Clarity Clarity is a project management database, previously known as, and owned by, Niku until taken over by Computer Associates in 2006.

Clarity project plans link into Microsoft Project (MSP) plans, but also hold other project related information and documentation.

CLC Centralised Load Control also called RLC Regionalised Load Control

Close Out Process dealing with final issues of customer acceptance and seat allocation, up until the flight closing time.

Client  A client is a requesting program or user in a client/server relationship. For example, the user of a web browser is making 'client requests' for pagesfrom servers on the worldwide web.

The browser program, e.g. Internet Explorer, itself is a client in its relationship with the server, which hosts the web files.

Clustering  A computer cluster is a group of tightly coupled computers that work together closely so that in many respects they can be viewed as though theyare a single computer.

The components of a cluster are commonly, but not always, connected to each other through fast local area networks.

Clusters are usually deployed to improve performance and/or availability over that provided by a single computer, while typically being much morecost-effective than single computers of comparable speed or availability.

Ethernet Ethernet is the most widely-installed local area network (LAN) technology. Specified in a standard, IEEE 802.3, Ethernet was originally developed byXerox from an earlier specification called Alohanet (for the Palo Alto Research Center Aloha network) and then developed further by Xerox, DEC,and Intel. An Ethernet LAN typically uses coaxial cable or special grades of twisted pair wires. Ethernet is also used in wireless LANs.

HA High Availability - this means that an application has a requirement to be always available, documented in an SLA.

HA solutions include pairing of servers with one as fallback to the other, or load balancing, or clustering.

    HAC Heathrow Airport Centre

HA-CMP HACMP is IBM's solution for high-availability clusters on the AIX Unix and Linux for IBM System p platforms and stands for High Availability ClusterMultiprocessing. IBM's HACMP product was first shipped in 1991 and is now in its 16th release - HACMP 5.4

HACMP can run on up to 32 computers or nodes, each of which is either actively running an application (active) or waiting to take over shouldanother node fail (passive). Data on file systems can be shared between systems in the cluster.

HBA  A host bus adapter (HBA) is a circuit board and/or integrated circuit adapter that provides input/output (I/O) processing and physical connectivitybetween a server and a storage device. Because the HBA relieves the host microprocessor of both data storage and retrieval tasks, it can improvethe server's performance time. An HBA and its associated disk subsystems are sometimes referred to as a disk channel.

Heartbeat  A 'heartbeat' is a regular signal usually passed between two systems where they are linked in a high availability configuration. Loss of heartbeatindicates the failure of one of the systems and initiates automated business continuity processes on the fallback environment.

Heartbeat is also a LINUX HA product name for HA clustering.

Interline  Anything involving two or more airlines

Inventory Managment This activity is performed by Revenue Management and owns, updates or modifies the inventory of seats for each class of a specific flight.

IP address Internet Protocol address is a unique number that identifies each sender or receiver of information sent across the internet.

It's usually expressed in 4 sets of 'decimal' numbers identifying the host network address, and the local address within that network.

IPARS International Passenger Airline Reservation System.

Issue  A ‘risk’ that has materialised.

Issue Alert  Altea DCS - Process by which an alert is sent to the people/systems when specific actions are required.

A link isapplicable to customers or products across customers.

Note that linking information can also present in the PNR for later DCS processing.

If the DCS Record Booking class is F J C W or Y and this booking class exactly matches the booking class on the ticket, then only Carrier CodeBoardpoint and Offpoint need to agree (ignore flight number and date),

SBY and BKB PNRs (RTZ S/PNRs and P/PNRs)

For these PNRS only consider Carrier Code Boardpoint and Offpoint (ignore flight number, date and selling class checks)

SAL Seat Availability List  - A list of seats previously assignedSAN Storage Area Networks are created in order to allow information to be distributed across a network of computers, a SAN is a high-speed special

network of shared storage devices. SANs, which can be used with either a LAN (local-area network) or WAN (wide-area network), allow thecollective sub network of storage devices to be available to all servers on a network.

On a computer network, it's much more convenient and efficient to store information in one central location rather than on different servers spreadall over the place. And because servers that are connected to the network are simply gateways to the entire SAN sub network, additional storagedevices can be added at any time to increase the capacity of the SAN. Stored data does not reside directly on any of the network’s servers, which

enables server power to be used for applications and releases the network capacity to the end user.SBR Structured Booking Record

UNIX Unix (often upper-case "UNIX," especially as an official trademark) is an operating system that originated at Bell Labs in 1969 as an interactivetime-sharing system. Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie are considered the inventors of Unix. The name was a pun based on an earlier system,Multics (multiplex computer system).

In 1974, Unix became the first operating system written in the C language. Unix has evolved as a kind of large freeware product, with many

extensions and new ideas provided in a variety of versions of Unix by different companies, universities, and individuals.

Partly because it was not a proprietary operating system owned by any one of the leading computer companies and partly because it is written in a
