Erie ASC-OSCC by Bob Stevenson & Tom McNeilSometimes an article just writes itself. This is one of them. Below are three items where SHC-Erie has been recognized for the contribution of its dedicated staff and the Greater Erie Community recognizes this as seen in the results of the Third Annual Telethon. We are so proud of what our staff does each and every day by providing the best medical services to our kids and their families. We at Aladdin owe them big “thanks.” And not to be considered last, we are announcing a new capital campaign to add another important piece of equipment that will better serve our kids. Please read on.

Congratulations go to Rick Liebel who has been chosen by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter, as the 2016 Outstanding Fundraising Professional. This award not only recognizes Rick for the outstanding job he has done during his time with Shriners Hospitals for Children but also highlights the great work he did with the Maritime Museum and SafeNet. Rick will receive this award at the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon on Tuesday, November 15. Way to go, Rick!

Congratulations and thank you! The 2016 SHC Press Ganey Employee Engagement Survey provided the opportunity for staff to rate our medical center on a number of different variables and the results were outstanding!

To recap some of these results:• OurResponseRate:100%! - SHC (system wide) Response Rate: 85%• OurEngagementScore:4.59(outof5)! - SHC (system wide) Engagement Score: 4.24 (SHC-Erie +0.35) - National Children’s

Healthcare Average: 4.31 (SHC-Erie +0.28) - National Healthcare Average: 4.13 (SHC-Erie +0.46)• OurPercentilewithNationalChildren’sHealthcare:94thPercentile!• OurPercentilewithNationalHealthcare:99thPercentile!

These results are truly impressive and each and all staff members should be proud of this accomplishment as well as the role they played in making our medical center an exceptional place to work and care for kids.

Congratulations on another successful telethon! Our Third Annual Telethon with JEt 25/FOX 66 was on September 13. It was an incredible night. This event again gave us the opportunity to highlight our patients, families, staff, and Shriners. The atmosphere was electric and the audience felt it. We raised over $27,000 in three hours. The phones were ringing nonstop. This total far surpasses the other two telethons. Once the online totals get added in, I feel confident that we may exceed $30,000!

I have included links to some of the highlights from that evening. Thank you all for your support of this mission and giving us the opportunity to care for these children and their families.

Telethon Kick Off: https://youtu.be/M3K5TBXEgG4 The Serafin Family: https://youtu.be/W70m-CSZjiARadiology and EOS Story: https://youtu.be/x6nIkXPBVjk Child Life: https://youtu.be/l8SlwBPvTE0

It’s time for EOS. Ok, what is it? Well, imagine being able to take images of a child’s spine using no more radiation than one would get in one week of natural radiation exposure. EOS is a medical imaging system dedicated to osteoarticular pathologies including hip, knee, spine and the orthopaedic surgeries associated.

The system combines a Noble Prize winning low-dose X-ray detector and proprietary software technology that produces 3D modeling of the patient bones from just two radiographs. EOS enables whole body frontal and lateral images acquired simultaneously in a natural standing or seated positon with very low dose and uncompromised image quality.

In less than 20 seconds, two full-body digital radiographs are taken. From these two images, a 3D bond envelope can then be obtained together with a dataset of precise 3D anatomical information, enabling advanced therapeutic planning and control of orthopedic treatments. This new tool will add to our recently installed low dose radiology equipment and give us the most complete low dose protocols in Northwest Pennsylvania.

We have begun raising funds for this project which is a cost of just over one million dollars. As we move forward we ask all to consider giving a gift, designated for EOS, to SHC-Erie. You’ll be hearing more about EOS in coming months.

Finally, this is a personal note to Aladdin Nobles, families and friends. Marj and I recently completed a wonderful journey across the upper Midwest and Northwest. During a couple days stay in Spokane WA, I took a few minutes to visit our Shrine Hospital. The welcome was warm and it was nice to talk about Shrine kids and the great things going on there. I suggest to each of you, if you happen to be in a place where we have a hospital, make time to stop in and say “hi!” You’ll likely come away with a renewed feeling of just how big this philanthropy really is. What you will find is SHC is really a small world even when parts of it are 2,500 miles away.

As always, if you see a Roadrunner, please say “THANKS!”

A New Season...Even More Activitieson whether a dance floor is needed. Accordingly, many of our events will be, of necessity, limited to Shriners and their spouse or significant others.

