taxiwaysandparkingaprons,upgradingexistingparkingaprons,relocatingtheexistingfirestationandcontroltower,andinstallinganewinstrumentlandingsystem.TheestimatedcostfortheprojectisS$300million.TheobjectiveoftheupgradingofSeletarAirportistosupporttheaircraftmaintenancerepairandoverhaulbusiness.Thenewfacilitiesprovidedwillimprovetheairport’sattractivenesstoinvestors.The244mSeletarAirportrunwayextensionwillallowlargeaircraft(uptoB757)totakeoffandlandwithfullfuelloadwithoutanypayload.Thecurrentrunwaylengthof1,592mwillbeextendedto1,836mwhencompleted.Withtheexpectedincreaseinaircraftmovements,moreaircraftparkingstandswillbebuiltaccordingly.Ultimatelytherunwaywillalsobeequippedwithinstrumentlandingsysteminonedirectionoftherunway.Whiletherunwayisbeingupgradedtheairportwillremainoperationalthroughout.Tofacilitateworkattherunway,therunwaywillbeclosedduringitsoperationaloff-peakperiodsfrom1830hrsto0830hrsdaily.Existingservicesandroadswillbedivertedtofacilitatetherunwayextension.Inordertoextendtherunway,about300,000m3ofearthwillbebroughtintoback-fillvariouslow-lyingareas.TheSeletarAerospaceParkdevelopmentwilltakeaboutfiveyearstocomplete.Thisprojectwilldemonstratethatwithproperanddiligentplanning,anairportcanbeupgradedwithoutaneedtofullyclosetheairport.
