ALBUM COVER ANALYSIS

Page 2: Album cover analysis

CHILDREN OF BODOM- HALO OF BLOOD In this album cover we can see a representation of the grim reaper standing over a frozen lake full of bodies, the weather in the photo is snowing, this emphasizes the frozen lake. The lake in this cover could be lake bodom a lake in the south of Finland where the band comes from, the lake is notorious for the murders which could be represented as the bodies under the ice. The lack of colour on this album cover gives the viewer a feel that the environment is cold, unforgiving and unwelcoming, an a overall nebulous feel. The target audience of this album cover is those that would like the Metal genre due to its stereotypical Metal feel because of its relation to the representation of death.

SAVAGE MESSIAH – PLAGUE OF CONSCIOUS

This is the album cover for the band Savage Messiah’s album; Plague of conscience. The cover is composed of some kind of monster or demon holding the earth, the monster has multiple symbols on it including a USSR symbol on a necklace, a Nazi armband and a freemasons badge as well as various other symbols with various meanings, I feel that the reasons behind this is because we demonize anything that we, represented by the earth, demonize anything we do not understand or agree with, it could also mean that all of these fractions are destroying the earth because of all of their beliefs. The album cover is meant to grab attention among the rest of the other albums with darker covers, this is the reason for the lighter area of the cover.

THE CLASH – LONDON CALLINGThis is the cover from the band the clash’s album; London calling. The cover has the bands bassist moments before he smashes his bass guitar, the typography on the cover is very similar to Elvis Presley's debut album including a very similar font and a red and green font colour. the image on the cover of the album represents punk due to the anger and energy of the music represented here by the bassist destroying his bass guitar. The type of photo in this is an action shot due to it being captured in the middle of an action

WINTERSUN- TIME I

This is the cover art for Wintersuns album Time I. there are two different fonts on the cover, one for the album name and one for the logo, the font for the album name has an Asian style to it which fits in to the style of the music due to some of its Asian influences in its instrumental parts. The colours on the cover are a light icy blue and a magenta purple, the purple is at the top of the cover similar to an ethereal light coming from above, the blue gives of a cold feeling compared to the purple, the coldness of the blue also fits in with the lyrics relating to the coldness of winter. The image on the cover is a face fading into a tree.

CARCASS- SURGICAL STEEL This is the cover to the album surgical steel by the band carcass. The photo is of items of surgical equipment in a torus shape, the bone saw has the bands logo on it, this is because of it is the largest item out of the numerous surgical utensils on the album cover. The album has multiple songs referring to surgical equipment including the tracks “316 grade surgical steel” and “Noncompliance to ASTM F 899-12 standard”. The colours of the cover are all gray due to the sterile nature of surgical equipment and hospitals in general which are solid uncaring gray.
