Air Cannon MkVI Date: summer 2014 Client: Personal Project Role: concept design fabrication assembly This piece of pneumatic artillery represents the sixth major design revision and second iteration to be built and fired. It is comprised of a core ordnance fitted with a breech load mechanism, and a carriage which integrates an elevation hand wheel, pressure gauge, and a fully electronic fire control system. A pressure switch in the 1 gallon air reservoir facilitates autonomous refilling of the tank after firing if an air compressor is connected. 3D printing was utilized extensively in the design of the breech and elevation gear. Design was completed in 1 month and construction and assembly were complete within 1 week of receiving parts from McMaster-Carr. Safety was a top priority in this project and all pressure vessels are rated for over 100 psi. A pressure safety valve limits operation to 80 psi.