Therefore, the New Years Eve Party will be limited to 300 Shriners until the December 3, 2016 deadline. After that we will open it up to outsiders if there are still seats available. Nobles, we all know that Shriners are the worst procrastinators when it comes to making reservations. So, get your reservations in early. Be sure and include your member number on your reservation form. See article on page 1 and ad with reservation form on page 7. The Street Players will be back playing your favorite tunes for your dancing pleasure.

Nobles, we note that we have over 470 members who have not yet paid their 2016 Aladdin Shrine dues. If you are having health or financial issues, you must let us know so we can try to help you. We have no way of knowing if you do not communicate that information to us. Either call the office, our membership director, the recorder or me and we will try to help you. The Divan and Membership Committee are making phone calls so let them know. Aladdin does NOT carry members over to the following year like several Blue Lodges do. Be sure and let the office know what your phone number is since many no longer have a house phone—just a cell phone.

Please remember, your membership dues helps support the Shriners Hospital for Children system. Wouldn’t it be a shame if someday the name “Shriners” is removed from the 22 Shrine Hospitals scattered across North America? Let’s not give up the work that has gone on since 1922 and the over 1 million children the Shriners have helped to lead a more active lifestyle. So...please write that check today and also pay your 2017 dues which have been mailed from Shrine HQ.

Membership is important to all organizations and that includes ours. See the Membership article on page 3 . The time is NOW to start lining up candidates for the December 3 Ceremonial. Thanks for being a Shriner and member of Aladdin Shrine!

Aladdin Shrine Membership - Still Best Value

by Bob Stevenson, Tabloid Chair

by Mark Froehlich, Membership Director

“Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of His name; give to Him glorious praise!” Psalm 66; v. 1, (RSV)

This verse certainly has to be a direct reference to one of our premiere Aladdin groups, the Aladdin Shrine Dixieland Band. Your writer had the distinct pleasure of attending one of their fine concerts presented on September 10 at the Bremen-Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bremen, Ohio. What was supposed to be a concert on the lawn ended up in the sanctuary due to line of rather violent storms moving through the area near concert time. On the positive side, the air conditioned sanctuary was a welcome relief to the hot, humid conditions outside. As Shriners we should all be proud of our performing units and the dedication of the members of these units. Some of the band members had performed the evening before in Indianapolis, IN, at the Great Lakes Shrine Association meeting. (Our own Ill. Sir Bill Amspaugh was elected 2nd Vice President of GLSA. We are proud of you, Bill .)

Giving some thought to the above referenced items, allows us to take a look at “talents.’” The Dixieland Band obviously has a variety of talents, Ill. Sir Bill has talents in the leadership area and we all have talents to some extent. A while ago when your author was teaching an adult church school class, the subject of talents came up. One older lady in the class lamented that she had NO talents, the only thing she could do was dust. I found this most interesting because of my asthma and the risk of a dust induced bronchospasm, I could not do this task.

The Supreme Architect has given each of us talent in one form or another. What is your talent? Perhaps you are a salesperson—use your talent(s) to sell the Shrine to your Blue Lodge Brothers. The Old Testament use of the term “talent” generally referred to units of money. In ancient Palestine and Syria, a talent was equivalent to 3,000 shekels or in Greece, 6,000 drachmas. In modern times we look at talent(s) as a special, often creative or artistic aptitude. The bottom line is this—we are all children of the Supreme Architect and He has given each of us special talents or abilities. Let us use our talents well and wisely.

The following slightly modified prayer by May Hilburn seems appropriate: Supreme Architect, we have turned to You offering ourselves to You for your service. Some have been called to great deeds and their lips have been touched by fire as they gave inspired messages. Others have served in what have appeared to be unimportant places and have often stood alone, unnoticed, unpraised, but they have worked faithfully, doing their work. Brighten the spots where they are and give them great joy for having done all for Your dear sake. Amen. So mote it be.

Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand ~ Kurt VonnegutLet me say that this quote has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Tabloid, Shrine, OSU football or anything else for that matter. I rediscovered it a while back and just liked it. Kurt is a good Hoosier from Indianapolis and I have enjoyed many of his books although some are hard to understand. (Only improvement would have been to be a Hoosier from Fort Wayne, but then you can’t have it all.)

