Detective Vincent Hanna is an L.A.P.D officer who has dedicated himself to nabbing McCauley and has seen his personal life crumble among trying to balance his devotion to his job and his loved ones. What follows is a cat and mouse game of some of the finest action set pieces ever put to screen and an all-star blowout of theatrical fireworks with one of the greatest casts at the top of their game. FIGHT CLUB (1999) e first rule of fight club is: do not talk about Fight Club. So I can’t tell you about the story of a depressed insomniac who frequents support groups to which he has no connection and finds himself engaging in bare-knuckle brawls to feel even the silghtest spark of life. I shouldn’t tell you that this gives way to a world of pain, misfortune, and chaos. But I CAN tell you that the second rule of Fight Club is: YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB. LABYRINTH (1986, 35mm) In Jim Henson’s epic fantasy we meet beloved creatures of all sorts, whether your preference is the large and clumsy Ludo, valiant Sir Didymus, duplicitous Hoggle or even “just a worm” as Sarah looks to conquer the impossible labyrinth that Jareth has constructed, with her seemingly ambivalent baby brother at its center. David Bowie has always looked good, but for many of us he will always be the sadistic Goblin King, toying with crystal balls and climbing M.C. Escher stairs. Behold the magic and wonder once again! POLTERGEIST (1982, 35mm) is creative collision between Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Tobe Hooper is the real estate horror film of all time. Starring Craig T. Nelson as a patriarch of a haunted household and featuring some of the creepiest supporting characters of the ‘80s, this is e Great Ghost Story for this and all future generations, hitching up the Indian burial ground angle with a more current medium – spectral jerks come through the TV! POOTIE TANG (2001, 35mm) is brand of absurd comedy is hard to classify, and the unavoidable truth is that it is kind of an incomplete movie. Nevertheless its spirit soars - here we have a superhero taking on an evil corporation and protecting kids from junk culture, who also has been slaying the hearts of women since he was tiny, and speaks his own language that everyone understands! URGH! A MUSIC WAR (1981, 35mm) Co-presented by Clockwork Records. Dramatic. Ridiculous. Manically charged. Churning. Charming. Awkward. Unpredictable. Alchemic. Sweat- soaked. Funny. Goofy. Rad. Simply one of the world’s greatest mixtapes. is legendary 1980 concert film is a Woodstock-ian presentation of the era’s cutting-edge post-punk and synthpop: Devo, Dead Kennedys, X, e Cramps, Oingo Boingo, Gang of Four, e Police, Wall of Voodoo, Pere Ubu, Magazine and more. ANNIE HALL (1977, 35mm) Alvy Singer obsesses over the details of his relationship with Annie Hall, trying to figure out where they went wrong. Woody Allen crafted a perfect dissection of how love evolves, with his trademark neurotic wit providing belly laughs to counterbalance the inevitable heartache we all feel with the familiarity of how lovers turn into strangers. RADIO DAYS (1987, 35mm) Stories of the great radio programs are intertwined with Woody Allen’s childhood memories growing up in Rockaway, New York. Off-beat anecdotes are intertwined with family fights, religious holidays, and first dates, making the voices coming across the airwaves as much a part of his life as family members. SLEEPER (1973, 35mm) In what is maybe his most sublimely silly comedy, Woody Allen stars as Miles Monroe, a health food store owner who wakes up 200 years into the future after being cryogenically frozen without consent. e group that revived him are part of a rebel faction hoping to take down the dictatorial leader, and feel only the off-the-grid Miles can infiltrate the government. e ensuing adventures involve an unwieldy jetpack, inflatable suit, unpractical furniture and of course the Orgasmatron, all leading up to the inevitable kidnapping of a nose. Featuring an all-star cast of Jonathan Price, Ian Holm, Michael Palin, Robert DeNiro and Bob Hoskins, this is the perfect storm of lunacy and social commentary. It’s about flights of fantasy and the nightmare of reality. Terrorist bombings and late night shopping. True Love and creative plumbing. CITY LIGHTS (1931) Prior to this movie, Chaplin’s goal was to make people laugh. But with this