What a surprise how quickly the calendar of February has been tearing out and March is here! The climate has not been stable and the thermometer seems to be up and down like a yo-yo. Are you all prepared for upcoming sports events that will be happening soon? ADSA Board wants to thank Sally Korol for her wonderful contributions to ADSA for seven years. Not enough words can explain that impact she has made towards to our organization and Canada Deaf Sports. We are humbled to recognize her exceptional and dedicated work with ADSA. We wish her all the best as she pursues new adventures. ADSA is looking for two motivated and enthusiastic volunteers to fill in two different positions on the Board of Directors until November 2015. Please contact us at [email protected] to let us know if you are interested, or if you know of anyone who would like to be on the ADSA Board. We would like to congratulate Holly Jamieson who won the gold in Canadian Junior Women’s Curling Championship last month. She was in our Alberta Deaf Women’s Curling and recognized as CDSA Woman Sportsmanship Award. Holly’s team next competition will be at the 2015 World Junior Championships, beginning Feb. 28 in Tallinn, Estonia. Wish Holly and her team all the best luck and bring their medals home. I wanted to extend my gratitude to Roni McCarthy and Kayla Bradford who worked feverishly organizing our exciting events of the High Five Cup Tournament and Mardi Gras After Party. There were plenty of laughter, fun, and excitement during the tournament and the after party. Please congratulation to the winners: High Five Cup Championship goes to Latitude 20.03 High Five Cup 2nd place goes to Volleyball That! High Five Cup 3rd place goes to Connect Society Blue We are excited to share our next sporting event which is the Wallyball Tournament and Spring Fever Party that will be happening in April. The information and flyer about the event will be posted in the Alberta Deaf Newsletter and the registration fee form will be into March Alberta Deaf Sports Association Newsletter. Please feel free to check the ADSA website www.albertadeafsports.ca for more information.

One more thing to add: ASD will host Open House on Thursday March 5, 2015. The time will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and the location will be ASD cafeteria. There will be different displays. Also, ASD is hosting campus tours on Friday March 6th 10:00 am – 4:00 pm and Saturday March 7th 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. This is an opportunity for the community to tour the building before modernization and to get a sneak peek of initial plans. We have many more events coming up. Alberta Deaf Sports Association has been granted another casino fundraiser by Alberta Gaming and we require volunteers to work a shift. This is a very important fundraiser which provides critical funding to enhance Alberta Deaf Sports Association projects and services. Your support is an essential part to this fundraiser and many volunteers are required to make it happen. The casino will be held on Friday, June 26th and Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Casino Yellowhead located in West-end. We are required to fill the position of General Managers, Bankers, Cashiers, Count Room Supervisor, Count Room Staff, and Chip Runners. These keys positions must be filled by volunteers. Signing up for one shift (or two) will make a difference in Alberta Deaf Sports Association’s projects for years to come. There are many shifts to choose from, so please be generous with your time and let us know your availability. Over the two-day period we are required to fill over 40 positions in order to qualify for this casino. Thank you for your willingness to work as a team… It may be even fun! Thank you for responding to this invitation to join our fundraiser. Please send an email to [email protected] indicating whether you would be available for a day shift or night shift. If you have a preference of a position you would like to fill, please indicate this also. You will receive an email with further information that you will need. Thank you, again, for your fantastic show of support. Sincerely, Brenda Hillcox ADSA Casino Chairperson
