Pattern
There are several m1 (make 1 stitch) repeats in the pattern. Always make the new stitches in the following manner: pick up the yaen between the stitches and knit it from the back on the loop. This way, you'll avoid holes. Feel free to change the measures if it seems to you that the dress would fit better if you do. You can also try the dress on after slipping the sts to a scrap yarn however this can be difficult with babies! :)
From neck to armpit
CO 66667478 sts. Knit the collar:Row 1 [RS]: k6, p2, k until 8 sts remain in the needle, p2, k6Row 2 [WS]: p6, k until 4 sts remain in the needle, p6Row 3: repeat row 1Row 4: p6, k5[567], place marker, k12[121414], place marker, k20[202224], place marker, k12[121414], place marker, k until 6 sts remain in the needle (should be 5[567]), p6.
Now the markers should be placed symmetrically to mark the raglan seams. The 6 sts in the edges will become the cables and the 2 purled sts their borders.
Next, we will begin both the rahlan increases and the cables. Read both the cabling and raglan increase explanations before you go on!
Cables:
Row 5 [RS]: slip 3 sts to cable needle in fromt of the work, k3, k the 3 sts from the cable needle, p2, work in pattern until 8 sts remain in the needle, p2, slip 3 sts to cable needle behind the work, k3, k the sts from the cable needle.Rows 6, 8, 10[WS]: p6, k2, p until 8 sts remain on the needle,, k2, p6Rows 7, 9 [RS]: k6, p2, work in pattern until 8 sts remain on the needle, p2, k6
Repeat rows 510, i.e. work the cable twists on every 6th row.
Raglan increases:
2 sts are increased on every RS row in every raglan seam.
Every RS row: work the cables as above. K until 1 sts before the marker; m1, k2, m1. Repeat with each
marker.Every WS row: Work the cables as above, otherwise p across.
Continue as set until the work measures 5[666.5] cm / 2[2.52.52.8] inches and join in the round. CO 2 sts in between the cables when you join the work in the round.
From now on, continue the raglan increases on every 2nd row and the cable twists on every 6th row; Purl the new sts between the cables as well as those sts around the cables; elsewhere continue stockinette stitch (knit all sts).
Continue until work measures 6[789] cm / 2.5[2.7533.5] inches. At this point, stop making the raglan increases but continue with the cables as set.
When the work measures 7[8910] cm / 2.75[33.54] inches, slip the sleeve sts, those between the st1 and 2nd marker and 3rd and 4th marker, to scrap yarn to wait. CO 4[668] sts to each armpit and continue knitting in the round. Place markers in the middle of these new sts to mark the sides of the dress.
From armpit to hem
Continue stockinette stitch and cabling in the front as set. Start making increases the sides as follows:
● m1 on both sides on every 2nd row alternately just before and just after the marker (it will be easiest to make increases and cable twists on the same row, since later on you make both on every 6th row)
● When the work measures 5 cm / 2 inches measured from the armpitrt making the increases on every 3rd rowWhen the work measures 15 cm / 6 inches from the armpit, start making the increases on every 6th row.
Continue as set until the work measures 23[262830] cm /9[10.25112] inches and you have worked the row with cable twists.
Finish the hem: Starting after the cable twists, purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row, however knitting the cable sts and purling the sts around the cables on every row. BO loosely.
Sleeves
Slip the sleeve sts to doublepoint needles. Pick up 8[101012] sts evenly from the armpit and knit 1[222]row(s). Decrease 2 sts in the armpit: When you have 2 sts before the midmost of the pickedup sts, slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over, knit 2 together. Knit 4[556] more rows, then finish the sleeve: purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row. BO.