But let’s talk about plaques. Over the last couple of years, we have needed to order new plaques for some of our donors since their current plaques have all the date slots filled. Our supplier saw this need and introduced a new plaque a couple years ago—it is a 10 year plaque.

Many of our donors do not have the space for several plaques, so not all we have presented to them are ever seen. This plaque could answer that issue. It is also a great reminder to the donor that an annual gift for Shriners Hospitals for Children is due for the current year.

Think about it and if you think you might be interested give me a call. As we discover we need to do things differently than in the past, also we need to look at how we say “Thanks” to those who help us help our kids.

If Brother Ben Franklin were alive today his famous quote might be this, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes and membership dues.” Aladdin Shriners pay $89.00 a year. Just think, if Ben Franklin paid $89.00 in annual dues, that amount would be approximately $2,343.79 in today’s dollars.

Of course, dues were not that much in the colonial period. Dues, like everything else, are needed to keep an organization alive and growing. The 2017 Aladdin Shriner dues remain the same as last year—$89.00 and this includes $54.00 which goes to Aladdin. Of the $35.00 remaining, $30.00 is the per capita fee and $5.00 is the hospital levy with both going directly to Shriners International. As you can see, only $54.00 remains with Aladdin Shriners. This is not very much per Noble to operate and maintain a wonderful building and year-round programming. Membership in Aladdin Shriners, as stated before, is one of the best values in all of Freemasonry.

Soon each Noble will be receiving a dues notice from Shriners International. The annual dues notices are sent out by Shriners International, so be on the lookout for an envelope with a Tampa, Florida address. However, remember that the dues are to be returned to Aladdin

Shriners at 1801 Gateway Circle, Grove City, Ohio 43123.As current Nobles are aware, the membership cards are now gold, colored plastic. Once dues

are paid, a 2017 sticker will be sent to you for placement on your membership card. Since a new card will not need to be printed, this process will hopefully be much faster than last year. Dues can still be paid by check, money order, or credit card.

For Nobles who have let their Aladdin membership lapse for non-payment of dues, the restoration fee is now $109.00 and includes payment of 2017 membership dues. For new members, the next Ceremonial is on Saturday, December 3 and time is running short to get a large class of candidates.

Ben Franklin once said, “You may delay, but time will not.” Nobles, we can’t delay. Now is the time to ask our Brother Masons to become Aladdin Shriners and get membership petitions signed and submitted. Let’s show our Brother Masons that we are proud to be Shrine-Masons and proud to be helping our Shrine kids.

Lexington Patient Raises MoneyA 12-year old raises money for Shriners Hospital.

Lexington Shriners Hospital patient, Campbell Kenny, holds fundraiser at Painting with a Twist to celebrate the expert medical care she received which restored her ability to walk. "You can't put a price on the ability to walk," said Tom Kenny, father to Campbell.

Campbell is featured in the above photo along with her mother, Nancy Cox (news anchor on WLEX), father, Tom Kenny (news anchor on WTVQ)

and Tony Lewgood, hospital administrator. The check presentation received local news coverage on WTVQ and WLEX. Below is the story that was featured on WTVQ and links to the full story can also be found below:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 12-year old Lexington girl, who regained her ability to walk at Shriner’s Hospital in Lexington, wanted to give back to help other children at the hospital and raised more than $500 in a fundraiser she organized.

If you’ll allow me to put on my proud father hat for a moment, that 12-year old girl is my daughter, Campbell Kenny. She is an active pre-teen who dances competitively and is on a summer swim team. Earlier this year she gradually lost her ability to walk.

All of the x-rays and MRIs were normal. We visited numerous doctors in a variety of specialties and no one could tell us what was wrong, why it was happening or what we could do about the condition. Before we knew it, she was confined to crutches, a walker and wheelchair. We were desperate for answers. Those answers finally came when our pediatrician referred us to Shriners in Lexington. We not only received a diagnosis, which was Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, but doctors came up with an aggressive treatment plan designed to allow my daughter to regain the ability to walk.

Brotherly Love, Relief and TruthYou have no doubt read or heard about the devastation from the storms in the Louisiana area from the past weeks. We have received information that over 40,000 homes and three Masonic Lodges have been destroyed.

Mike Clevenger P.P. has been in regular contact with a counter part from Acacia Shriners on the desperate need for supplies, contractor work, shelters etc. There has been established in the area a Masonic relief center operating from Acacia Shrine.