movie, the straight-forward slapstick of Chaplin’s earlier two-reelers was balanced with something else. Something that his other feature-films had only hinted at -- genuine emotion. is was Chaplin’s creative breakthrough, his realization that movies could be utilized for more than kicks-to- the-pants and pie fights. THE GOONIES QUOTE-ALONG (1985) Goonies never say die! And because this movie is so awesome, they never have to. Join us for a quoting and adventuring good time as we follow this rag tag group of friends on a journey of lost maps, treacherous traps and hidden treasures. We’ll have a truffle shuffle competition before the show and hand out Baby Ruths and eye patches to everyone who comes so we can all be One-Eyed Willies. is is a cinematic experience you cannot afford to miss - every card-carrying film buff should see this movie in a theater. MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL QUOTE-ALONG (1975) at’s right, one of the greatest and most quotable movies of all time is getting the Action Pack Quote-Along treatment and you can be there for all its sword fighting, coconut clomping glory at the Alamo Drafthouse! As always we’ll have the best lines subtitled karaoke style for your quoting pleasure as well as some of the silliest songs you can hope to sing. We’ll also have swords for everyone, coconut halves for you to bring your imaginary horses to life and a test of will, dexterity and might prior to the show to recruit some brave knights to our cause. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981) For nearly 3,000 years man has searched for the lost Ark of the Covenant. No one knows its secrets and it is protected by forces beyond your imagination. It is desired above all things by both good and evil men. An army with the Ark in its possession would be rendered unstoppable...that is unless someone else finds it first. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones in this Nazi- bashing romp around the globe on a race to find the lost Ark of the Covenant. White-knuckle action and sly humor created a masterpiece of cinema for the ages for all ages. RAGING BULL (1980) A brutal, and brutally honest, look at the life of boxer Jake La Motta, a heavyweight champion who doesn’t let the ring bottle up his fiery rage. Focusing on his life outside of the sport, including the close relationship with his equally hotheaded brother and his tumultuous marriage, Scorsese presents a portrait of a broken man who slowly deteriorates the love around him. Slowly falling from grace, both as a fighter and a man, La Motta’s story is a tragic one, which makes the fact that the film is as equally entertaining as it is gut-wrenching a triumph. Girlie Night: SIXTEEN CANDLES (1985) Beneath the comic exaggerations and sweet romanticism, the ordinary geeks in his films all gave me the same life-changing advice: “Prepare for the worst, but don’t stop hoping for the best.” And no character exemplifies this wisdom better than Samantha Baker in this movie. In celebration of those tiny (yet monumental) teenage triumphs over adversity and awkwardness, join us for Girlie Night, where we’ll pass sex test notes, stare obsessively at Jake Ryan and toast to the wonderful legacy of John Hughes. EVANGELION: 3.0 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO (2012) Shinji Ikari just woke up fourteen years after starting the ird Impact. He hasn’t aged, but everything else has changed. e earth is in ruins. e people he once protected treat him like a prisoner and threaten to kill him if he pilots another Eva. At NERV headquarters, Shinji meets pianist Kaworu. As the boys bond, the organization’s true mission comes into focus. Lost in a labyrinth of deception, Shinji careens toward a mental breakdown that could bring about the end of humanity. For this screening, we will be playing the dubbed version. JORMUNGAND (2014) Jonah is a child soldier and the newest bodyguard for Koko, an international arms dealer with an entourage of hired guns. e cold-blooded kid hates Koko’s line of work, but following her into the darkest corners of the black market might be the only way he can find those responsible for his family’s slaughter. Besides, his employer isn’t like most merchants of death. She uses guile and cutthroat tactics to keep her clients armed to the teeth—all while cultivating her own warped plan for the future of world peace.
