Spring Clean Up for the Waukesha March 11th & 12th the Waukesha was buzzing with activity as board members, staff
and member volunteers came together to give her the spring cleaning she so richly
deserves! Along with the general cleaning, fresh coats of paint were applied to
brighten up new exhibits. Newly donated exhibit vehicles, were brought in, and the
floor plan changed extensively to accommodate those acquisitions. Everyone took a
morning break to enjoy hot coffee and donuts, and Katie and Steve McGreevy
prepared a great lunch to include some delicious homemade sloppy joes, chips and
rice krispy squares which we all gobbled up! Thanks to everyone who came out and
enjoyed the camaraderie and satisfaction of a great couple of days work!
Betty Davis is our museum host on Saturdays and Sundays. She is retired from H & R Block where she
was a manager and a receptionist. She volunteers at City First Church in their office. Betty also
belongs to a quilters group at church. Betty has a passion for cooking and baking. She had a bakery
and catering business in Virginia. We are excited to have her on staff here at the museum.

Members Preview Event
The Vintage Wings and Wheel Museum looks wonderful. Thank you to all of our volunteers who came out to help
make the museum come alive. Our members preview party was a definite success. Everyone had a lovely night
talking, taking in the exciting new exhibits, and enjoying delicious treats (provided by the McGreevy’s, Leng’s, and
Sendelbach’s). The museum launched The Twenty Years and Beyond Capital Campaign project. It is going to be
such an exhilarating year for all of us! It was an honor to have Mr. and Mrs. Eklund at this event. They donated their
beautiful Ford model BB dump truck. If you haven’t renewed your membership for this year please see our website or
Facebook page for the application.

Curtiss Jenny Aircraft Build The Inverted Jenny picture that you see to the left is a United States
postage stamp. It was first issued on May 10, 1918. The image of the
Curtiss JN-4 airplane appears upside-down. This was a printing error that
is now famous and very valuable.
We have some very exciting updates for you regarding our Jenny Project! At this point in time the Jenny team has built the fuselage table. It measures 24’ x 3’ and is perfectly level. The empennage table has been built as well. Team member, Frank Herdzina, has engineered and constructed the wire bending machine. This machine alone will save hundreds of laborious hours. The fuselage metal has been water jetted. The rudder, stabilizer and elevator have been laid out (full scale size) on the empennage table. The metal parts that we did not have drawings for have been drawn using CAD which will eventually allow them to be water jetted. As you know, in every project there will be hiccups. So far the Jenny Project has had one hiccup. Brad Hanson and Frank Herdzina poured over the prints for months while the rest of the team made tables, horses, and modified the museum facilities for the Jenny Project. It took three months to generate a materials list for the airplane. Once the list was completed, Frank ordered most of the materials. After anxiously waiting months for the materials to be delivered, some where severely damaged. Frank had to send most of the wood parts back. At this time the team mem-bers are still waiting for the replacement pieces. Due to the unfortunate events, it has severely slowed the construction process down. Team members of the Jenny Project: Ed Myers, Frank Herdzina, Brad Hanson, Steve Langdon, Wally Falardeau, Dave MacAllister, Chuck Jansen, Buzz McDonald, Bill McKenzie, Glenn McGowan, Tim Gallagher, Sam Darby, and Don Perry. If you would like to be a team member please feel free to stop in at one of their work times.

The Twenty Years & Beyond … a Capital Campaign
Interpreting the Past and Building for the Future
FUNDS RAISED TO DATE:
$58,078.50
Twenty years ago a handful of forward-looking community leaders boldly made the dream of a turn-of-the-
century transportation history museum reality. Today the Poplar Grove Aviation Education Association and the
Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum is soaring into the future with its most bold and exciting undertaking since
those early visionary days…
Your help is needed…
Your help is crucial…
Your help takes us into…
The Next Twenty Years & Beyond…
Interpreting the Past and Building the Future!
The Goals of the Capital Campaign are:
to build a from-scratch… true-to-life… museum quality… flying replica of America’s first mass-produced
“flying machine” - a Curtiss JN-4 Jenny;
to transform the jewel in the Museum crown… the Waukesha Hanger… into a year-round, family-friendly
destination facility;
to provide the means to guarantee scholarship assistance for the next generation of local aviation and
auto enthusiasts and professionals;
to guarantee the financial stability of the Museum for the foreseeable future.
The first leg of this adventure is the inauguration of a $388,000 comprehensive fund drive to provide the
resources necessary to make these life-changing changes possible!
