    Pre-Experiment Installation and Commissioning

    Plans & MilestonesGoals:

⇨ Assemble 11 large area GEM tracker layers in the EEL Clean Room

⇨ Evaluate the assembled GEM layers for noise levels, efficiency and resolution using cosmic.

⇨ Develop and test diagnostic scripts to be used in GEM tracker commissioning.

⇨ Develop, implement and test hardware level background suppression algorithms.

    Milestones:

⇨ 11/2018: Complete the assembly and testing of the first large area GEM layer (LT1).

⇨ 12/2018: Complete the implementation of hardware background suppression scheme. Demonstrate the proper working

of this using at high rate trigger and background conditions using x-ray data.

⇨ 12/2018: Complete diagnostic scripts; produce diagnostic results for LT1, as well as for INFN layers j0, j1, j2 and j3.

⇨ 12/2019: Complete the assembly and testing of 11 Uva GEM layers. It is expected that after the first layer, each

subsequent layer will take approximately 1 month. Testing of the layers with cosmic will be carried out simultaneously.

    Manpower Resources:

⇨ Kondo Gnanvo and Nilanga Liyanage will continue to work with UVa graduate students, Danning Di and Siyu Jian, on

the installation and commissioning of UVa GEM trackers and to participate in the testing of the INFN GEM trackers.

⇨ We have a SBS-GMn-GEMs weekly meeting every Tuesday Morning @ 9:00 am with the wiki page below

⇨ UVa group will be requesting funds for a post-doc to be stationed at JLab to work on the GEM trackers starting 06/2019.
