The move comes despite multiple Russian appeals to the alliance to avoid provocative steps. “NATO Defense Ministers agreed on an enhanced forward presence in the eastern part of our Alliance,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at the meeting of ministers on Wednesday. Stoltenberg pointed out that the enhanced presence will be “multinational, to make clear that an attack against one Ally is an attack against all Allies, and that the Alliance as a whole will respond.” “It will be rotational and supported by a program of exercises; and it will be complemented by the necessary logistics and infrastructure to support pre-positioning and facilitate rapid reinforcement. Our military planners will provide the advice on the size and composition of our enhanced presence this spring,” Stoltenberg added. The NATO head also said the block must enhance its cyber defense capabilities, as well as be ready to respond to “hybrid warfare,” which includes resilience and civil preparedness. He also praised the Readiness Action Plan adopted at a Wales summit in 2014, which NATO command estimated would cost “several hundred million euros” a year. “We have increased NATO’s presence in the eastern part of the Alliance, with enhanced air policing, maritime patrols and robust exercises,” Stoltenberg said, adding that the alliance had provided Turkey with Patriot batteries, Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) planes, enhanced maritime presence in the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea, and tripled the size of the NATO Response Force to more than 40,000 troops. Russia has long called on NATO to refrain from expanding into Eastern Europe, saying that such moves have the potential to destabilize the security situation in the region. Feb 11, NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels have agreed to form an “enhanced” rotational force in Eastern Europe and step up military exercises there. This created the foundation for mutual reproaches, misunderstanding, and crises in the future,” Russian President Vladimir Putin told Bild last month.“We need to respect each other, each other’s interests, and follow the same rules instead of constantly changing them to suit someone’s interests,” he added.

Russian special forces 'embedded in ISIS,' top official saysFeb 9 Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov claims Russian intelligence has successfully infiltrated Islamic State terror group. Pro-Kremlin Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has claimed spies from his region of Russia are being sent to infiltrate the Islamic State group (ISIS or IS) and assist Moscow in its bombing campaign in Syria.Kadyrov, who has led the North Caucasus region of Chechnya since 2007, made the claims in a preview of a documentary set to air on state television on Wednesday. The documentary claims that "agents from special forces from Chechnya were embedded" in ISIS training camps to collect intelligence and help identify targets for Russian air strikes. Quoting Kadyrov, it said that the "best fighters" from mostly Muslim Chechnya

have managed to create an "intricate agent network directly inside IS," although some have been killed. "We unfortunately have had some losses,"

Kadyrov said in an interview in the documentary. "But they knew where they were going, what they were getting involved in. They went there so we can live peacefully in Chechnya and all over Russia."  C: 8 Dec, Isis has executed five more Russian nationals after accusing them of "spying" in its territories, according to Russian media reports. Last week, a video was released by the militant group showing a man dubbed the Russian "Jihadi John" purportedly executing a "Chechen spy". The executioner has been identified by officials in the North Caucasus as Anatoly Zemlyanka. The Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov reportedly wrote on Instagram that the 28-year-old was an ethnic Russian and wanted by the police. The preview showed Kadyrov at a training camp in Chechnya where heavily-armed men were shooting at targets and completing obstacle courses.  Chechen agents in ISIS "gather information about the structure and numbers of the terrorists and set targets for bombings," the documentary claimed. There was no way to immediately verify Kadyrov's claims. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ruled out a ground operation in Syria.Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on what Kadyrov said.A source in the Chechen leadership told Interfax news agency on Tuesday that "there have been people from Chechnya in the conflict zone on the territory of Syria and Iraq since the emergence of IS." "These consist of self-organised groups of young men who aim to fight the terrorist organisation," the source said, adding that "none of them are members of the Russian armed forces or working for the interior ministry."ISIS fighters in December released a video showing the beheading of an ethnic Chechen man who had made a filmed confession that he worked for Russian special services to spy on ISIS in Syria.Kadyrov at the time conceded that Russian secret services were operating in Syria to "carry out missions to neutralize bandits", but said the execution victim was not working with them. At the same time, some Muslim Chechens and other Russians have gone to Syria to support ISIS jihadists. According to figures released by Russia's FSB security service in December, nearly 2,900 Russians are fighting or have fought with the extremists in Iraq and Syria.

Feb 11, EHRAN (FNA)- As the Internet of Things (IoT) takes over more virtual territory, so do hackers and so can spies. The US intelligence chief has admitted for the first time that smart household devices connected to the internet can increase surveillance opportunities for intelligence agencies."In the future, intelligence services might use the IoT for identification, surveillance, monitoring, location tracking, and targeting for recruitment or to gain access to networks or user credentials," James Clapper, US director of National Intelligence told the Senate, Sputnik reported. What Clapper is basically saying is that smart devices connected to a wireless network in your home, like a baby monitor, a television, a speaker system, a fridge and even a thermostat can be infiltrated by intelligence officers to collect data in real time. Vulnerabilities in the Internet of Things have already been exposed. A recent report, "The Internet of Things: Privacy & Security in a Connected World", warns that wearable technology, web cams, 'smart' home hubs and Internet-connected cameras can be vulnerable to hack attacks.Nick Pollard, of Guidance Software told Computer Business Weekly that cybercriminals see IoT as an easy target.

"As the vast scope of the IoT broadens as well as the security risks associated with the IoT, manufacturers of IoT devices perhaps do not have resources

available to ensure that every loophole or flaw has been covered. The potential therefore exists for successful security breaches to be exploited on a black market."Another report titled "Don't Panic, Making Progress on the 'Going Dark' Debate" takes the debate over the vulnerability of the IoT one step further, suggesting that it "has the potential to drastically change surveillance", offering opportunities for surveillance through an alternative channel if encrypted channels are blocked."The still images, video, and audio captured by these devices may enable real-time intercept and recording with after-the-fact access. Thus an inability to monitor an encrypted channel could be mitigated by the ability to monitor from afar a person through a different channel."So, while privacy campaigners battle against government demands for access to encrypted data — intelligence agencies could just use another channel, provided by the IoT to gather the desired data. The report says the IoT market is forecast to grow into a multitrillion dollar industry within the next decade, incorporating everyday items."Appliances and products ranging from televisions and toasters to bed sheets, light bulbs, cameras, toothbrushes, door locks, cars, watches and other wearables are being packed with sensors and wireless connectivity," the report states."Phillips, GE, Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Tesla, Samsung, and Nike are all working on products with embedded IoT functionality, with sensors ranging from gyroscopes, accelerometers, magnetometers, proximity sensors, microphones, speakers, barometers, infrared sensors, fingerprint readers, and radio frequency antennae with the purpose of sensing, collecting, storing, and analyzing finegrained information about their surrounding environments."The report concludes — and concurs with the statement made by US intelligence chief James Clapper, that:"These forces are on a trajectory towards a future with more opportunities for surveillance."And it appears government agencies are ready to take them.
