmental (pollution), shortage of funds, personnel and

capabilities in the field, lack of technical support systems

(inventory, records, control maps, surveys) tedious and lengthy

application process, and soci0-cultural factors.

3) Management of Demonstration Areas Demo areas maintained (no.) 8 8 8 8 100% 100% Ongoing activity

on ENR management technologies at studies conducted (no.) Eight demo areas are being maintained at Los Banes

ERDB-LBES Experiment Station (LBES) as follows:

1. Bambusetum - a 6 ha area that contains forty two (42)

bamboo species. It has thirty (30) exotic species,

six (6) endemic and one (1) indigenous species.

2. Rattan genebank - established in 1992, this serve as

ERDB's initial effort to conserve rattan spp. A total of

fifty five (55) species of rattan are maintained in the area.

3. Medicinal genebank - An area containing one

hundred sixty five (165) individuals of trees, herbs,

vines, shrubs with medicinal value are maintained in

the area. Propagation of plants having curative value

is a continuing activity in the area.

4. Agroforestry - 15,400 sq. m. that showcases

sustainable land-use management system for

productive and protective functions. Different agro-

forestry crops being maintained include black pepper,

cassava, pineapple, coffee, rambutan and lanzones.

5. Palmetum - A hedge garden of fifteen (15) palm

species complementing biodiversity conservation

activities and palm production.

6. Dipterocarp clonal/hedge garden - A 3,000 sq. m.

garden or cloned dipterocarp species of dagang,

white lauan, guijo, and apitong. The clonal technology

enhances the production of dipterocarp planting stocks.

7. Butterfly farm - a 4m x 4m area established at the

station intended for the production and conservation

of endemic butterflies.

8. Nursery Area - a nursery for the growing and rearing

of premium quality seedlings. It was established

for continuous propagation of planting materials for

distribution to DENR clientele and partners.

(P15/seedlings) premium forest tree species were produced. Fell short of the

target since several typhoons which hit the country affected the

collection of the planting materials. Likewise, the upgrading of the

clonal facilities also slowed down the production of the indigenous

species. In order to meet the target, procurement of seedlings and

other planting materials was resorted to. A total of 265,000

seedlings were procured for the quarter wherein:

a. 65,000 (catch up plan on backlog for CY 2011)

b. 50,000 (catch up plan to complete the seedling production
