Fall: September 1 to October 15 - use probe 1Winter: January 1 to February 1 -use probe 2Spring: May 1 to June 1 - use probe 3

Oral Counting has only probe 1 and 2 and you can use either one of those at any time. Oral Reading uses the same probes 1,2,3 at each benchmarking period.

All scores should be entered in the system during the benchmarking periods listed above.

Log into AIMSweb. (Customer ID 30605)

1. Change to correct benchmarking period (Fall, Winter, Spring). 2. Click on the Assess tab at the top, find your student and click on his/her name.3. Assessment type : choose either benchmark or monitor4. Measure : Benchmark will show you all the probes that be done online. 5. Probe : Choose the appropriate probe number and click on launch assessment6. Launch Assessment- the assessment directions will come up and then you can begin the

assessment. The score will be entered once the assessment is finished.

Student responses and errors from online assessments may be found on the Score page under Results Report.

-When the Oral Reading test(s) are completed the median score will be posted after the student’s name. -You may also add information about the student’s reading behaviors, find suggestions for parents and make comments.

1. In the My Classes tab, click on the box in front of the student’s name. 2. Click on the applicable boxes and add comments. 3. Click on Save. 4. A red check mark will appear in the box indicating information has been added. 5. This information can be edited. 6. For Oral Reading Fluency, a comment box will appear containing a qualitative features

checklist, what the parents can do to help checklist, and a teacher comment box.

4

AIMSweb Tip #2Benchmarking Using Paper and Pencil and Entering

ScoresBenchmarking periods are:

Fall: September 1 to October 15 - use probe 1Winter: January 1 to February 1 -use probe 2Spring: May 1 to June 1 - use probe 3

Oral Counting has only probe 1 and 2 and you can use either one of those at any time. Oral Reading uses the same probes 1,2,3 at each benchmarking period.

All scores should be entered in the system during the benchmarking periods listed above.

Finding probes- Benchmarking and Progress Monitoring

1. All probes are easily accessible by grade and test on the RSU #13 Google Drive. 2. To find probes on the AIMSweb site click on the Score tab found on the top. 3. Click on Print Supporting Materials found on the bottom right. You can only print one probe at a time. 4. Find the assessment and probe number and hit print. You can save to your document on your desktop, download folder, etc.

Entering Benchmark or Progress Monitoring Scores-

1. To enter scores for assessments that are either group or individually administered- click the Score tab at the top.

2. Make sure the appropriate benchmark or progress monitor tab is activated. All of your students will appear and you can manually enter all of their scores at the same time- however we found that the scores jump around if you try to enter more than 5 different scores for 5 different assessments.

3. After you enter a score click the tab button to secure the score.4. You must have a schedule set up in order to enter progress monitoring assessment

information.

What you need to enter scoresProbe numberNumber correctNumber of errors (for most types of assessments)

The MCap assessment scores can be entered in 2 ways; just like any other assessment as noted above or enter each item separately. To enter each item separately, click edit and the Item Level Data sheet will come up. Click on the appropriate bubbles. The advantage- you can get a Strength & Weakness report for each student that will enable you to target the type of intervention the student may need.

5

AIMSweb Tip #3Benchmarking vs. Progress Monitoring

Here is some information to clarify the difference between benchmarking and progress monitoring:

Benchmarking assessments are conducted 3 times per year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) on ALL students at their current grade level.

Progress Monitoring assessments are conducted weekly or bi-weekly at the instructional level for students who are at-risk or significantly below grade level. This will help determine if the interventions you are using are effective. If you are not seeing a change, you need to modify your intervention.

** Deciding who to progress monitor:

When reviewing a student’s report, if below the 25th percentile, consider additional assessment data, decide if the student should enter the RTI process, and begin to progress monitor them.

6

AIMSweb Tip #4Viewing a Report of Your Whole Class Score &

Percentile TableGo to AIMSweb and log in.

1. There will be a dropdown box allowing you to choose which benchmarking timeframe you would like to view (Fall, Winter, Spring).

2. Choose the timeframe you wish to view and click refresh. 3. Benchmark Reports- Benchmark reports for each measure enable you to:

View your class of students ranked from the lowest to highest percentile,be aware of alerts for students at risk shown by a black circle with a white exclamation point, indicating that this student has other areas in which they scored below the 25th percentile. A red circle with a white exclamation point indicates that this student has been set up in Manage Monitoring.Provides a quick view of progress monitoring growth (the bar at the far right under goal.)

4. The Print button on the bottom right of the screen enables you to get a Distribution Report of your class (from well-below grade level to well-above grade level.) The percentile score, number correct, and errors appear for each student.

5. A pdf report will be generated and the little square notification box at the top left near your name will highlight in red with a number- telling you the report is available. Click the box for the preview of the pdf and save/print it. Reports remain and can be viewed until they are removed by clicking the X.