There are many helping with efforts to rebuild and assist these worthy and distressed families. Aladdin’s office brought this need to the Board of Directors and it was agreed that we should consider helping with these endeavors of our Masonic/Shrine members.

So, we are asking for anything any Noble or Mason wishes to contribute to this relief effort. Basically, we’re calling for help from our membership in Aladdin land.

We have much to be thankful for here in Ohio and other parts of the country. Our Masonic and Shrine tenants teach us to help out our distressed members and their families. We are asking that if you feel comfortable, send in any monetary amount you wish to Aladdin. We will compile the total collected and send it in one mailing to Acacia Temple for use in restoration efforts. There is no specific amount, so no gift is too small. Make checks out to Aladdin Shrine-Baton Rouge Relief. The temple office will collect checks and we have targeted these offerings being sent prior to the October 17 Stated Meeting. Please keep the families in the Baton Rouge area in your prayers.

Trunk or Treat by Mark Froehlich

What is Trunk-or-Treat? A Trunk-or-Treat event will be part of this year’s Halloween Party on Saturday, October 29 at the Aladdin Shrine. Trunk or

Treat is when a group of folks park their cars with open trunks and pass out candy to young trick-or-treaters. Many will decorate their car trunks in a scary Halloween fashion and wait for the youngsters to come by. Also, many of the participants will bring a lawn chair to relax in while enjoying the various costumes. For those with

pickup trucks—you are welcomed too.It is especially a great time for the real young ones to easily gather up a bagful of candy without

going door to door in a traditional neighborhood. It will save parents and friends from a long night’s walk. It is a fun way for your children and grandchildren to go trick or treating in a safe environment.

We encourage you to park your car, open your trunk and take part in this event. You will just need to arrive at the Aladdin Shrine’s west parking lot by 6:30 p.m. Open up your car trunks, pull out your lawn chairs, and enjoy an evening of trick or treating. Please inform the front office personnel if you plan on passing out candy. You can either bring your own candy or candy can be provided to you.

This is the first year for this event and we are hoping that it will continue to be permanent part of Halloween activities at Aladdin Shrine.

Remember, the adults are expected to dress up too!

A Brand New WheelchairJulia Wallace was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. This means some of her joints do not move normally, with some joints stuck in one position. Often the muscles around the joints are thin, weak, stiff or missing.

When she arrived at the Lexington Shriners Hospital in August for her regularly scheduled appointment, Julia found a brand-new wheelchair was waiting for her. This is Julia’s third wheelchair issued by Shriners Hospitals for Children and one that she expects to have for a long time. She plans to donate her previous wheelchair to a friend with cerebral palsy, saying she wants to share the hope and healing that she has received as a patient at the Lexington Shriners Hospital.

When she was 18 months old, Julia was given her first wheelchair. As Julia struggled to learn how to operate it, her medical team and her mom would use cookies and applesauce as encouragement.

Now 13 years old, Julia beams with excitement when she proudly says her favorite thing about being a patient of the Lexington Shriners Hospital is attending horse camp.

As Julia and her service dog Charlie test out the new wheelchair, she says she’s excited for what the future holds.

Hardin CountyThe Reason to be a Shriner by Ken Rossman

Photography by: The Aladdin Shrine Photography Club

A young Shrine member spoke at the last Aladdin Stated Meeting (Monday 9/19). Aladdin Noble David Merckle told us how the Shriners Hospital in Lexington helped him overcome the damage done to his leg in a riding mower accident and how that experience led him to becoming a Shriner.

One Moment Changes Everything

Our regular meeting was held on Wednesday September 21, 2016 at Veterans Memorial Park Clubhouse with 25 Nobles attending. Noble Rossman opened our meeting with a prayer. Then President Garmon led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Garmon thanked all those who worked our picnic and our Potentate’s visit at the Hardin County Fairgrounds Community Building.

After discussion, a motion was made and carried to make a cash donation to our Shriners Hospital for Children®.

President Garmon named a committee to develop some by-laws for our club. Those named were Don Doll, Wynegar, Ridgeway and Garmon.

We will need a new secretary and second vice president. The committee members are Nobles Heydinger, Lohrber and Brad Bailey.

Later, we will need a new cook. A motion was made and carried to buy a new refrigerator. It was reported that Noble Bob Gilbert is not doing too well. We wish him the very best. We

extend our sympathy to Noble Dave Brutzer in the recent loss of his wife and extend the sympathy to Dave’s entire family.

