Akhira Umar Wins State Title in Archery - Paris High School Documents/school page...Umar, who walked...

Congratulations to Paris Middle School student, Akhira Umar, who walked away as a champion at the 9th Annual Kentucky National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Event. Akhira, a sixth grader, placed first in her division com- prised of 382 girls in grades four through six. Akhira’s score at the state event was 282/300. She shot 268/300 at the prior regional event finish- ing second in her division. Her improvement of 14 points be- tween events shows Akhira’s drive and skill in the sport. Wiley Faw, KYNASP Re- gional Coordinator, teaches ar- chery classes as part of Paris’ afterschool Promise Program. Designed to teach International style target archery to students in 4th-12th grades, the NASP core content covers archery his- tory, safety, technique, equip- ment, mental concentration, core strengthening, physical fitness and self-improvement. Students shoot at 80 cm bulls- eye targets placed before an arrow curtain in their gym- nasium. Equipment used is state-of-the art and de- signed to fit every student. Not only did she finish first in her division, she finished in 26th place overall out of 989 participants in grades 4-12. Akhira’s first place finish qualifies her to compete at National Championship and World Championship events. Paris Elementary is proud to an- nounce its upcoming fourteenth annual 100 Man Lunch. The lunch is set for Thursday, April 14, 2011. Father involvement is a key factor in the success of students. The 100 Man Lunch is an event that reinforces and cel- ebrates the many things that Par- is Elementary dads do to have a positive impact on their children. These things are so important: •Visiting the classroom •Having lunch at school Every student will receive a book to take home! 100 Man Lunch Set for April 14 •Attending school meetings •Volunteering time and energy •Reading to children •Praising children •Helping with extra-curricular school activities •Communicating with teachers •Helping with homework If your child attends Paris Elementary, you are invit- ed for lunch on April 14th. Call 987-2166 for details. Paris School District to Unveil New Website on April 18, 2011 Paris Independent Schools is pleased to announce the debut of its new website on April 18, 2011. One of the district’s top priorities is active commu- nication with parents and the community of Paris and Bourbon County. This new website has been designed to be a user-friendly communication tool. The district’s hope is that users will find the design aesthetically pleasing and the content current and informative. Paris Superintendent, Mr. Gary Wise- man, says “I hope the new website will be a useful 21st Century tool for parents and students as a way to increase communication and become a one-stop location for information concerning our district.” The school district encourages users to ac- cess the site often for current news, impor- tant announcements, student photos, athletics news, school forms and classroom information. They are doing their part to help “kick cancer” by sponsoring loved ones in our community who have either succumbed to can- cer (REMEMBER), beat cancer (CELEBRATE), or are cur- rently fighting cancer (FIGHT BACK)! Key Club students are selling spaces for names of those who fit any of the above categories to be printed on the backof their team shirts. Spaces are only $1 each and names that are submitted more than once will be designated by an * for each time submitted. All are welcome to participate in this team event, just stop by the Paris High School office and submit a name. Shirts will then be sold for $10 each. (Watch for pre-or- der form in future editions of The Citizen.) Deadline for sub- mitting a name is April 15, 2011. Congratulations to Nick Pridemore, Paris High School sophomore, on his selection to the “Class of Kentucky” program sponsored by The University of Kentucky. The program, now in its eighth year, recognizes academically talented and community-oriented high school sophomores from throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Class of Kentucky seeks to honor one top sopho- more from each high school in Kentucky. Students are chosen by their respective schools and must demonstrate strong leadership and academic skills. Participants are usually recognized at a UK home football game in the fall and also have the op- portunity to attend a guided tour of campus. The website address will be www.paris.kyschools.us Seniors were able to check out a new Chevy Cruze from Dan Cummins Chevrolet on Friday, March 25, 2011 as part of the Chevy “Drive For Perfection”. Several of Paris High School’s seniors are eligible for the drawing to win the Chevy Cruze based on their attendance. Local Chevy dealers are sponsoring this drive encouraging excellent attendance among senior students. Dan Cummins also brought donuts for seniors!