6. Clicking on a student enables you to see his/her profile. Clicking on View Profile shows the complete profile of the student and the window changes to the Students Tab.

Based on this table, you can easily identify which students you may consider for RTI

Students in Blue are in the Well Above Average Rang Students in Teal are in the Above Average Range Students in Green are in the Average Range. Students in Yellow are in the Below Average Range. Students in Gold are in the Well Below Average Range

Benchmark reports enable one to view Lexile Reports for the class. Choose OR for the measure and then click the drop down icon where it states Benchmark Comparison and choose Lexile Report. This report provides the Lexile measure and Common Core Stretch Bands.

Benchmark reports also provide the MCap Analysis Report (Group report.) Choose MCap for the measure and then click the drop down icon where it states Benchmark Comparison and choose Strengths and Weaknesses. This report provides an overview of strengths and weaknesses utilizing the Common Core domains for the class. However you will need to enter each item separately under the score tab.

7

AIMSweb Tip #5Viewing Individual Student Reports

1. Log into AIMSweb. 2. Individual Student Report (Bulb Report)- click the Student’s tab (you can also do this

from the Benchmark tab), grade, select the measure, student and make sure it states Benchmark Report. A Performance Summary appears. Clicking on View Report for any measure allows one to see the Bulb Report.

3. The Bulb is your class as a whole via the shape of your bulb4. The solid black line (Target Line)- A student on or above the Target Line has an 80%

chance of passing a state test.5. The white doted line (Median Line)- This line depicts the class’ median (50th percentile). 6. The black dot in the white circle- where your student is in comparison to the rest of the

class.7. Student Performance Summary/Student Profile- Click on Student’s tab, select student

and it will give you a profile of benchmarking and progress monitoring data for all measures. This report will also link to the Bulb report for each measure.

8. In order to get an Individual MCap Analysis Report, click the Students tab, select MCap, and refresh. Next, select the student and change the Benchmark Report to Instructional Planning Report, and click refresh.

8

AIMSweb Tip #6Conducting Survey Level Assessments (SLA)

After students are benchmarked, some will need to be progressed monitored. This should happen at their instructional level, which is not always their grade level. Students who score below the 10th percentile will need a survey level assessment to find their instructional level.

To find the progress monitoring level, you need to conduct a survey level assessment. This consists of giving benchmark probes by descending grade levels until the student is above the 10th percentile.

--Materials needed:1. Progress monitoring probes for each grade below the student’s current grade level. These need to be done paper/pencil mode.2. AIMSweb National Norms table for whichever area you plan to progress monitor: (Tip #12)

Administer a progress monitoring assessment in the area that you wish to progress monitor one grade level below the student’s current grade. Determine if the student’s score is above the 10th percentile for the grade level you just assessed by referring to the Norms Table (Groups Tab-Norms Table-Measure-National Norms). If the score is above the 10th percentile, enter this score in the Manage Monitor tab. If it is below the 10th percentile, keep giving assessments one grade level below the last assessment until the student scores above the 10th percentile for that grade.

9

AIMSweb Tip #7Setting Up a Manage Monitoring Schedule

You must give the student an assessment, either Benchmark or Progress Monitor, in the last two weeks in the area you wish to monitor in order to set up a monitor page for progress monitoring.

--Entering the schedule online:

1. Log into AIMSweb. 2. Select the Monitor tab. 3. Select Student4. On the bottom left of the screen select Manage Monitoring.5. Select Schedule - Determine the area for progress monitoring (ex. MCap.) 6. Expired Schedules - If you click this box, any other progress monitoring schedules you

had set up before, and then deactivated will also be included.7. Monitoring : (shaded whitish) needs to be clicked.8. Baseline Score : Enter in the most recent score (within the last two weeks). If you do not

have a recent score, administer a progress monitoring assessment in the area that you wish to progress monitor. This score should be at the student’s grade level. An off grade level score should not be entered as a baseline score.

9. Monitor Grade : You can monitor on or off grade level. Monitor off grade level if the student’s score is below the 10th percentile.

10. Comparison : National11. Progress : This will appear shaded N/A and the ROI (Rate of Improvement) 0.00. You

will need to go to the next box below to set up the schedule. 12. Date : Set up a 12 week schedule by sliding the date bar until 12 weeks appears. 13. Criterion - click the Show Comparison button and it will enable you to visually see the

percentile for the ROI you set. Set the ROI by sliding the black box with the percentile to the right. The progress tab in the top box will start changing colors. Set the ROI to fall within the Closes the Gap (Green). The ROI will appear next to the progress tab (see below for more information).

14. Intervention : This is the tab next to the monitor tab. There is a pull down menu of suggested interventions & programs (developed by Pearson). However, you may enter your particular intervention strategy by cutting and pasting your intervention from the Tier 1 plan. Filling in this area is not a requirement.

