The first of its kind for the year, the broadcaster hosted MetHealth and Namibia Medical Care (NMC) members to screen staff for life- style ailments including hyperten- sion, cholesterol and diabetes. Workplace wellness is any workplace health-promoon acvity or organizaonal policy designed to support healthy be- haviour in the workplace and to improve health outcomes. The nbc is commied to re- invigorate wellness acvies and smulate dialogue around the topic of health and wellness. Creang an on-site wellness pro- gramme is important because the majority of an employee’s me is spent at the workplace. Many chronic diseases are pre- ventable. According to the Cen- tre for Disease Control (CDC), chronic diseases account for 75 percent of total healthcare costs. They are also the most prevent- able type of diseases. nbc Chief Human Resources Officer, Vezenga Kauraisa stat- ed: “Employees are the most valuable assets to any company and by providing our employees’ with various wellness services will result in a number of bene- fits such as: improved employee wellbeing, job sasfacon, as well as raising retenon rates. The welfare of employees also has a direct impact on the overall success of the Corporaon.” The broadcaster appointed Wellness Champions represent- ing different Departments in its efforts to enhance the accep- tance and success of wellness ac- vies by encouraging employee ownership of the programs in their respecve departments. Namibia New Age Investments in partnership with Namibia Chamber of Commerce and In- dustry (NCCI) – Northern Branch, the Namibian Broadcasng Cor- poraon (nbc) and Confidente Newspaper formed part of key stakeholders who hosted and aended the ‘Northern SME Awards’ gala dinner in Ongwed- iva, Oshana Region recently. The gala dinner was held in honour of small and medium en- terprises that will be recognised for their contribuon towards the economic growth of Namib- ia. The Northern SME Awards Ceremony will be held with the goal to empower, recognize and support small and medium en- terprises who excel in different acvies. The future vision is to naonalize the SME Awards into a domesc brand that adds value and credibility to the SME sector. The awards will also provide a plaorm for SME’s business- es to grow, inspire and act as a driver for local SME’s to pros- per. Further objecves include restoring an unfulfilled sense of encouragement, recognion and appreciaon to individuals in the sector. Promising SME’s will receive trophies, cerficates and cash prizes at the Awards Ceremony scheduled to take place on 01 July 2017. The award categories include Most Innovave SME, Best SME, Employer of the Year as well as Best SME Women of the Year. The nbc delegaon was led by Chief: News and Program- ming Officer Menesia Muinjo who stated: “The nbc is there to develop not only SME’s but also sectors across the board.” She further complimented the idea of the Northern SME Awards which includes naonal recog- nion of SME employers, who excel in different acvies and to compliment the Harambee Prosperity Plan on economic ad- vancement and development. The broadcaster pledged N$70 000 as broadcast sponsor for both radio and television to- wards the awards and now offers a special adversing package to ensure SME’s can afford to ad- verse on the naonal broad- caster at reasonable costs. nbc ENGAGES STAKEHOLDERS AT NORTHERN SME AWARDS CEREMONY GALA DINNER

The Human Resources (HR) De-partment of the Namibian Broad-casting Corporation (nbc) devel-oped various Wellness activities and programs that will be held on a monthly basis for its staff mem-bers.

The first of its kind for the year, the broadcaster hosted MetHealth and Namibia Medical Care (NMC) members to screen staff for life-style ailments including hyperten-sion, cholesterol and diabetes.

Workplace wellness is any workplace health-promotion activity or organizational policy designed to support healthy be-haviour in the workplace and to improve health outcomes.

The nbc is committed to re-invigorate wellness activities and stimulate dialogue around the topic of health and wellness.

Creating an on-site wellness pro-gramme is important because the majority of an employee’s time is spent at the workplace. Many chronic diseases are pre-ventable.
