Default alarm indication preventions in the system

1 Default alarm indication preventions in the systemAlarm indication preventions for certain alarms have been set by default in RNC. This has been done to reduce the amount of alarm indications that RNC reports to NetAct. The list of alarms below shows the affected alarms that are indication-prevented by default in RNC.

The alarm 7775 is indication prevented in RNC because alarm 3325 informs about WCEL parameter inconsistencies in RNC level. For more information, see the instruc-tions given for alarm 7775 and 3325. Alarm 7799 is an old test alarm for RNC testing purposes which is not set by RNC in any situation anymore.

A critical fault (or faults) has occurred in the base station.

Check the reason for the fault from the supplementary text field ofthe alarm.

The effect of the fault on the functioning of the network elementdepends on the fault description. For more information, see basestation fault descriptions in WCDMA RAN and I-HSPA System Libraries.

InstructionsVerify the configuration of a BTS by checking the commissioning, cablingand correct installation of the units/modules at the BTS. Make sure theenvironment does not cause the fault.

Before a unit/module is replaced at the BTS, the site should be reset torecover from any temporary faults which might have caused themalfunctioning of the unit/module. When an active alarm is a 'Start'alarm, a site reset is required to cancel the alarm. If the site reset ormodule block/unblock does not help, replace the faulty unit/module (seethe source of the alarm and instructions fields of the correspondingalarms).

Below is the list of BTS fault(s) which may have caused this alarm inBTS WN5.0 release. In case of earlier SW release and in case you needmore detailed fault descriptions refer to WCDMA RAN and I-HSPA SystemLibraries. The BTS fault descriptions are also included in BTS SW releasedocumentation. If that does not help, contact your local Nokia SiemensNetworks representative.

A configuration error (two different baseband units functioning) - after an acknowledgement the fault returns again.

Data corruption on the bus - appears once when unsynchronized data is sent by the baseband.INSTRUCTIONS : Check the antenna mapping to the local cells in the commissioning file.

FAULT NAME : Antenna link is downMEANING : Antenna (RP3) link is down: transmitter or receiver drops from synchronization.INSTRUCTIONS : 1. If the alarming module is the Extension System Module (FSM2), restart it. If the alarming module is the System Module (FSM1), restart BTS.

    2. If that does not help, replace the alarming FSM.

FAULT NAME : BB bus reception errorMEANING : The master frame in the received RF BB frame is not in the correct place related to the internally generated master frame pulse. Either the frame has been set into the wrong place (PI delay) or the data itself is in the wrong place.INSTRUCTIONS : 1. If only one FSP in the BTS generates this alarm, the FSP is faulty.

    2. If all FSPs generate this alarm, the FSM is faulty.

    3. Block/unblock the FSM.

    4. If that does not help, replace the faulty module (System Module).

FAULT NAME : BB bus reception error (summing device)MEANING : The master frame in the received baseband bus frame is not in the correct place related to the internally generated master frame pulse. Either the frame has been set into the wrong place (PI delay) or the data itself is in the wrong place.

    7651 BASE STATION OPERATION DEGRADED

INSTRUCTIONS : 1. Check the cables between the System Module and the RF Module.

    2. Replace the unit that causes the alarm (System Module).

FAULT NAME : BB bus transmission errorMEANING : A decoding error has been detected in the baseband internal link. The data packet is lost or the content is corrupted.

This situation is also triggered when the links do not synchronize with each other.INSTRUCTIONS : 1. Check the cables between the Master System Module and RF Module/Extension System Module.

    2. Replace the alarming unit (System Module).

FAULT NAME : BTS Master Clock tuning failureMEANING : The OCXO adjustment area is reaching its limit value. The DAC word value of the OCXO is lower than 205 or greater than 3891 (5 of the total adjustment area). The range for the DAC word is 0 - 4095.INSTRUCTIONS : 1. Start the fast tuning with BTS Site Manager.

    2. Check the reference signal from the FTM.

    3. Reset the site.

    4. If that does not help, replace the system module.

FAULT NAME : BTS RNC/I-HSPA interface signalling link failureMEANING : An AAL2 signalling link failure. It can be caused by a broken WAM. The most common reason for this alarm is a frequently breaking transmission.INSTRUCTIONS : 1. Check the other transmission elements' active alarms (see the Alarms for AXC document).

    2. Check the BTS and RNC transmission settings.

    3. Reset the AXC.

    4. Change the WAM unit.

Note! The BTS and the AXC can be restarted remotely.

FAULT NAME : BTS RNC/I-HSPA interface signalling link failureMEANING : A common NBAP link failure. It can be caused by a transmission network problem. The most common reason for this alarm is a frequently breaking transmission.