15. Session Length : How many minutes will you provide intervention?16. Frequency : How often will you progress monitor. Progress monitoring should occur

weekly, and you may select the day of the week.17. In order to determine progress towards the goal the system must have at least 4 data

points.18. Assign to : Your email address will appear here, and your name will be added to the list

of teachers for that student.19. Save & Close : Once you have completed filling in the information on the Manage

Monitor page, hit save and close.

10

What does ROI mean- The rate of improvement (ROI) indicates how many additional items the student should score correctly on each weekly progress monitoring assessment. For example, if the ROI is 1.33, then the student should answer an additional 1.33 MCap problems each week.

The ROI will also become your Smart Goal on the Tier 1 intervention form. For example, the SMART goal would read: At the end of 6 weeks, student’s name ROI will be 1.33 more problems correct per week on the MCap assessment.

OR you can write your SMART goal as follows:Indicate the beginning and final score for the student by referring to the initial score and multiplying the ROI by the 6 week range of the intervention. Using the above example, in order to meet their SMART goal the student’s score should improve by 8 points over 6 weeks (1.33 x 6).

When a student meets their goal or is no longer being progress monitored, select Deactivate Schedule at the bottom of the individual student’s Manage Monitor box. Past data will be archived and can be accessed if needed to set a new goal. Choosing Delete will remove all past data.

11

AIMSweb Tip #8How to Progress Monitor for OR, TEL, and TEN Using

the Laptop1. Log into AIMSweb. 2. Click on the Assess tab at the top, find your student and click on his/her name.3. Assessment type : choose either benchmark or monitor4. Measure : Benchmark will show you all the probes that can be done online. If you

choose monitor, you must have a schedule set up under manage monitoring.5. Probe : Choose the appropriate probe number and click on launch assessment6. Launch Assessment- the assessment directions will come up and then you can begin the

assessment. The score will be entered once the assessment is finished.7. Student responses and errors for online assessments may be found on the Score page

under Results Report.

12

AIMSweb Tip #9Decision Rules for Changing Goals and Interventions

--As a student progresses, it may be necessary to change their goals or levels. --When to change a goal/level:--Best practice is to have a minimum of 6 data points before making changes.--When looking at a student’s graph, if you have 4 consecutive data points above the Corrects Aimline (black solid line) you need to consider changing your goal.--If you have 4 consecutive points below the Corrects Aimline, you need to change your intervention. --Compare the trend line (red dashed line) to the goal line (black solid line). --If trend line is steeper than goal line, increase goal. See example below.

--If trend line is flatter than or moving in opposite direction to the goal line, revise instructional program. See example below.

13

--If trend line will intersect and go above goal line, make no change at that time. See example below.

--

14

AIMSweb Tip #10Changing Goals and Progress Monitoring Levels

--When a student is being progress monitored below their grade based on the survey level assessment and their progress monitoring data is consistently in the 25%ile at that SLA grade level, move the student up to the next grade level (never higher than their current classroom grade level).

When moving a student up to higher grade level first:

1. Print and file the current progress monitor schedule for that student. 2. Conduct a SLA using progress monitoring probes using the next higher grade level (Do

not use bench marking probes 1,2, or 3) from their current off-grade progess monitoring level.

3. Select Deactivate Schedule at the bottom of the individual student’s Manage Monitor box. Past data will be archived and can be accessed if needed to set a new goal . Choosing Cancel will remove all past data.

4. Set up a new Manage Monitoring schedule.

15

AIMSweb Tip #11 Discontinuing Progress Monitoring

You would discontinue progress monitoring for only three reasons:

1. If the student has met their goals and after several subsequent probes shows continued progress.

2. If the student moves out of the class or school district. 3. If the student qualifies for Special Ed.

To discontinue progress monitoring, complete the following steps:

1. Log into AIMSweb. 2. Select the student.3. Print all reports for the student’s RTI file4. Click on Manage Monitoring tab.

5. Select the Deactivate schedule.

6. DO NOT CLICK DELETE or all data will be lost!

16

AIMSweb Tip #12Finding and Printing the National Norms Tables

You are able to print national norms for each area assessed in Aimsweb.

1. Log into AIMSweb. 2. Click on the Groups tab. 3. The tab on the left needs to state- Norms Table.4. The next tab will be the area assessed (i.e. OC)5. The last tab gives you a choice of selecting National, District, or School. Selecting

National will enable you in your decision to progress monitor off grade.6. Do NOT click the box next to 1-99%tile.7. Last, click the green refresh button.8. You can print the report by clicking on print at the bottom right of the screen and the pdf

will be displayed in the notification box next to your name.

National Norms remain in effect for a period of several years and do not need to be reprinted each year.