We gave a big hand to our kitchen crew of Nobles Hinebaugh, Heydinger, Williams, Rice and Garmon.

Noble Rossman closed our meeting with a prayer. We ate our good meal prepared and served by our kitchen crew. Well done, Nobles! Our next

meeting will be October 19, 2016.

Kilee Brookbank was a typical sixteen-year-old, working on school, playing soccer and spending time with friends. But, in a split second, her world would never be the same.

On November 10, 2014, K i lee came home from school, as usual. She kept smelling a very foul smell but couldn’t figure where it was coming from. She decided to light a candle. An explosion blew her to the ground. She

was on fire. Her dog Digger barked at her until she regained consciousness. She ran out of the house as a

second explosion happened. The neighbors put the fire out on Kilee and called 911. Kilee ended up with 45% of her body burned. She spent 38 days at Shriners Hospital for

Children® – Cincinnati. During that time she had multiple surgeries, skin grafts, intense physical therapy and excruciating pain.

Once she was home, she had to learn a whole new normal. She had to relearn to do things like tie her shoes and turn a doorknob. Things most of us take for granted.

Kilee continued intense rehabilitation and had to wear compression garments for more than 7 months. Despite her challenges, her spirit and her will never changed. She faced her journey with determination, strength and a positive attitude.

Kilee wanted to do something for Cincinnati Shriners because of everything they do. That is when she started a foundation called “Kilee Give Back.” All of the money raised goes to the hospital. The first year the foundation raised over $70,000.

She also decided to write a book about what she went through in hopes that it will inspire others and send a message to never give up. The book, Beautiful Scars, (available on Amazon) was written by Kilee and her mother, Lori Highlander.

The book gives both perspectives as they went through this journey together. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Cincinnati Shriners Hospital. Kilee and Lori also donated books to the hospital to be given to families and burn survivors.

Cincinnati Patient Wants to Give Back

Steubenville by O. Wayne FulmerPrior to the meeting, we feasted on fish and chips with cantaloupe for dessert and of course assorted beverages.

The meeting was called to order by President Noble Chuck Vandine and was opened with prayer by Secretary Noble Mark Yocum who filled in for our chaplain. Then we had the pledge to the flag. There were 19 Nobles present.

The Halloween party has been scheduled for Saturday, October 22 and the Christmas party will be held on December 3. The times will follow at a later date.

We will also be holding our Annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, November 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Steubenville Aladdin Land.

We have five ladies going to the LOS Ceremonial on November 19 at Aladdin Shrine in Columbus. Reports were given by the motor patrol, the house and grounds committee and the membership committee.

The meeting was closed at 8:30 p.m. Stay safe and God Bless!

Photography by: Doug Loyer, Marietta TimesOur unit members participated in the Grove City and Jackson Parades in September and will be

in the Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade in October. In addition to our normal elections at our annual meeting in November, some major leadership

roles will change. Stay tuned for details.Unfortunately, the big news for this autumn season is about all the health issues of members

and spouses. Daun Knox is scheduled for heart surgery in October. Phil Clouse and Hermit Sawyer are awaiting heart diagnosis and proposed remedies. Ruth Ann Bull’s hip replacement has been temporairly postponed. Jim McGruder is doing well following completion of a series of radiation treatments for prostate cancer. John Jones had successful prostate removal and is doing well. We wish all of our walking wounded speedy recoveries. Marguerite Lund fell and broke her femur and was in Riverside Hospital. Now she is at Worthing Christian Village for rehab.

To any unaffiliated Shriners reading this article, the Reception Unit is looking for new members. Advanced age is not a barrier—nor a prerequisite. The Reception Unit needs a new directory. If I have already contacted you by phone you already know that we plan an update this fall. If you have not already heard from me, please let me know of any changes or corrections from the information published in the 2013 directory. Timely and effective communication is of the utmost importance, as we all know, so please call me at 614-310-5007. In the meantime, Director Jack Bonn will continue to communicate by email and I will clean up by phone. If needed this will be supplemented by an occasional U.S. mailing when an important event is taking place such as the Pote’s visit last month.

Director Bonn is planning to call for another casual get together at the Oasis Room on Tuesday, October 18. Watch your email for a further announcement.

