Saturday Jun 25 Canoe/Kayak on Ipswich RiverA day of canoeing or kayaking on the Ipswich River from a drop-off point on
route 97 to the Willowdale Dam. This is about a 4 hour trip but will usually take
longer at a leisurely pace and with a stop for lunch about 2 hours from the
dam. The voyage takes us through a National Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary,
scenic wetlands, the Bradley Palmer State Park, and Willowdale State Forest.
Many birds, turtles, and frogs can be seen along the way. Swimming is also
available.
We meet at Foote Brothers Canoe and Kayak Rental, which is located at the
Willowdale Dam.
Foote Brothers

equipment.
Foote brothers will transport private canoes or kayaks for $12.
We will have at least 1 grill so bring something to grill for lunch if you wish.

that dries quickly and is appropriate for the weather, windbreaker, water or
other drinks, food, camera, pfd (supplied if you’re renting a canoe or kayak),
coolers, dry bags, and perhaps extra dry cloths.
Foote Brothers opens at 8 am but we should be there earlier. A waiver must be
filled out and can either be filled out that day or downloaded as a pdf file
ahead of time.

Message from the

Jim D'Urso
"The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous,
enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace."
Kate Chopin
Hi Froggies,
Water is getting warmer 54-57 surface temp, 44-51 bottom temps; flounder, stripers,
cod, lobsters, are being found, some nudibranchs still around, and of course
skeleton shrimp, frilled anemones, hermit crabs always around to greet us. Last
Sunday because of wind conditions, favorite spot was Pebble Beach, lots of divers,
some getting certified, others getting photos and some getting dinner, new divers,
seasoned divers, a couple of instructors, NSF, Undersea, Northeast Scuba all
represented. For those who dive only ‘warm water’ I suggest renting or borrowing a
wet suit, do a shallow dive and you wont be disappointed.
This past month three presentations; thank you Matt Ayer for Marine Fisheries
update, Annette Spaulding, our member of the month, for inspiring us with her life
quest and success at finding petroglyphs, and Faith Ortins of DUI for an
educational and entertaining presentation of the fantastic Antarctic with many of us
adding the trip to our bucket list. Someday we just have to walk around thousands
of King and Macaroni penguins!
Thank you Andrea Dec, who joined us this year and graciously lead a Pierce Island
dive and briefly presented the nudibranchs of Pierce Island. She is our diver of the
Month.
Looking forward to the Scuba Show, save the date, July 31st.
keep diving my friends

A week late and a dollar short!
This is going to be my last issue of Air Bubbles - so - I'm late - fire me! he he
The club is looking for folks to continue publishing our monthly newsletter. You
don't have to do it alone - our current cloud-based publishing technique would
easily accommodate multiple contributors. Perhaps you'd like to do the "events"
section, or the "members" section, or be the overall editor coordinating the work of
others. Please reach out to one of the officers if you'd be interested. I can help you
get going with the technical aspects.
Thanks to everybody who contributed photos and sections of the newsletter during
my 1.5 year tenure. Looking forward to reading future issues.
Ellen
