Volume 97 Sept ember 20, 2018 Volume 97 Sept ember 20, 2018 This Sunday is a significant one in the life and future of our church. During worship, you will hear from fellow members introducing the “Heart and Soul Capital Campaign” to renew the worship and mission spaces of St. Simons Presbyterian Church. As you will learn through their sharing and see on the visual displays setup around the church, this campaign will not only make necessary improvements to our campus with regards to safety, accessibility, and existing space limitations, but also (and more importantly) strengthen our common witness to Jesus Christ in Glynn County and beyond for decades to come. I am eager for the congregation to hear more about this worthy endeavor and to catch the dream of all the good things that will happen with your generous support. Please be sure to also RSVP for the “Heart and Soul Celebration Luncheon” catered by Halyard’s happening at 12:30P on Sunday, October 14 – more information below or click here. Also, don’t forget that our 72nd Church Anniversary Weekend is nearly upon us. You will not want to miss meeting and learning from Rev. Dr. Jill Duffield. Click here to learn more about Jill, the weekend, and to RSVP for the Friday, September 28 dinner and keynote. Free childcare is available. As part of our celebration, we will come together for a Day of Service on Saturday. The deadline to sign up for the Day of Service is next Wednesday click here to register and feel free to invite friends, neighbors, coworkers, and/or friendly strangers to come along with you. All ages and skill levels are welcome! Lastly, our Membership Ministry Team is working very, very hard to get as many people as possible signed up to have their photos taken in October for our brand new Pictorial Directory. Many of us have signed up, but there are still many who have not. Please help them out by signing up TODAY or better yet, right now! Click here to schedule your time in 60-seconds or less. Enjoy your newsletter. See you at church. Come as you are. Casual is fine. Peace, Alan

Musical NotesMusical NotesRixie Hendry visited our Youth Ensemble on Sunday afternoon, singing withus and sharing her story of life as a child during World War II in theNetherlands. She and her family often sang at home together around thepiano. It was difficult to do that as the war became more intense in their area. Our youth are experiencing a world with so much more danger on acontinuous basis. How do you summon up a song from a soul breathlessfrom all the disaster and meanness in the world that feels fear, no hope, sadness, and worry? One of the hymns in our Glory to God hymnal (821)addresses this very subject:From the hymnal: In the New York Observer of August 7, 1868, this text wastitle “Always Rejoicing,” and was attributed to “Pauline T.” This may well bewhere the Baptist pastor and musician, Robert Lowry, to whom it is usuallycredited encountered the words that he later published with his tune.

My life flows on in endless song, above earth’s lamentation. I hear the clear, though far-off hymn that hails a new creation.

Through all the tumult and the strife, I hear that music ringing. It finds an echoin my soul. How can I keep from singing?

What though my joys and comforts die? I know my Savior liveth. What thoughthe darkness gather round? Songs in the night he giveth.

The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart, a fountain ever springing! Allthings are mine since I am his! How can I keep from singing?

Refrain: No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I’m clinging.

Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?

The Chancel Choir will be singing Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of MyShepherd Will Supply My Need. It’s in our hymnbook on page 803. I am toldthat this hymn was one of our former music director Glenn Pride’s favorites.Hymns for Sunday: 839 Blessed Assurance and 188 Jesus Loves Me! Withhymns like these, how can you keep from singing?

Love & Gratitude,Rhonda