It was good to see Lowell Robinson at the Aladdin Shrine Car Show/Corn Roast in August—he’s not running at top speed yet, but looking pretty good. Bob Tustin was seen, too, along with Jack Bonn, Jim Paul and others.

As for October birthdays, we’ve got a few—Treasurer and Past Director Mike Johnson, Jack Davis, and Past Potentates Dee Mowry and Tom Colburn. Happy birthday, gentlemen.

Finally, our condolences go to the Jim Hughes family on the death of Jim’s mother, Mrs. Ruth Hughes. She passed away on August 19 at age 92.

Marietta Shrine Noble, Ed Gotse, hands candy to a youngster during the Washington County Fair Parade that kicked off the Labor Day weekend in Marietta.

Our little cars and the Marietta Belle float had 45 Shriners—including our NEMESIS brothers from Parkersburg. We had a picnic lunch at our facility following the parade that was enjoyed by all. The above photograph was the front page feature of the Marrietta Times in their report of the parade. Very good PR for all Shriners!

Our upcoming fall activities will include a football game and basketball tournament in partnership with Marietta College in November.

Marietta Shrine Club President, Joe Stacy, is back with us following a medical procedure. Welcome back, Joe.

Thea Court by Violet Dubros, PHP

Thebes Temple by Sylvia Ann Bast, Queen

A sure sign of the arrival of fall is when the Ohio State Football Team starts its games. It looks to be an exciting year again, Go Bucks! We welcome the crisp fall mornings after all of those sweltering hot summer days. Hopefully, we will have a nice long season of fall this year before we head into winter.

Thea Court is in full swing having had our first court meeting in September and enjoyed our trip to Frankenmuth, Michigan for the annual Great Lakes Unit Meet. This is always a fun time to renew acquaintances from the other courts in the area.

October will be a busy month for Thea Court. Our Licking County Ladies Shrine Social Club is honoring our High Priestess, Lady Ginny Conrad, at a luncheon on Tuesday, October 11 at noon at the Pataskala United Methodist Church. If interested in attending please contact Lady Mary Lou Stakely at 740-407-7633 before October 3.

We will also have our annual fall luncheon honoring our High Priestess, Past High Priestesses and Honorary Aides at the Longaberger Golf Club on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. If you would like to make a reservation for this luncheon, please contact Lady Mary Jo Jones at 614-568-8375 before October 7.

I hope our members will plan to attend our regular Thea Court Meeting on Friday, October 28. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Oasis Room at the Shrine Center and our meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Aladdin Room. If you want to attend the lunch, please make your reservation by contacting Lady Mary Jo Jones at 614-568-8375 before October 26.

If any lady would be interested in becoming a member please contact our High Priestess, Lady Ginny Conrad at 740-763-3875. She will be pleased to tell you all about the wonderful work we are so honored to do for the great philanthropy at the Shrine Hospitals. We also have so much fun and fellowship while doing our work!

Provost by Joey BrooksThe September meeting was well attended. Don Slemmer led those gathered in the invocation

and Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11. The secretary and treasurer were both absent so there were no reports.

Committee reports on membership and transportation were presented by Bob Laird. Dave Peters briefed everyone on the highlights of the U.S. Senior Open Championship detail. We are still waiting on the check for our work at The

Memorial Tournament. Charlie Linek reported everything is set for the Nationwide Web.com detail.Terry McLaughlin presented the changes recommended by the by-laws committee

to the current Provost Unit’s by-laws. Some additional modifications were discussed and noted. The plan is to have the final draft ready for review and vote by the membership at the October meeting.

The sunshine committee report was presented by Bob Albright. It included Charles Dozer, Harold Nairn, and Kelly Raines as still not feeling well. Jim Cooper is currently in the hospital with pneumonia. Bill Dountz was recently hospitalized after having another stroke (Glad to see Bill was able to make the meeting.), and John Rohal was also back with us after having surgery over the summer.

Celebrating birthdays in October are Roderick L. Basye, Thomas J. Colburn, Ted Hall, James M. Liebherr, and Theodore R. Shaeffer.

Hope to see you at the October meeting where we will be bidding farewell to many of our departing snowbirds.

by Mike HammondLicking CountyNobles, now that all of our projects for the year have been completed, we are on the down slope for the rest of the year. The fair director, Larry Hughes, gave us a hearty “well done” at the end of fair week. Thanks go to all who gave their time to make this another successful year.

