PRACTICAL EXERCISE

OBJECTIVE: This group practical exercise is designed to evaluate your ability to Perform Joint Human Resource Operations.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

1. Blank Paper2. JP 1

INSTRUCTIONS :

a. This group exercise requires you to utilize your experience, knowledge, and expertise of Managing Joint HR Operations and your critical thinking skills to develop solutions to a particular case study (scenario). Read the case study and as a group develop a response to each question or statement describing how you resolve the scenario posed in the case. Write detailed explanations of why you would perform any actions or processes you discuss in your argument and what outcomes you expect from these actions or processes. Ensure that you argue the case to its conclusion. You will be graded on your argument, as well as your conclusion.

b. This practical exercise consists of five group scenarios. You instructor will assign you to a group and assign each group the appropriate scenario.

d. Once your group is finished notify your instructor and wait for further instructions.

e. YOUR GROUP HAS 30 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THIS PRACTICAL EXERCISE.

Scenario #1

MAJ Thomas has served as a Foreign Service Officer (FSO) in the Kuwait Embassy since 2016 and is due to return to the US. His supervisor, LTC Jones, has approached a senior official in the Kuwait government and asked that MAJ Thomas be presented with an award from the Kuwait government in honor of his dedicated service and contributions. Explain why this request should or should not be honored.

Scenario #2

MAJ Thomas has been assigned to an Air Force command as a liaison officer for the past 24 months and has just received orders that he will be transferred in 180 days. The Air Force commander, BG Smith, wants to recommend MAJ Thomas for an MSM for his outstanding service to the Air Force. Is this something that BG Smith can do? Explain your answer.

Scenario #3

MAJ Thomas is currently serving as the S-1 for the 3rd BCT, 1st Armored Division, located at FOB Victory. A platoon of Marines has been assigned to the 3rd BCT, responsible for providing security for access to the FOB. The Marines have provided excellent support to the FOB, resulting in zero casualties for not only their platoon, but the entire FOB, which did come under small arms fire numerous times during their 12 month assignment. The 3rd BCT Commander, COL Jones, is recommending the platoon sergeant for the Bronze Star Medal for his excellent leadership. COL Jones has instructed MAJ Thomas to submit the recommendation for approval. What actions does MAJ Thomas need to take to ensure this process is done correctly?

Scenario #4

MAJ Thomas has just been assigned as the J-1 for a JTF HQ in Qatar. MAJ Thomas’ first task from the combatant command J-1 is to develop a joint manning document for the JTF HQ organization. Describe the steps of the JMD development process that MAJ Thomas should take.

Scenario #5

MAJ Thomas has now received input from all staff sections and services, ensuring that manning and personnel requirements have been met. MAJ Thomas needs to input the information he has received on to the JMD before forwarding to the CJTF for approval. Use the information provided below to complete the attached JMD.