After the fair, and to show our appreciation to all who help make our

year a success, we held our annual picnic at McPeeks Lodge in Granville.Looking forward, we have the Potentates Visit and installation on December 9. Mark your

calendar for this event. It will be held at the Longaberger Golf Course Club House. Price will be $15 per person with the club picking up the rest. Make sure you let someone know if you are attending and how many will be in your party.

O u r n o m i n a t i n g committee has been set up to nominate the 2017 officers. The names will be read in November and voted on in December. If you are interested in joining the line, let Jim Conrad know soon. As the projects end, the treasurer wants to audit the books which will make the year end audit a lot easier. A report will be given on the audit committee's finding.

That's all for now.

by Roger FausnaughPickawayThe recent meeting was called to order by President Rocky Arledge at 7:00 p.m. Opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance were given by Noble Mick Riley. Another excellent meal, consisting of pork loin, scalloped potatoes, baked beans and rolls, was served by Noble Bob Baranick.

Noble Roger Fausnaugh read the minutes of the July meeting. A motion was made by Noble Bill Dountz and

second by Noble Jeff McClanahan to accept the minutes. The financial report was presented by Noble Jim Willeford and a motion was made by Noble Gregg Shires and second by Noble Carl Hemming to accept the report. All Nobles voted in favor of both.

We received a thank you note from Potentate Ron Leonard for our donations to his and Elaine’s projects.Noble Jim received information from the electric company about a meter for our A/C. It will be

looked into further. The gas company sent information about fixed rates and it was decided not to pursue fixed rates. Jim discussed the insurance cost and Noble Asa Elsea will check.

Noble Carl reported on the annual Shrine KC Golf Outing and indicated the need of sponsors and help. President Rocky reported on the building rental saying Auctioneer Terry Queen has rented it for a coin auction in September. A worksheet is being sent out by Noble Asa about the Pumpkin Show and Noble Carl will take calls for volunteers at 740-474-5019. This is our largest money maker of the year and is a great time to socialize with Nobles.

Noble Mick informed us about Heber Lodge #501’s fundraiser of a consignment sale. After the meeting we had the pleasure of Potentate Ron and his caravan visit us and install three

new Nobles. They were Nobles Jamie Arnold, Todd Fortner, and Chance Sowers. After the ceremony we had the pleasure of having Mary (Markie) May visit us to present her late

husband’s (Noble Roger May) fez to one of our new Noble Chance Sowers. There were a total of 24 Nobles at the meeting. The meeting was closed at 7:45 p.m. by President

Rocky and the closing prayer given by Noble Mick.

Thebes Temple has so many fun things coming up for fall. It is in the air and such a beautiful time of year with all the wonderful colors of the season. We are hoping this will inspire you to share some time with us at our next session on October 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Luther B. Turner Lodge.

Our Annual Games Party is just around the corner on Wednesday, November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be fun and games galore, lunch, bake sale of all types of goodies, a silent auction and a special new event--a purse auction--something different a good time for friendship. Remember the theme our Supreme Queen Cathy Carol Rose has this year: "We Have Fun So The Kids Can Run" and the monies we earn from this event goes to our precious children.

We are anticipating a ceremonial in November and would love it if you would join us for this beautiful ceremony. Will keep you posted and would appreciate your follow up on upcoming tour at the Lexington Hospital. It would be great if you find you have time in your schedule to attend some of the Supreme Queen Visits in October. Look forward to seeing you very soon.

After the big car show on August 21, we had our annual club picnic at Jack and Jane VanGundy’s estate on August 28. Food, weather and the fellowship were great. Thanks go to Jack and Jane for hosting us again.

On September 21 we had an excellent turnout of 54 for the Potentate’s/Go Bucks Visit and a great time was had by everyone. Thanks go to Jane VanGundy for providing the “Buckeyes” and the “Block O” cookies for dessert. The special entertainment was provided by a “cast of characters” and yours truly.

Prior to the visit, members Jack VanGundy and Gary Parks attended car shows on September 18 and won trophies.

Next on the calendar is the “tour of the fall colors in Southern Ohio” in October. Details will be in the club newsletter.

DID YOU KNOW: Did you know the first official White House car was a 1909 White Steamer ordered by President Taft? The first drive-in gas station was opened by Gulf in Pittsburgh in 1913?
